Summary: Summerslam Does Not Get Any Better Than This!
Review: The most anticipated WWE Title match in Summerslam history: Rock vs. Brock. This match lived up to the hype and then some. From top to bottom, the whole card was a classic in the making. The final two matches themselves are candidates for match of the year. Not only was there an Undisputed Title match, but there was the long awaited return of HBK! Shawn Michaels returns to the ring in showstopping fashion to do battle against his former D-X running buddy, Triple H in an incredible non-sanctioned match. This match blows away Rock vs. Hogan from Wrestlemania X8 as HBK proves that he is the icon that can still go. Also on the card is Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio: an excellent opening match. Ric Flair vs. Chris Jericho. Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero. Test vs. The Undertaker. Lance Storm & Christian defend the Tag Team Titles against Booker T & Goldust. Another classic as Rob Van Dam challenges Chris Benoit for the Intercontinental Title. From beginning to end you will be on the edge of your seat as the WWE delivers the best PPV of 2002!

Summary: Great ppv.
Review: This was one of the best ppvs of 2002. Here are the matches:

Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle. This was one of the reasons i bought this DVD. I thought this match would be good and it was. Kurt locked on the ankle lock outta nowhere for the win. **** (outta *****)

Ric Flair vs. Chris Jericho. This match was ok, I am not too big on this fued. But the match was pretty good. Ric Flair wins with the Figure 4. **

Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero. Awesome match. These two really showed their stuff in this match, and it was great. Edge barely wins with the Spear. *****

Tag Team Titles: Storm and Christian vs. Booker T and Goldust. I've only watched this match once. It was ok from what I remember. The Un-Americans get the win thanks to Test. **1/2

IC title: RVD vs. Benoit. I didn't think this match would be good, but it was. Benoit did an amazing job and RVD threw in his good moves and you had a good match. After a LONG fight, RVD wins with the 5 Star Frog Splash. ****

Undertaker vs. Test. This match was nothing big. The only good thing from this match that I remember, was Christian and Storm getting chokeslams, and Test getting the tombstone and Taker winning. Nothing big. **

Non-Sanctioned match: HBK vs. HHH. Just like everyone says, this match stole the show. This match was amazing, and proved HBK still had it in him, with the Sweet Chin music with the chair, a elbow drop off a ladder, body splash thru table, etc. This match was awesome. HBK wins thanks to a roll-up. *****

Undisputed Title: The Rock vs. Brock Lesner. This match was better than I thought it would be. These two put on a pretty good match. I was rather surprised that most the ppl went nuts when Brock won the title. But the match was pretty good. ***

The extras include 5 post-match interviews, Brock and Rock's training methods(my fav.), HBk on Byte This, Brock vs Hogan bonus match from SD, The HBK Story, The "F-5" video, and the Summerslam commercial, as well as the making of it.

This was a great ppv. I do not regret buying it. I'd say go ahead and buy it instead of renting it first, cause it was a awesome ppv.

Summary: SummerSlam 2002 Review
Review: 1) Rey Mysterio vs. Kurt Angle
Excellent opener. Very exciting match. Angle wins with the ankle lock, but both men look good. ****

2) Ric Flair vs. Chris Jericho
Horrible booking decision by having Flair win. Still, a good match with good crowd heat. **1/2

3) Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero
Exciting match with a good use of psychology. Their Smackdown! No DQ match a few months later was better, but this is still good. Edge wins. ***1/2

4) Lance Storm and Christian vs. Booker T and Goldust

Good use of psychology with Goldust trapped until he finally lunges and makes the tag. Storm and Christian get interference from Test to win. ***1/2

5) RVD vs. Chris Benoit
Good match, with tons of signature moves by both men. RVD gets the win at around 17 minutes. Good match. ****

6) Undertaker vs. Test
Average match, but still good enough for PPV. Taker wins using the tombstone piledriver. **1/2

7) Shawn Micheals vs Triple H
Great match, spectacular action. HBK splashes HHH through a table in a nice spot. This was match of the night and a match of the year candidate. The in-conclusive finish was bad, bringing it down a bit. HBK wins via roll-up. ****1/2

8) Rock vs. Brock Lesnar
Good match. Rock sells like crazy for Lesnar. Crowd even goes in support of Lesnar. ***3/4

Overall, this was easily WWE's best show of 2002. With 3 matches above **** and the rest at or around that spot, this is a great show. Get it!

Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio: This was a great match. It was fast paced and had alot of good moves. Great opener. 9/10

Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair: This was an ok match but not the greatest match that Jericho or Flair have ever had. 5/10

WWE Tag Team championship: Lance Storm and Christian vs. Booker T. and Goldust This was a decent match. I just wish that Booker and Goldust won. 7/10

WWE Intercontinental Championship: Chris Benoit vs. Rob Van Dam I thought this was a letdown. It was really slow at the beginnging. The second half was good but I was just dissapointed. 4/10

Undertaker vs. Test: This was ok but not the best match. It was better than The Intercontinental title match. 6/10

Non Sanctioned match: Triple H vs. Shawn Michaels Two words. SHOW STEALER!!!!!!!! This was the best match on the card. Both men were superb in it. It was also Shawn Michaels first match back after a career ending back injury. 100000/10

WWE Undisputed Championship: The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar WOW what a match. I loved the part where The Rock whoops I can't tell you. All I can tell you is that it was a great match. 10/10

WE got great seats to this amazing event. Every match put me on the edge of my seat. HBK vs. HHH was by far the best. Rock vs. Brock, RVD vs. Benoit, and Angle vs. Mysterio were also top picks. Summary: Best ppv of 2002!
Review: Match 1: Kurt Angle vs. Rey Mysterio
This was a very good match. I was a little shocked it was the opener. Fast-paced action from both men witch ended with Kurt getting the win. 10/10

Match 2: Chris Jericho vs. Ric Flair
This match was very good and technical. Although they should have let Jericho win, it showed that Flair can still wrestle like he used to. Flair picks up the win with a figure 4. 10/10

Match 3: Edge vs. Eddie Guerrero
This was the second best match of the night! This match was very fast-paced and high flying. Both men really deliverd on this one. Edge comes out the victor. 10/10

Match 4: WWE Tag Team Championship:
Bokker T vs. (c's)Un-Americans( Lance Storm and Christian)
Goldust
This match was an ok match. I'm glad that wwe finally put people on ppvs that deserved to be on them. Lance Storm and Christian pick up the win with interference from Test. 7/10

Match 5: WWE Intercontinental Champioship:
Rob Van Dam vs. (c)Chris Benoit
This was the best match of the night!! This match had it all. Both men showed high flying and technical skills. In the end, Rob Van Dam gets the win with a Five-Star Frog Splash. 10/10

Match 6: Test vs. Undertaker
This was not really a bad match, but it was'nt great either. Test did a pretty good job of working with Taker. Taker gets the win with a Tombstone. 8/10

Match 7: Street Fight:
Shawn Michaels vs. Triple H
This was Shawn's first match back in 4 years! Shawn put on quite a show. Triple H worked really well also. This was one of the best street fights in a while. Shawn proved his career isn't over yet! Shawn gets the win with a pin with brige.

