Summary: The best dramatic series ever aired on television
Review: I believe the review from Scott Lahti characterizes the series admirably. It should remain as an archive for this video if no other does. I read the trilogy that the shows were based upon, and while they are wonderful novels, I would add that the writing talents of the handful of scriptwriters for the series even improved upon the story and characters. David Fanshawe's music is the work of a genius. The cinematography is also superb. All of the people I know who have watched this series have agreed Flambards left a lasting, deep impression upon them.

Summary: Very special and unforgettable
Review: I can do little more than reiterate what has already been said. I'm just delighted that I'm not the only one who has such fond memories of "Flambards". I was mesmerized the first time I saw the series 18-20 years ago, and watched it just as eagerly 8 or 9 years ago on A & E (at 7 a.m. no less!) It's a great series if you love the English countryside and brave, intelligent heroines who aren't overly romanticized and glamorous to be believable. Buy it and enjoy it during cold winter days--it's perfect hibernation viewing!

Summary: Wow what a series
Review: I first saw this series many years ago on the ABC(Australia). I had read all the books and loved the series as much as the books. I am so glad that other people also love Flambards as most of my friends look at me as if I was stupid when I mention it.I am so happy that it is now on video and I can watch it again and again. There is a book written by Christina McKenna called "Why didn't they tell the horses". This book is all about the filming of Flambards and about her experience learning to ride for the series.

Summary: Flambards - PBS Does it Again!
Review: I had never heard of Flambards before 1 week ago but love anything done by PBS. This series, however, is a five-star achievement - costuming, scenery, historical value and top-rate acting by a superb cast. With so much "wasted celluloid" being done these days, Flambards is fresh and hopeful.

Summary: a marvelous masterpiece
Review: I had the pleasure of ordering Flambards several years ago and recently viewed it on DVD. I must say that the story is so wonderfully woven with fine characters and actors to compliment each personality of the many characters in this film. Kristine Mckenna was just terrific in her characterization of Christina Russel. She portrayed a gentle yet compassion driven young woman who was trying to find her way in life and ends up in the chaotic household of the Russell family, her first cousins. How she manages to hold her sanity in her dealings with her Uncle Russell and her cousins Mark and her beloved William is a miracle in itself. The characters portayed as the household staff were indeed a funny addition to a wonderful, zaney plot. I just loved this film and highly recommend it to anyone who has a passion for horses, England and wonderful storytelling.

Summary: One of the best books I have ever read.
Review: I read the trilogy by K.M. Peyton several years ago when I was newly a teenager. I found it fascinating then and I reread it several years ago only to realize it was much better the second time. I will never forget the fascinating adventures and faux pas of Christina. END

Summary: Hauntingly Addictive
Review: I stumbled on the Flambard's videos at a small public library in Wisconsin. At first I thought the filming and screen style were incredibly dated and almost laughable, but the story line was captivating. Each episode compelled me to watch the following episode. The only thing that disappointed me was that the ending seemed somewhat abrupt and left me hanging as to the future of some of the characters. In an effort to complete the story in my mind I found a used copy of the author's final novel (which extended beyond the film). However, the story line took a negative turn that left me with a feeling of emptiness. I highly recommend the film series, but for your own sake... just leave it at that.

Summary: Sorry to disagree, but this series is extremely dated.
Review: I think it's great when people find a series they love, unfortunately, I bought this series on the recommendation of people's reviews on this site, and found it very weak - I too love a good British dramatic series but this one falls far short of the mark. The music is horrendous, David Fanshawe should be ashamed for writing such a dated soundtrack! The music is a cross between a silent film of the twenties and a 50's sci-fi movie - if you could just turn the music track off the series would be 100% improved. The acting is very broad and at times laughable, I can't comment on the story as I haven't gotten past the first two episodes! I think unfortunately many people's reviews are based on fond memories when it was first aired, but this series is extremely dated, and I think many people will be extremely dissapointed with it, as I was.

Summary: UNFORGETTABLE!!!
Review: I was first introduced to this stunning series 8 or 9 years ago, and although I haven't seen it for 4 years, I can"t forget it...I have been searching for the complete VHS set with not much luck. Also, does anybody know if there is a soundtrack available? The music is haunting.
