Summary: This might have been the end of John Cleese's career.
Review: "The Strange Case of the End of Civilization As We Know It" is the most awful exercise with which any Python has ever been associated. Nothing funny, nothing witty, nothing satirical, no jabs at authority or culture, and no entertainment value. At least "Fawlty Towers" is ugly, nasty, disspiriting, and a celebration of rudeness for the purpose of being cruel -- which is much nicer than anything one could say about "The Strange Case . . . ." The best non-Python Cleese is "Romance with a Double Bass" with the beautiful (and almost naked) Connie Booth.

Summary: Save your money.
Review: I am a big fan of John Cleese and most anything he has ever done (Monty Python goes without saying). But this skit is absolutely horrible. There was about one funny scene (very short) where he is impersonating Kojak (Telli Savallis, excuse my spelling). I am very sorry I even spent the money on it. I would give it away, but its not even worth the shipping costs. Romance with a double bass was good (3 1/2 stars). Clockwise was also pretty good (3 1/2 stars as well). SORRY JOHN.

Summary: Good Lord
Review: I have seen many silly movies but this one is by far the most silly movie ever seen and made. All you parttime sillybillies though would probably not get the slightest clue of what is going on here. You better not buy this very strange case of the end of civilasation as we know it. Go for som Laurell & Hardy instead. On the other hand. If you really want to get a grap of the essense of English comedy as we know it. "Pay your ticket like a man, man ".

Summary: good film, not too good quality
Review: i've always been a cleese fan. connie booth is great too. so, i figured this would be a great film. well, it was just good. it was very silly arbitrary humor, but it still got a few laughs. so film overall-4 1/2 stars. i gave it 3 star for quality. i dont know about you guys, but when you got the dvd, were there white lines running through it like a vhs would? maybe it was just me or it was the poor video transfer. the voices were muffled and the picture was grainy, but i guess thats the best you could get for a movie over 40 years old. so overall, if you could get a deal on this film, go for it. its pretty funny if you like the python scenario scetches, but if thats not what you're looking for, check out fawlty towers with john cleese and connie booth. its fantastic!

Summary: Yes it's stupid, but...
Review: It is a very stupid movie, but it has moments of great hilarity and Cleese is in great form. The who's the real Watson scene is worth the price of the DVD alone. Holmes:One of you is an imposter! Watson:Good Lord! Is it me?

Summary: Don't Buy This Tape . . .
Review: It is awful--I mean it. It is worse than "How To Irritate People" and before I wasted the (money) on this I thought it would be impossible for Cleese to film something worse than "Irritate". You want to see John and Connie in their finest hours together?? Buy the complete set of "Fawlty Towers." It is their finest work.

Summary: a very silly movie
Review: The quality of the production isn't all that great, the sound is terrible and the movie is rather short but I still found this new "Holmes" movie to be extremely funny! I'm also a big Cleese fan but the man of the hour in this film is Arthur Lowe! His Dr Watson is great! Hey, if you're looking for a great movie, go check out AFI's list of comedies! If you can appreciate a piece for it what it is and its own merits, this is worth the hour! Good God, Holmes! Amazing!