Match 8: WWE Championship:
(c)The Rock vs. Brock Lesnar
This was a pretty good match. Brock and Rock worked pretty well together. The WWE has handled Brock Lesnar's rise very well. Brock gets the win with an F-5. 10/10

Summary: The Best WWE Pay Per View of 2002.
Review: Summerslam 2002 was everything that Wrestlemania 18 should have been but wasn't. The over hyped Mania was a one trick pony, with only Hogan vs Rock as the saving grace of that show. But one match doesn't make a good pay per view event, no matter how good the match was. What you had with Summerslam is eveything a pay per view should have been. And that is great matches by performers that people WANT to see. I say it like that because to many times the WWE is guilty of trying to cram as many people on one ppv as possible with silly 4 way elimination tag team matches or horrible Hardcore battle royals that simply ruin the event. But on Summerslam 2002 there was only one tag team match on the entire card and it was perfectly placed in the middle of the card and it meant something since it was a tag team title match.
Another good thing about this show was that there was minimal outside or backstage antics that also slow down the pace of the show. And finally before I break down each match let me say that the third thing that helped make this a great show was the crowd on hand that night. They were into every match and that goes a long way to help get a show over to the people watching at home.
And with that said here is a match by match description of the card.

Kurt Angle vs Rey Mysterio.
A fantastic match to open the show with. It was fast paced and the action was spread out over the entire match without any dull spots. Angle is simple awesome and Mysterio has proven time and time again he can work out of the Cruiserweight division and have quality matches with anyone.

Chris Jericho vs Ric Flair.
Whoever knocked this match in previous reviews needs to have there heads examined. I guess you have to have been watching wrestling longer that just during the "attitude" era to appreciate Flair. He is without a doubt the best worker ever.
Jericho also can go head up with anyone. This was more of a wrestling match than a spot fest with both men going old school to deliver a very good match to keep the pace of this event going strong.

Edge vs Eddie Guerrero.
This is the third match in a row where you had high quality workers putting on a great show. Great story telling in this match as Edge sold a bum shoulder to let Eddie have his offense. The two of them worked well together in the ring. While this match is not as good as there match a couple weeks later on Smackdown it was still a very good bout and added a solid match to this card.

WWE Tag Team Title Match
The Unamericans(Lance Storm & Christian) vs Booker T & Goldust
This was the only tag match on the show just as how a pay per view should be. The crowd was really into this match and it was booked perfectly with multiple teases of a tag with the face team of Booker T & Goldust. It's hard to keep saying this but yet another match with quality workers.

WWE Intercontinental Title Match
Chris Benoit vs Rob Van Dam.
This could in a way be considered a best of match as both men were given a lot of time to work with in this match and used all of there signature spots in this fantastic match. Benoit never lets wrestling fans down when he is on the card and for that matter neither does RVD. Great match.

The Undertaker vs Test.
Okay this is where they lose a chance to get five stars for this event. I can't even give a breakdown of this match as I used it as a bathroom break. More than likely a lot of brawling and I guess Taker's entrance is kinda cool, so that might saved it from being totally horrid.

Street Fight
Triple H vs Shawn Michaels.
Far and away the best match of the night. What made this great was the fact that they didn't turn it into a hardcore match and fought through the crowd or into the backstage area. The fighting was kept in the ring with just the right amount of ringside brawling. This matched proved that you do not need to over due using something for it to be effective. Towards the end of this match HBK splashes Triple H through a table on the outside of the ring. It wasn't the most intense move you are ever going to see but it got more of a reaction from the crowd then any Jeff Hardy TLC spot ever did. This match stole the show out from an already jam packed card.

After the street fight there was some silly interaction in the ring between Howard Finkle and Trish Stratus. I actually saw this as a positive as it gave the crowd a chance to catch there breath before the main event, and it was better to fill this time with something like this than an actual match that would have had no shot of going over after the street fight.

Main Event
WWE Title Match
The Rock vs Brock Lesnar.
I know that a lot of the smart mark wrestling fans are not that much in favor of The Rock. But when is the last time that The Rock had a bad match? Rock always busts it in the ring and he and Lesnar do what it takes to deliver a worthy main event match, and the cool thing about The Rock is that he knows that he is so over with the crowd that he is willing to do jobs and sell like crazy because he knows he will not lose any of his heat with the fans.

So in closing with the exception of Taker vs Test, I would say if you see a copy of this tape or DVD that you feel is in your price range, Summerslam 2002 is one you should pick up.
