Summary: You can really learn from this DVD
Review: In this dvd the instructor Jim really does show what to do and he explains all the karate moves in such a way I could start doing them right away ... I was really pleased I was able to show my parents some good karate stuff. I think this tape is great and everyone who wants to learn karate moves should have one.

Summary: Adams review.
Review: I find this production to be well thought out and executed and it is a relevent guide regardless of grade because it helps the student gain a strong foundation in the basics of karate. What this production shows is to practice the basics with the correct posture , attitude, details such as foot positioning in front stance and much more useful advice.

Rating: 5 stars
Summary: Great for learning the basics
Review: I got Jim's excellent dvd Beginner's Guide to Kendo and really enjoyed that so I got a copy of his karate dvd and my impressions are the same that Jim Wilson is also a master of karate and the way he explains the different moves is very clear and easily followed... Jim shows how to do the various kicks and strikes and moves and although he doesnt show the kata or work with a partner in this dvd it still is a great dvd for helping with the how to perform the various karate moves ...my younger brother is learning taekwon do karate and he says this dvd has helped him to improve his moves.

Summary: Very good for improving
Review: My dad got me and my sister this DVD to improve our karate. Jim teaches very methodically and clearly, starting with the very very basics of everything - good for any level of karate though--basics are always a good thing to review.

Summary: Does everything it claims on the box....
Review: Plus factor

This is one of the few teaching tapes that really is useful as a training aid ... Jim wilson explains all the various kicks , punches , strikes in such an " Easy to learn from way " that I would recommend this tape to anyone wanting to learn or sharpen up their karate striking basic.....he explains about stances , shows how to use the hip correctly and the correct way to use the body to generate maximum power and speed ... this is much more than a beginners guide ...its a full explanation of basic technique performance .......whether you are a complete beginner or someone like me who has been training for reasonable time it is a great reference and learning guide..

Negatives

It was obviously filmed as a video and transferred to DVD and so suffers from some lack of chapters I would also have preferred if he had included the basic kata and kumite sparring drills as well making the tape so much more valuable ... but despite that I think its still a worthy buy.....

Summary: Excellent Explanation of Basic Techniques
Review: This DVD provides an excellent grounding in the performance of the basic techniques of Shotokan Karate and also applies to any hitting based martial art. This DVD will not only appeal to beginners, I strongly recommend it to seasoned martial artists as well as it provides such an indepth and enlightening explanation on how to use your body correctly to optimise your effectiveness. I`ve been training in Karate for over 15 years and the lessons from this DVD have enabled me to reach a much deeper understanding and capability in my techniques. Strongly recommended.
