Review: The New Guy review
By: Brayden

If you thought that The New Guy is about a person who goes to a new school, well you're totally, absolutely, positively wrong!!!!!

You'll love The New Guy when you see the funny dancing, funny violence, and of course funny people. Some people are mean in the movie, but some people are nice and sweet.

The New Guy is about a senior high schooler ( DJ Qualls) who was a big geek last year because of bullies. He gets tired of being a geek and tries to get in trouble. But he gets in big enough trouble to go to jail. There he finds a friend ( Eddie Griffin) who teaches him how to be cool for his new school.

I'd give it four stars because of a particular scene. A bully from the old school comes to the new guy's school to [trouble him], but everyone in the the new guys school beets up the bully and a little dude has a trash can that all the bullies pick on.

Critics say "would you laugh at a tuba playing dwarf rolled down the hill in a trash can? Do you chuckle at the thought of an ancient Liberian whacking a certain part of a mans body? If you say yes to both of those questions, then enjoy the show.

That's my information of "The New Guy" hope you see the movie. (pg-13 and 88 minutes) Some content may not be suitable for kids under 13.

Summary: CAN'T TURN THE CHANNEL!
Review: LOVE THIS MOVIE! IF IT'S ON WHEN I'M CHANNEL SURFING DIRECT TV, I STOP NO MATTER WHAT ELSE IS ON. I LOVE THE WAY HE STARTED AT HIS NEW SCHOOL. I DID THE SAME THING WHEN I WAS IN ELEMENTARY SCHOOL. WE MOVED A LOT WHEN I WAS A GIRL. I WENT TO THREE DIFFERENT SCHOOLS IN THE SECOND GRADE ALONE. I LEARNED TO BE "SILENT & DEADLY" BEFORE I MADE FRIENDS. THERE WERE A LOT OF "MEAN GIRLS", BUT I GREW UP FIGHTING MY OLDER SISTER. I DIDN'T TAKE ANY CRAP AFTER THE FIRST GRADE. MY SISTER USED TO CHASE ME WITH AN AX! I LEARNED HOW TO STAND UP FOR MYSELF AT SCHOOL. HOME WAS HELL. WHEN I WAS 11, I THREW HER OUT A CLOSED WINDOW. IT WAS OVER AFTER THAT. SHE IS STILL MEAN AND CRUEL. SOME KIDS NEVER CHANGE, BUT "THE NEW GUY" CAN GIVE ANYBODY HOPE (AND A PLAN).

Summary: Revenge of the 21st Century nerd
Review: This movie is what it is. A far-fetched tail of a hundred pound dork who gives himself a makeover, goes along with his own hype, then finally having to face up to the truth. It's a story Disney has done a thousand times.

The cameos, as it has been said in other reviews make this movie stand out a little more than say Mean Girls or American Pie. Gene Simmons as a Baptist Preacher, Vanilla Ice as a record store clerk, Lyle Lovitt as the Blip's dad, and Henry Rollins as the Jailhouse Warden do give this flick an edge. Seeing Lyle Lovitt getting shot in the eye with a flaming marshmellow is almost worth the cost of admission.

However there is one thing that needs to be pointed out that no other reviewer has said. Everyone likes the cheerleaders, but I think the hottest babe in the movie was the red-headed school doctor. What a cutie with those pig-tails. She is a red hot mama and if I was the dad, I would have made my move.

Yes some of the humor is low brow. I mean what librarian anywhere would grab it, hold on to it, and say "It's mine now!". The thought that The Dizz could put on a Patton act and get his school to the football state championship is ludicrous, and does anyone here really think he should have gotten the girl in the end? C'mon.

Summary: Eliza Dushku worth a star
Review: First of all, please don't believe the positive reviews that this is a well-made high school comedy. It isn't. Now I don't usually write movie reviews, at least not on [...], as I am never sure if the movie should be judged on its content, or the DVD judged on its features, or a combination of both. Nevertheless I felt it necessary to write about this film. Because it stinks. Bites the Big One. Really bad. In other words, a turkey special. Without the cranberry sauce or stuffing.

Now don't get me wrong. I am not a movie snob. My collection of DVDs, videotapes, and downloaded films contains everything from Eurotrip to Van Wilder to Orange County so I know there is always time for a decent stupid teen, college, or stoner comedy. Sex, drugs, poo, slapstick, herb, booze, and other mischief- Hey, if it is done right, I can dig it and laugh my [...] off.

But therein lies the rub about this film. It tries too hard, or maybe not hard enough. The jokes fall flat, the acting is slilted, the lines rushed, the sound is poor. The comedy just never reaches the surface. If the source material in the script is junk, and the acting is junk, and the delivery of the lines is junk, and the actual cinemetography and production is junk....Then what you are left with is pure caca.

Here's your plot: Humiliated nerd dude changes schools, and with help of prison convict, gets a make-over, becomes cool, gets the hotties, abandons nerd friends, but in the end, realizes it doesn't matter if you are cool or not. Wow, never heard that one before.

DJ Qualls is not only one of the ugliest, creepiest skeletal forms on earth but he is also an irritating dork with zero charisma, zero acting ability and zero charm. A tip: Never trust a guy whose [...] is wider than his shoulders. What were they thinking to give him this roll? Eliza Dushku wouldn't touch this dude with a 100 foot pole so we are to believe she would fall for him in his "new" look? Pa-leezz!

The editing, production values, and cinematography are poor. If the mechanics of a movie aren't even up to snuff, you are in trouble.

Other major irritation factors: The repeated "oh look it's the midget dude" scenes (hey he was only a half-midget and not funny at all), and the repeated whip-sound used over and over again. And of course the O'Connell brothers appearances. Jerry O'Connell must be setting some kind of record for junk films with this one and Tom Cats. Oh and of course the world's least funny comedian, Horatio Sanz, also has a small roll.

The movie's only redeeming features:
Eliza Dushku, Eliza Dushku, Eliza Dushku, and her bikini-changing scene. Did I mention Eliza Dushku? Oh, and a few minor cameos from people like Henry Rollins, Vanilla Ice and Tommy Lee.

All in all, an extremely amaturish, stiff, poorly paced and acted teen comedy wannabe. Only watch this film if completely inebriated. Otherwise I guarantee you will suffer a headache.
