Summary: Summerslam 2002
Review: This was a good event overall with two great matches and action throughout the near three hours.
Mysterio-Angle: Possible the best opening PPV ever. Great, great match.
Y2J-Flair: It wasn't the second coming of Flair-Steamboat WrestleWar 89, but still not a bad match with a, shall we say, unusual (but still effective) ending.
Guerrero-Edge: Another interesting match. They would go on to have a better match a few weeks later on SD!, but this was still another solid match. No complaints here.
Tag Title Match: No matter how many times I hear Ross say that the Un-Americans made him physically ill, I still get a kick out of it. Probably the least memorable match on the card.
IC title match: I hope this isn't the last time these two are in the ring against each other. Good match to me (the crowd didn't really get into it-I'll address the fans again later). I liked it.
'Taker-Test: Test kept up with the Dead Man and the match went back and forth. The Un-Americans involvement was predictable, but the tombstone 'Taker used sure wasn't. Good ending to okay match.
HBK-HHH: This match ended up as runner up for Match of the Year, and I have no disagreements with that (or the actual Match of the Year). It's been years since I heard a crowd groan over a back breaker, but when The Game did it to Michales, you could here the crowd voice its concern. I should have seen the ladder being involved (HBK was in an IC title ladder match in '95, HHH in '98) and the table part was interesting as well. Very interesting ending including HHH smiling despite being covered in blood after the sledghammer shot.
Rock-Brock: Yes, I like the Rock and no, I don't like to see him lose; but what the happy hell did he do to deserve the reaction he got in this match? I thought they would have rioted if he would have won. The monster won probably because their is no other way this match could have ended.
Overall a great event despite the unfortunate main event.

Summary: Best PPV of 2002
Review: SummerSlam saw the return of HBK and 'The Next Big Thing' become the big thing. This DVD contains extras which contain 5 post match interviews, training with Brock Lesnar, training with The Rock, the HBK story,Making of SummerSlam commercial, The F-5, Sunday Night Heat Kurt Angle Interview, Brock Lesnar V Hulk Hogan 8/8/02 and Shawn Michaels on Byte This. SummerSlam started off with a great opener between Rey Mysterio and Kurt Angle. Chris Benoit defended his Intercontinental title against RVD, HBK made a 4 year come back to battle HHH in a non sanctioned match and The Rock defended his Undiputed title against Brock Lesnar. What a bad night for The Rock, not only did he booed by the crowd he lost his title due to one F-5 by Lesnar. This DVD would be a great buy, this is definetely one the best PPV's of 2002. The only bad thing about the DVD is watching Chris Jericho battle Ric Flair, waste of time. Other than that the PPV is great.

Matches

Summary: Best PPV of the Year!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: Summerslam 2002 was a great PPV. It had a very solid card and some great matches. Summerslam 2002 was held in August of 2002 at the Nassau Coliseum in Uniondale, New York. I will rank and review the matches for you. They are based out of ten points.

