Summary: Good DVD, Let down in some places...
Review: This was my first ECW DVD ever, and, I thought it was good for a first see. It was much better than Extreme Evolution, IMO. Well, let's run down the matches.

---------------
Chris Jericho vs 2 Cold Scorpio vs Pitbull #2 vs Shane Douglas

One of the longest matches on the DVD. For me, it was a bit of a snooze-fest, and it's funny how Jericho looked so green. He only got a few high flying spots off, and, he was eliminated. Gotta give credit to Francine for that table bump.

Rating: 3/5

---------------
Rob Van Dam vs Bam Bam Bigelow

My FAVORITE match on the tape. A great start for the match, and ALOT of insane bumps to the outside. I usually just pop this DVD to watch this match. A classic.

Rating: 5/5
---------------
Sabu vs The Sandman

I don't know about everyone else, but I thought this match was a bit sloppy, and it looked like both Men were being pretty stiff. Like I said, it was a bit sloppy, but a nice ECW-Style match.

Rating: 4/5
---------------
Ian Rotten vs Axl Rotten

What a horrible match. I don't think this deserves a review.. you could clearly see them blading themselves. Just awful. Worst match on the DVD.

Rating: 1/5
---------------
Jerry Lynn vs Tajiri vs Super Crazy

I didn't watch this match until after a long while, but, I later kicked myself for doing so. Nice high flying/technical match, that lasts a good while. Steve Corino is hilarious on the outside..

Rating: 4/5
---------------
Dean Malenko vs Eddie Guerrero

Good match, but, this was pure a submission match, lots of slow submission holds, but, the fans were totally into it the whole time, as this was Dean and Eddie's last match in ECW before heading off to Turner Land. The end gave me chills.

Rating: 3/5
---------------
Psichosis vs Rey Misterio Jr.

Is it Psychosis? Or is it Rey Mysterio? Or Rey Mysterio Jr.? I dunno. Nice high-flying match, again. Psichosis just tosses Rey around, a bit slow at spots, but, still, a good match.

Review: TITLE MATCHES

MATCH #1

Path of Destruction kicked off with not a normal match, as a normal match is normally...you know, 1 on 1, 2 men in the ring at a time. But for 1 night ECW sanctioned a 4 corner elimination match for the TV Title. (Champion) Chris Jericho VS 2 Cold Scorpio VS Shane Douglas VS Pitbull #2. The match lasted almost 40 minutes and featured a lot of high impact moves as well as a lot of great wrestling. The match wasn't perfect though as there were a few slow spots mainly because of Scorpio's stalling and there were a couple of spots blown thanks to Pitbull #2. Other than that it was a great match.

Match Rating: ****1/4

MATCH #2

The 2nd match which lasted 15 minutes featured the beginning of the longest TV title reign in ECW history. (Champion) Bam Bam Bigalow VS Rob...Van...Dam. RVD made Bigelow look like a monster in this very entertaining match with 2 RVD mouth opening spots. The match as a whole was very solid and had a great ending.

Match Rating: ****1/4

HARDCORE MATCHES

MATCH 1

The first hardcore match featured the first ever Stairway To Hell match with Sandman taking on Sabu for 18 mintes. This is a pure garbage wrestling match with a lot of semi-impressive spots and quite a lot of blood as would be expected. The match ended a bit earlier due to Sabu breaking his jaw. If Sabu didn't break his jaw and had a better opponent the match could have been a hardcore classic...

Match Rating: *3/4

MATCH #2

This is the Tai Pei Death Match featuring Ian Rotten taking on his brother Axl Rotten. The match was boring with both guys jabbing their glass covered hands into each others head for about 10 minutes. There was a lot of blood but that's about it.

Match Rating: DUD

CLASSIC MATCHES

MATCH 1

Tajiri, Super Crazy & Jerry Lynn battle in a 3-way elimination match. All of these guys are great athletes representing Japan, Mexico and The States. this is a very entertaining 11 minutes of pure non stop action. It just shows you how underrated Lynn is in the WWF as his performance in this match is outstanding. The only bad thing about the match is that it was too short.

Match Rating: ***1/4

The DVD version features 2 more matches...Eddy Guerrero VS Dean Malinko in a 2/3 falls match. I believe this is a very solid match but not the best they have done. The other match is Rey Mysterio Jr. VS Psychosis in the tipical good luchador match.

The VHS version of Path of Destruction is a must have for all wrestling fans. There is a bit of everything in the VHS for everyone, Bloody hardcore battles, Great spotfests and some solid wrestling.

