Summary: A Primer for the Beginning Fly Fisher
Review: The fly fishing industry is awash with advice, print and visual, for the beginning fly fisher. Mel Krieger's DVD, Beginnings, is an excellent starting point, informative and interesting. Mel's enthusiasm for his chosen sport of fly fishing comes through with every scene together with useful practical advice and techniques for the beginning fly fisher of any gender or age. This DVD also can also offer a refresher course for the fly fisher who has some experience. It should be considered as a part of the beginnning fly fisher's equipment together with a rod, reel, line and flies.

Summary: Wondering if Flyfishing is for you?
Review: To begin with, this DVD will not make you a Flyfisher. This is good thing. The DVD is not about detailed technical's. There are plenty of those around, some excellent ones by this same author. What this DVD does cover is the art and soul of Flyfishing. This DVD has done is taken the what is the first few moments of what is typically the opening or closing of most other FlyFishing DVD's or Videos, what Flyfishing is all about, and turned it into a complete educational experience. This DVD is for the person who wants to understand why people become obsessed with this sport, and why doing is is just as rewarding as catching the fish. It is for the person who feels intimidated by Flyfishing, but wants to to learn more about it without asking someone. Mel's presentation along with the great photography makes it so easy to understand what makes this sport different than other types of fishing, why anyone one can do it, and the rewards one can achieve from participation. It provides a general overview of the sport from catching the fish, to tying the fly, to just enjoying your surroundings. While it does cover all aspects of the sport from a freshwater perspective, it does so from an introductory perspective and makes it look simple and enjoyable, which it truly can be. It is unique among Flyfishing presentations and offers a cornerstone for contemplators or beginners, as well as a paradigm shift for experienced fisher-persons. I highly recommend it.