1. KURT ANGLE (VS) REY MYSTERIO
This was a great opening match. This fued stemmed from Rey Mysterio embarassing Kurt Angle on Smackdown for the weeks leading up to Summerslam. This match was Rey Mysterio's first WWE PPV match. The match was very fast paced and filled with many great moves. At one point Rey Mysterio does a sommersault flip over the referee onto Angle on the outside floor. Angle kicks out of the West Coast Pop. Angle wins after Mysterio taps to the Ankle Lock, which Angle had reversed on Mysterio off the top rope. Great match. The crowd was really into this match. (8.5/10)
2. RIC FLAIR (VS) CHRIS JERICHO
These two competitors had a heated fued leading up to this match. The match was disappointing to say the least. This was a very slow match. Flair wins after Jericho taps to the Figure Four Leglock. (6/10)
3. EDGE (VS) EDDIE GUERRERO
This match could have been a lot better if it wasn't forced into. The match wasn't made until the previous Smackdown on Thursday. Not much hype went into it. Edge wins it with Edgecution. This match was disappointing, but they made up for it at Unforgiven and in the No DQ/Ladder match from Smackdown. (6/10)
4. CHRISTIAN & LANCE STORM (VS) BOOKER T & GOLDUST (TAG TITLE)
The crowd hated Christian and Lance Storm with a passion. It was a very entertaining match with a lot of action and many close falls. At one point Booker T scissor kicks both Storm and Christian at the same time. Storm and Christian retain the titles with outside interference from Test. Good match. (8/10)
5. ROB VAN DAM (VS) CHRIS BENOIT (INTERCONTINENTAL)
This was the lone interpromotional match of the PPV. Many people were disappointed with this match, but I was very impressed. The match showed a much different side to RVD's wrestling ability. The match ended up being a very technical match. Benoit looks like he has the match in had when he goes to give a Superplex off the top rope, but RVD reverses it into a Body Press. RVD becomes new champ after delivering the Five Star Frog Splash. Good match. (8/10)
6. UNDERTAKER (VS) TEST
This match was one of Test's better performances. Good match with a lot of action. Test even kicks out of the Chokeslam. Christian and Lance Storm interfere, but the Undertaker fights them off. The Undertaker administers the Tombstone to Test. He covers him to get the 1-2-3. (8/10)
7. SHAWN MICHAELS (VS) TRIPLE H (NON-SANCTIONED)
Great match. This was HBK's long awaited return from a four and a half year absence. He showed he still had it. Very emotionally charged match. The crowd was in it from the get go. There are so many high spots in this match. Triple H Side Suplexes Michaels' through a chair. Triple H bleeds like crazy in this match. The best spot of the match is when HBK places Triple H on a table on the arena floor and climbs up to the top rope and Body Splashes onto the table through Triple H. Amazing. Michaels even brings out a ladder in the match and delivers the Flying Elbow off the ladder to Triple H. The ending is fantastic. HBK goes to give Triple H Sweet Chin Music, but Triple H blocks it and reverses it into the Pedigree. But, Michaels blocks reverses that into a version of the Sunset Flip to get the 1-2-3. Triple H hits Michaels in the back with a sledgehammer after the match. Triple H has such an evil smile on his face after this hideous act. What a match!!!!!!!!!! Second best match of the year, losing out to Rock and Hogan at Wrestlemania. Still, one of the best emotionally charged matches you will ever see. (10/10)
8. BOCK LESNAR (VS) THE ROCK (UNDISPUTED CHAMPIONSHIP)
These two competitors had a very tough act to follow. The match ended up being a lot better than I thought. The last five or so minutes of the match are very entertaining. It starts out with the Rock delivering a Rock Bottom through the announce table. The two competitors get into the ring and both deliver there finishers, but they are either kicked out off or blocked or reversed. Finally, Lesnar gives The Rock and F-5 to become new champ. Good match. Much better than I thouhght it would be. (8.5/10)

EXTRAS
The extras are decent. There are some interviews, The Rock and Brock's training video and a match between Lesnar and Hogan from Smackdown. This is the match were Lesnar injures Hogan. It is an ok match. (7.5/10)

Overall, this was a great PPV. I think it was the best PPV of the year. The crowd was in it from start to finish. The best matches were Angle and Mysterio, HBK and Triple H, and Lesnar and The Rock. I strongly recommend this DVD for purchase. It will be a great addition to your collection.

Review: Summerslam 2002 was a great PPV...The Opener was good and the Main Event was awesome...The Streetfight between HBK and HHH will take your breath away. Michaels really showed us he still has what it takes to be a winner. All matches are rated /5!

