Summary: Basics are covered but too fast paced.
Review: I have been taking beginner ballet classes and purchased this video to help me understand the steps, especially those I was having a hard time with. This video covered the basics as in class, but it moved way to fast. It is difficult to keep up with and even more difficult to have to rewind to go over steps. It requires time and patience.

Review: I was pleasantly surprised when I got this video. It is definitely educational and beautiful. I also like the music. It has encouraged me to work toward my goal.

Summary: A good tape for grade 2 upwards
Review: This is an excellent video for beginners. It goes slowly through all of the positions and commonly used terms in ballet at the barre. Then it moves in to the middle of the floor and does some more complicated moves. It shows most of the steps on one side only but you can easily figure out the other side.

Summary: Great video, but not for absolute beginners!
Review: This video goes through a lot of ballet moves in a short time (40 min), and focuses on how to execute the moves correctly. If you are already taking a ballet class it'll help you improve your technique, and it also gives you explanations for the French terminology used in ballet. David Howard is a great instructor, and the young ballerina executes the steps perfectly. Most of the moves are only demonstrated on one side, so you have to pause the tape to work on the other side. For a beginner this video will probably be too complicated. If you want a first introduction to ballet, I think the "Ballet 101" and "Ballet 201" videos are better. If you want an exercise video I would recommend "The Ballet Workout" with Melissa Lowe instead; it's easier, and you don't have to pause the tape to work on both sides.
