Summary: Clearly November baseball is something very special...
Review: To tell the truth, I knew the Diamondbacks were going to win Game 7 when Randy Johnson came in as a relief pitcher. I suddenly knew that he was going to get his third win in the series; it was just a question of how it was going to happen. Of course, by the 9th inning of Game 7 it had already been well established that this was a World Series in which anything could happen. On the one hand you have the three-time defending World Champion New York Yankees, the most storied franchise in baseball history, and on the other hand you have the Arizona Diamondbacks, in the big show in only their fourth season as an expansion franchise. It is a bit simplistic to note that this was a World Series in which the home team won all seven games, which is certainly interesting since it was not a World Series involving the Minnesota Twins. In retrospect the key factor was the fact that the last four games, three of which were incredibly memorably because of 9th inning (and beyond) heroics, all ended in November, a new frontier for Major League Baseball. Like Carlton Fisk's famous home run in a losing effort, who can forget when lightning struck twice for the Yankees in Games 4 and 5? Then again, if you want to talk about lightning twins, how about Series Co-MVPs Randy Johnson and Curt Shilling? "2001 World Series - Arizona Diamondbacks vs. New York Yankees" covers all of the playoffs, so you will have all the replays you will ever need of Derek Jeter's backhanded flip to nail Jeremy Giambi at the plate. This tape makes especially good use of the interviews with the players, which are inserted to give additional insights into the key moments of the series (although Randy Johnson is notably missing from the talking heads). However, the narration is a bit heavy handed at times, especially given the tape tries to deal with the impact of September 11th on baseball in general and the New York Yankees in particular. When the magic is happening on the field right before your eyes, you do not need to hype the moment so much.

Summary: Best World Series Ever?
Review: Was the 2001 world series the greatest of all time. As a baseball history buff, I think that it probably is. With so many great games and future Hall of Famers, this is essential viewing for every baseball fan. Who would have predicted the Yankees 2(!) stunning come from behind victories at Yankee stadium and the thrilling 7th game. This is also great for all those who don't like how the Yankees (with hugely disproportionate tv revenue) were able to buy another World Series. Awesome!

Review: Wow--You can be a Yankee fan and still enjoy this wonderful look back at a 7 game Classic---the production is first-rate....MLB has put together something special ...Enjoy...a must for all baseball fans.
