Description:
Try Tai Chi is an easy, slow-paced, gentle introduction to Tai Chi, designed for beginners. Dr. Paul Lam starts with a slow, extended warm-up, set in what looks like a community center, with a variety of people--mostly seniors--who look excruciatingly solemn. Lam cues for the participants, not the viewer, so you have to reverse his "left" and "right" instructions. Then he progresses to a five-movement set, which is shown both facing Lam and following behind him or another demonstrator for ease of learning. Lam instructs slowly and thoroughly. Don't look for high-tech production here or much motivation or warmth, just a quiet and capable introduction to this ancient art. This video, which contains segments from Lam's Tai Chi for Arthritis, Tai Chi for Diabetes, and Tai Chi for Beginners, is best used for practice in conjunction with a class. --Joan Price
