Summary: A True Masterpiece
Review: I've only seen a few episodes of Six Feet Under because I don't have HBO, and I've just finished viewing the first episode on DVD. I know it's not fair to review anything on the basis of that, but just by itself the premiere hour of this series is nothing less than a work of genius. The script is amazing, the acting is stellar, and the themes are universal. The first hour is filled with eroticism, sorrow, joy, frustration, fear and the vulnerability that comes from being a human on this earth, knowing that one day we all will leave it individually. Astonishing, tremendously moving, and just flat-out devestating. This may possibly be the finest television program ever created.

Summary: Flawless!
Review: This is the most brilliant show on televison of the past decade! Every single one of the characters are so dysfunctional that they actually seem real. The funny thing is that one is able to recognize some part of oneself in almost every character. Doesn't hurt either that both the writing and the acting are top notch. The storylines are skillfully presented spiced up with a dark, very cynical sense of humor. Every episode opens with an ever so ironic death sequence. Great job, HBO! It comes packaged in a neat box set too.

Summary: Weird, Bizarre and...Brilliant
Review: It's hard to describe to those who haven't watched this brilliant show what it's like. Six Feet Under is simply in my opinion, the best hour on television, and one of the best shows ever. Of all time. Brilliantly written, brilliantly told, brilliantly acted, brilliantly brilliant. I've never used brilliant so much in a review before.

First off, it's a show about a very real family, with very real issues to deal with. The family, who have just recently lost the father consists of the mother Ruth (Frances Conroy, superb), two sons Nate and David, and sister Claire (Lauren Amrose, incredibly fascinating). The two brothers run the business prviously owned by the father, a funeral parlor. I just love this show. There is not a single bad actor on the show, in every role. The family is probably one of the most real ever portrayed on TV, the characters being all easily relatable to, I myself can relate to two of them in particular. It's fresh, at times funny, at times sad, at times everything. Every single actor is amazing in their roles from Brenda (Rachel Griffiths) to David to Keith to Ruth to Rico to everybody. And the story lines are just so brilliant, dealing with life and it's purpose, seen throught the eyes of these people who work with death in a funeral home. It's just amazing.

I could rave on and on for hours about how great this show is and how much I love it, but I have to stop sometime. If you haven't yet watched Six Feet Under please do yourself a favor and do. I love it and it's one of my all time favorite shows. Simply, yes, you guessed it, brilliant.

Summary: pure emotional entertainment
Review: What can I say about this series. At first, I thought it was really ODD. Then I got pulled in by the emotions (or lack thereof) that the family exhibited. They are so DIFFERENT, and yet so NORMAL. The characterization of each family member is unbelievable. Some of it is even hard to watch - in the mental illness of one of the characters. But, what can I say except that now I'm officially a fanatic of the show. The only gripe is the price but then, you get what you pay for.

Summary: Question
Review: Before buying, I see that the dvd's are in full screen; the show is now being broadcast this season in widescreen. Is there cropping on the dvd's? Does anyone know if the dvd's are in their original aspect ratios?

Thanks.

Summary: Highly original series
Review: We have been watching this show since it began on HBO, and love every weird, funny, dark, offbeat moment of it. We are purchasing the DVDs to ensure that we have this wonderful show to watch again and again in the future. With little quality programming available, I look forward to pulling this gem out and revisiting the Fishers.

The entire cast and writers should be congratulated for a show that consistently provides a high quality hour of entertainment. Each show highlights the highs and lows of living and trying to find ones place in a family and in the larger world. The use of a death at the beginning of each episode allows the characters to explore their own lives in different terms. I have yet to watch an episode where I was not emotionally touched and in some cases have found myself re-evaluating my life. The themes are honest and apply to everyone.

I look forward to more seasons of this fine show and more episodes on DVD.

Summary: Pretentious in spots but engaging literate program
Review: I really wanted to hate Six Feet Under when I first saw it. Why? I had heard so much about the series prior to its appearence and felt that American Beauty was a bit over rated so I guess I wanted Alan Ball trip and fall on his face. I was immediately capitvated by this well written, engaging HBO series. Although the first season was flawed, on the whole, Ball manages to capture the absurd elements in life that pop out of the ground every day.

The cast and direction helps carry the weaker episodes but, what's most surprising, is the consistency of the writing. Ball manages to capture our obsession with our vanity and the "death culture" that surrounds us. The satire is both subtle and blunt just as it was in his hit film.

Summary: Six feet under - complete first season
Review: Such a highly addictive series!
I am not really a big watcher of series type shows, but this one caught me with the first episode and kept me hooked.
Can't wait for season 2! Even considered ordering HBO just for six feet under ...
It's content can be pretty rough at times (bordering on graphically shocking) BUT once you get past that; and the colorful language, you are left with pure laugh out loud comedy with surprises along the way.

Summary: High Drama-dy
Review: Because it is a roller-coaster of emotions, Six Feet Under is better than 99% of what you have seen on TV. Every episode is at times heartbreaking and hilarious. The weird characters make the show and have a way of making you think you are not so unusual after all. The show is very relavent to modern social issues, and it is more than enough to keep you occupied in between Sopranos seasons!

Summary: Best drama on TV today
Review: The fundamental things--engaging characters, impeccable performances, and witty, literate scripts.

Show revolves around Fisher family who owns and run funeral home. Each episode begins with death and body ends up at the Fisher funeral home. With the death on a background, show peels away the layers from each character revealing more and more of this dysfunctional family.
Ruth, the mother, works at the flower shop and has the relationship with the owner-Nicolai. She is also my favorite character of the show. Her two sons: David, who is a gay man desperately trying to hide it from everyone including himself, and Nate, black sheep of the family with health problems, who is in an intense and often bumpy relationship with Brenda (who also comes with her own baggage). There is also Ruth's daughter who is convinced that she has the worst life imaginable.

Well, there is no way I can fully describe the brilliance of this show. It is not just about death. If it were it would have been extremely depressing, which it's not. The show is actually very funny. Once you start watching it there is no way you will stop, that's how engaging it is.

This show justifies HBO calling itself original and groundbreaking.
