Summary: Everyone HAS to see this movie
Review: This is the best movie I have ever seen. It goes deep inside the streets of New York City and its not one of those all hollywood made movie. It shows the side to drugs so many people have not seen. And I dont like the movie just because Leo is in it I like it because, its a true story and its very very good and I hope that everyone sees it its worth renting

Summary: A dark hard hitting drama
Review: This gripping story about mixed up teenage basketball star Jim Carroll shows Leonardo Dicaprio at his cinematic best. With friends Mickey, Pedro and Neutron Jim swaggers around New York city like he owns the place. Their lives revolve around basketball and drugs and in the end it catches up with them all, leaving the penniless junkies battling to survive on New York's mean streets.

Summary: WAS LEO ACTING OR WAS HE REALLY ON DOPE?
Review: This film is not the damn masterpiece these reviewers are calling it. Its just feels like a dream. We see Jim Caroll's life but in different sections and its like an incomplete jig saw puzzle. Leo gave an ok performance although I'd like to think most of the time he REALLY was on coke. Mark Walberg gave a hell of a performance that was underated. All in all its an ok film with less good points and more bad qualities. Sometimes i wonder if the script was a million pages and they cut it down to 200....who knows.

Summary: Leo perfectly portrayed the truth of Jim Carroll's life.
Review: It was great. I loved both the movie and the book. It's my favorite. Jim Carroll portrayed by Leonardo DiCaprio was excellent. A lot of people loved it, and I thought it was great. I would also like to point out that Tracey S. is the biggest Leo fan in the world. Scott picked a great Jim.

Summary: A POWERFUL MOVIE
Review: A depiction of the degredation and violence that can be associated with drug abuse can bring about, I thought this film was remarkable in its presentation of the anti drug message. Compare this with what often seems like the soft spoken mildness of the "just say no" approach.

For reasons that elude me, many often ranted and raved against this movie. After the dreadfully awful Colorado shootings, for example, their seemed to be a desire to absolutely demolish the picture.

Summary: shows an adolescent's struggle through life with drugs
Review: I LOVE THIS MOVIE!! A great portrayal of Jim Carroll's biography. It was very graphic, yet if it hadent been the point would not have gotten through. I thought Leonardo did an excellent job with this movie (one of his best performances ever) and showed the world what hard drugs can do to you physically and emotionally.

Summary: Good
Review: I enjoyed this movie quite a bit. It was a cold and bitter portrayal of someone who nearly loses their life to junk. It was disturbing, which is good. Leonardo played his role to a T. The only confusing thing with this movie is the fact that I don't know who the hell Jim Carroll is. I wouldn't know him if he walked up to me and slapped me in the face.

Summary: Captivating and gripping
Review: The Basketball Diaries blew me away. Not only was the story moving and gripping, but the acting was also quite good. It demonstrates what really happens when you get caught for hustling, and hooked. it was very real and very well done.

Summary: Very emotionally touching.Things like that happen!Very real!
Review: This movie has touched me.It was very real. Teenagers do turn to drungs when no one is there for them. The acting in this movie was unbelievable! Leonardo Dicaprio was phenomonal when he acted out the withdrawl scenes. That was very hard to watch. Some people can acutally die from that terrible process. All though the movie was based on a true story I read the real diary of Jim Carroll also and I have to say that the real thing was worse than the movie. How can the diary be worse thatn the movie? It was pretty bad. All in all I think we should produce movie's like that more often and show it to teenagers and they can see what could happen to them. It can teach so called wise asses to calm it. But they usually get taken care of in life. They usually end up no where. The movie was fantastic. I recommend it to anyone 14 and over.

Summary: Read The Book!
Review: Check out the book. It will take you about an hour to read and has eveything the movie lacks - namely humor, drama, intelligence, a modicum of authenticity and entertainment value. Might make a good investment for the most rabid (and brain dead) Leo fans out there.
