Summary: The Start of the Best Trek Series Ever
Review: Season 1 of Deep Space Nine lays the groundwork for the best Star Trek series ever produced.

DS9 is the "forgotten middle child" of the Trek series. It always sat in the shadow of Next Generation and Voyager and was never hyped by Paramount. yet, we see and feel the effects that started from DS9. Mentioned numerous times in the movies (First Contact (Defiant makes an appearance), Insurrection (So'Na are collaborators with the Dominion), Nemesis (Remans were ground troops during Dominion War) and even in Voyager (B'Ellana losing her mind at the thought of all the Maquis aare dead, and "Prometheus" where teh EMH2 mentions to the Doctor that 'The Romulans have not joined in the war against the Dominion.)

DS9 was always the series to take risks. Its moral plays are the best in Trek. It even took the step of having the enemy destroy much of Starfleet headquarters in the 10-part Series finale!!

The writing, the amazing story arcs, the death of a major character, it's moral plays, the study of spirituality, the invasion of Federation space, the struggle for freedom, the amazing acting, the tremendous guest cast, (which included an Oscar winner), the political machinations, the "dark side" of the Federation, all combine to make one of the best Sci-Fi series of all time.

And yes... DS9 had the BEST space battles ever -- this includes the small screen and the big screen. If you think Star Wars has great space battles, you haven't seen DS9. Whether it be a couple hundred Klingon ships against the sole space station, or a couple thousand Cardassian/Dominion/Breen ships against the Federation/Klingon/Romulan fleet of a few thousand... it's just one sight to behold.... even on the small screen.

I can't wait for the DVD!!!

Summary: It's just ok!!
Review: I watched Deep Space Nine the intire 1st season. And a few episodes into the second season. It just didn't click with me. It was just ok!! My favorite 1st season episode is "Progress" starring Brian Keith. Very good episode. I still don't know if I will buy the intire season, awfully expensive. But, then it's Paramount and Paramount is known to be greedy with Star Trek. Now, why Star Gate SG-1 can be sold for half the price per season, well am I right about Paramount. The best Star Trek in order that I like are , The Next Generation, the Original Star Trek, Voyager, Deep Space Nine and then Enterprise. To each their own. If you like Deep Space Nine then go for it.

Summary: Finally!
Review: While I won't go so far as to call this the best Trek series ever, as it isn't, it definetly is a refreshing change from TNG and the ever boring Voyager. As reruns are impossible to find, I am looking forward to buying this set of DVDs to own, something I wouldn't consider with TNG or Voyager.

Summary: Not your father's STAR TREK.
Review: Even though all the previous 'STAR TREK' series were filmed in color, their stories were, for the most part, BLACK&WHITE..... And then came DS9, a study of Gene Roddenberry's universe in complex shades of gray. With thought provoking episodes like 'The Darkness and the Light', in which Kira is forced to confront the consequences of her actions as a member of the Bajorian resistance (considered a terrorist group by the Cardassians), and 'In the Pale Moonlight', where Sisco finds himself an unwitting accomplice in the assassination of a Romulan Senator and then an active participant in it's cover-up, DS9 will challenge as well as entertain you.

Summary: DS9 - Star Trek's Best Kept Secret
Review: Deep Space Nine is truly the hidden treasure of the Star Trek franchise. Instead of telling the umpteenth story of a ship in space meeeting new aliens with funny noses, DS9 explored the human (and alien) condition living in space. In retrospect, the show gallantly became an archetype for our world. Multiple cultures sharing the same world (or region of space). Throughout the series, alliances change, cultures meld (or fall apart) but through it all, we see the true sense of the human spirit. While I'm sure Gene Roddenberry would have had a problem with the initial premise of the show, the series turned out to showcase a group of characters who exemplified the best of humanity.

If you're looking for great acting and great drama, tune into the episode "DUET". It's a two character story between Major Kira (the amazing and painfully underrated Nana Visitor) and a former Cardassian overlord. Clearly, an early sign of great things to come from this series.

I'd much rather watch reruns of DS9 than new episodes of the ghastly "Enterprise" any day.

Summary: I enjoyed this the most!!!! Happy to see it on DVD finally!
Review: I must say that I am pleased to see that there are others in the universe, like myself, that enjoyed this show or grew to enjoy this show. I was impressed with the pilot episode and thought it had some great potential. Well, in my opinion, it exceeded its potential and became my favorite of all the Trek shows to date. Though, I only became a consistent viewer of the show at the beginning of its fourth season, I intend to get all the seasons of DS9 on DVD and go back to watch episodes from the 2nd and 3rd seasons. I felt that the writing and charachter development did make the show a huge success. As the others have already stated, it also displayed awesome story archs too. Seasons 4-7 were the best in my opinion and I was truly saddened to see the show end in its seventh and final season. I still have hopes that Paramount decides to take this series to the big screen. There is great story telling left for the major charachters of this show in my opinion.

Again, its great to see that there are other DS9 fans out there besides myself that are just as excited as I am about the release of this show on DVD.

Summary: Star Trek Deep Space 9
Review: Of course the series is great im not going to get into that here on this review on the dvd.

The case for season 1 is kind of a let down as opposed to the star trek TNG dvd box sets ( nice silver case with nice box inside housing the episodes ) its a see through but i have to admit it stays shut better than the TNG case and the dvds are much easier to get to. Also something i do not like is that the deep space 9 dvd set did NOT include a booklet i think this is a must for all series dvd box sets. However Deep Space 9 has some very nice graphics on the dvds ( each one has different graphics unlike tng's rather bland mix of colors )
8 out of 10 for box

The image quality is about the same as tng season 7 ( noise becomes apparent from the first episode however around disc 4 and 5 the picture quality has improved a good bit. It is also full frame. I;ll give this dvd a 7 out of 10 for video

The audio on this dvd is simply amazing. You actually feel thier while watching the dvds ( nice 5.1 audio ) audio gets a 9.5 out of 10

The Menus are very nice and well thoughout and much crisper. Trek fans will find the menus simlar to the ones the computer sys uses on the show. 8 out of 10 on menu design.

Last but not least the Extras! This box set gives us a full dvd full of extra's ( disc 6 ) the quality on these are very nice and extra's are always welcomed.

Anyway have to jet now wheather you are a sci-fi fan or a treky or someone looking to pass their time with a series This is a great dvd ( get it when it hits retail for 100 instead of the retial of 150 or you will kick yourself! ) and its worth checking into.

Summary: It is about time.
Review: I maybe in a minority but I think DS9 was the best series of all. I thought the stories were better and the action in space was much more exciting. The final episodes leading up to the finally was the best of all the series.

Summary: Must Buy
Review: DS9 was a landmark achievement in the evolution of Star Trek as much as The Next Generation was. Unfortunately, few if any television or cable station air the reruns. Now we finally have a chance to own every episode for ourselves in beautiful DVD quality.

Summary: It's About Time
Review: It's about time that they bringout The Deep Space Nine series. I have been waiting for so long. And now it is out. We get to watch them all over again. Sisko, Kira, Dax, O'Brian, Bashir, Quark and Odo make their way to the screen once again. As well as several of the bad guys including Gul DuCaut ad not so evil Garak.