1. Kurt Angle vs Mysterio- Very fast paced match, These 2 work awesome together and I hope to see more from these 2 in the future. This had an awesome finish 2. Angle wins via Ankle Lock. 5/5

2. Ric Flair vs Jericho- This was sort of a technical match in my mind. They did alot of submission moves and Ric Flair won via Figure Four. 4/5

3. Edge vs Eddie- This was a good match. I expected alot of high flying and that is what I saw. Eddie worked on Edge's should for the majority of the match. Edge wins via Spear. 4/5

4. Tag Team Titles Booker and Goldust vs Un-Americans- This was an entertaining match till the end where Test interferes and cost Booker and Goldust the Tag Titles. Un-Americans win via Test big boot to Booker. 4.5/5

5. Intercontinental Title, RVD vs Benoit- Show Stealer, this was a back and forth match. Benoit tried the Crossface and locked it but RVD got to the ropes. A little after that RVD wins and retains via 5 Star Frog Splash. 5/5

6. Undertaker vs Test- This was a Hard-Hitting match and Undertaker won this via Tombstone and won this match for America. 5/5

7. Streetfight, HHH vs HBK- HBK's return match and what a return match it was. These 2 faught in the ring and out of the ring and I was surprised by all the weapons that came in to this match. Even HBK's Ladder came into play. HBK wins via Roll-up. 5/5

8. WWE TITLE, ROCK VS BROCK- This match was great. I loved hearing the fans boo Rock...He is now a heel! Brock really showed what he had in this match. Great Match. 5/5

Summary: Surprisingly excellent
Review: Times haven't exactly changed in the WWE as of now, but the WWE was and still is at a transition point. With The Rock only working a few dates a year due to his blossoming Hollywood career, Austin, who at the time walked out on the company and has only worked one match since re-emerging in the WWE, and declining rates amongst other issues, Vince McMahon wisely pushed younger superstars and or WCW pushovers (i.e. John Cena, Booker T) while bringing back "living legends" (i.e. Hulk Hogan, Kevin Nash). One of the better moves that Vince made in 2002 was calling up Brock Lesnar from his farm wrestling promotion, OVW into the big league and pushing Brock as "The Next Big Thing." It led to an astronomical championship match with the hype the size of Hulk Hogan vs. Andre The Giant of WMIII: Rock vs. Brock. And oh yeah, Shawn Michaels in-ring return at Summerslam was the story of the night. All in all, a very good pay-per-view, the best since the WWE brand extension. A rundown of the matches:

1. Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle. Impressive PPV debut by Rey Rey which cemented his position as a higher-echelon star on Smackdown. Highly energetic opener that kicked off Summerslam just right. (5/5)

2. Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair. Why McMahon nudged Flair to wrestle again is beside me. Flair has wrestled for 25 years or more and with time and age, Flair has become just as slow as Kevin Nash. But Jericho compensated nicely to make this match just an okay one. (3/5)

3. Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero. Edge's mat technique really improved as a singles performer and against one of the best technical lucha libres in the business, Edge performed with flying colors. When he returns from injury, Edge is ready for superstardom. (4.5/5)

4. World Tag Team Championship: Lance Storm & Christian (Champions) vs. Booker T & Goldust. Nice pace to this match which elicited a pretty good crowd reaction. Pretty good. (3.5/5)

5. Intercontinental Championship: Chris Benoit (Champion) vs. Rob Van Dam. Being a technical mark, this match looked like the Super Bowl or the World Series on paper. The best technician in wrestling, Chris Benoit against one of the most radical high-flying martial arts-based wrestlers ever seen, Rob Van Dam. Benoit had taken great control of the mat throughout the match, but RVD gets the duke with his aerial-based attack prevailing in the end. (5/5)

6. Undertaker vs. Test. Taker takes down Test and the UnAmericans in what was a match that hit par. Surprisingly good pace. (3/5)

7. Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H. Hands down match of the year. Great storyline considering HBK hadn't wrestled in four years prior to Summerslam and his ties on and backstage with Triple H. It was the best Trips had wrestled since returning January 2002 and Shawn Michaels? Well, let's just say he started where he last left off. Superb match that worked on all elements. (5/5)

8. WWE Championship Match: The Rock (Champion) vs. Brock Lesnar. This match despite the hype was a tough act to follow, but it was a pretty quick bout, clocking in at about 12-14 minutes. The big highlight was Rock getting booed during the match, which gave Vince the idea to make Rock turn heel when he came back earlier this year before No Way Out and to turn Brock into the next Stone Cold Steve Austin. (5/5)