Thumbs Way up for Path Of Destruction

Summary: Second Best "Best Of" From ECW
Review: When I purchased the ECW best of.... DVD's, I expected blood, guts, gore, and all that good stuff ECW was so well known for. And this one delivers.....sort of. First off, there is a lot of "wrestling" in this DVD. The DVD starts off with a 4-corners match with a young Chris Jericho, 2 Cold Scorpio, Pitbull #2, and obviously one of the most famous wrestlers ever in ECW, Shane Douglas. This is surprisingly good, but long and drawn out. 2 Cold Scorpio(...). Jericho looks really good, but is out of the match early. When all is said and done, Douglas and Pitbull #2 start a long, drawn out feud when Francine joins up with Douglas. Overall, this is one of the better matches on the DVD.

If like wrestling, there's a lot more of it on the DVD. The final match in ECW for two hall of famers, Dean Malenko and Eddy Guererro is a 5 star match, with too many moves to count and more technical wrestling than ECW had in it's final 4 years. Psychosis vs. Rey Misterio Jr. is so overrated...it's not even funny. The match is typical lucha style, and to call it a "classic" is giving it more credit than it deserves.

If it's hardcore wrestling you yearn for, like I do, this DVD delivers with a surprisingly good Stairway to Hell Match pitting Sabu vs. The Sandman, with lots of (...)spots. Ian vs. Axl Rotten is dull, but there is quite a bit of blood. And of course, Rob Van Dam's surprising win over Bam Bam Bigelow is played up to be one of the best matches ever....and it isn't. But it is decent, with Van Dam doing some incredible acrobatics.

Overall, this is a 4 star DVD, and the second best "best of" by ECW. If you are a casual fan with respect for a good combination of wrestling and violence, you will be pleasantly surprised by Path of Destruction.

Summary: HOLY S*** ALL THE WAY!
Review: You want a perfect video compilation of ECW? Well, this tape had to have been THE one tape to get if you ever planned on getting only one.

1. Shane Douglas vs. Pitbull #2 vs. 2 Cold Scorpio vs. Chris Jericho- What a 40-minute marathon! All 4 men really put their all as if their lives were on the line, but of course it was only for the TV Championship. Nobody was slowing down in this whole battle. Frankensteiners, suplexes, submission holds, smarmy cheats, steel chairs, springboard leaps, and a woman being put through a table...this match had everything but a ladder in it. This was the very first ECW match I ever saw, and I'm glad it was. *****

2. Rob Van Dam vs. Bam Bam Bigelow- Remember Robbie V. Dam, the Whole Dam Show in WWF? Well, watch this, and prepare for a Whole Effin' Show as Dam begins his nearly two-year reign as the TV Champ! Rob literally is THE Show as he pummels the goliath with an endless array of flying kicks and two incredible leaps from the top turnbuckle and 20 feet across the ring! A Van Daminator later, and Rob becomes the legend revered among ECW fans. *****+

3. Sabu vs. Sandman- By the time you finish watching this match, you'll ask yourself, "What the ...was that all about?" A tremendously bloody and gruesome prelude to TLC, Stairway to Hell is a match where a ladder leads to barbed wire on the ceiling, which can be used to torture the hapless opponent! The Sandman is insanely demolished through 4 tables, and is skewered left and right by the barbed wire. Sabu, meanwhile, breaks his jaw in an aerial assault, and has to wear duct tape over his jaw for the rest of the feud! All this insanity comes to an end when Sandman cracks a Singapore Cane onto Sabu's noggin. As Joey Styles said best, "Here is your....winner?...My god...") The fans were sure glad this match ended, and frankly, so will you. ****1/2

4. Ian Rotten vs. Axl Rotten- This was the weakest match in the tape, but it was also the bloodiest, and, help us someone, the shortest. Ian and Axl basically spill each other's liquids of life by beating each other down with gloves filled with broken glass. Axl finishes off his brother by tossing him on a bed of tacks, and then splashing him for the cover. The final shot has got to be the scariest of them all; don't eat dinner any time sooner when watching this. ***

5. Tajiri vs. Super Crazy vs. Jerry Lynn- The last match contains none of the blood or hardcore weaponry of any previous match, but that's not a bad thing; it's a really good thing! Kudos to all three men for delivering a non-stop aerial assault that the crowds reasonably dug this one more than any of the other matches in the tape. Lynn's spinning maneuevers, Tajiri's mean kicks, and Super Crazy's crazy leaps (check out that 2-story moonsault off the balcony!) are all nothing like you've seen before. Those three are so incredible, they're the foundations for my name. (Get it? Tajiri, Jerry Lynn, the Insano Luchadore?) *****+++

Wowie! I can't wait to get the DVD version of this one, which will include matches featuring luchadores Rey Mysterio and Dean Malenko!

Until then, this "P.O.D." will stand in my memory maybe forever.
