Rating: Summary: Excellent film, excellent cast, excellent direction. Review: This has got to be my all-time favorite move. The way it's filmed is incredibly creative and Leonardo really proves that he isn't just another pretty face. END
Rating: Summary: Very few have such talent,Leo is #1 Review: Maybe because I am older, with kids, I felt very touched by his performance in this film. He accomplished all he set out to in my mind. I also believe his depicting characters from reality is excellant, as is all his debuts. He was the poet, Rimbaud, he was a child -man with an affliction in What's eating Gilbert Grape? And, as in all his glory,he is a true romantic , as he was Romeo. His parents & friends must be so very proud , as are we, his devoted fans. I wait with true excitement, anticipating his next film, don't you? END
Rating: Summary: BRILLIANT!!!! Review: This movie gives a good insight of what a drug addict would go through. Leonardo is a excellent actor in this movie and really gets the point across. I loved it. END
Rating: Summary: A new age actor Review: The trouble with this movie is that it will never be truly appreciated for it's outstanding artistic value.Dicaprio is a natural and I hope to see him in more of these challenging roles which he so easily masters as seen in "what's eating Gilbert Grape." It also shed some light on the truly acceptional writings of Jim Carroll. I hope this movie and book as well as acting technique will be studied for it's arcane look at reality. It is a sound read as well as watching value and let's hope Di Caprio continues to show such diversity. END
Rating: Summary: I thought that this book was disgusting but also very funny Review: This book was outrageos. It had too much prifanity for us little kids to deal with. They should not be putting r rated books out on the streets just like that. They need to have beeps over the swears. Please take into consideration next time you write another one of your outrageous, gruesome, awful, profianity books just like that. You know something, This book just is falling off of the charts. This book I think has a rating of negative 500! I read this book to my little five year old boy thinking that it was just a simple book on a diary of a boys basketball life. Little did I know it was about drugs and naked people! By the end of the story my kid was running round rooting for the ladie in the booth!!! Thank-you I am totally fimished. END
Rating: Summary: FantasticLeo DiCarpo is the best actor of his generation Review: Its too bad not too many people have had a chance to see this great film. It shows people acting and talking like real people. DiCaprio as always is riveting and so natural - no wonder some people assume he is a druggie. I recommend the film highly END
Rating: Summary: Leo's the best. Review: I think Leonardo is a brilliant actor, one of the world's best, and his ability really shines through in this movie. He portrays the life of Jim Carroll wonderfully and with such passion. I think he is a brilliant, gorgeous actor who will make it all the way. I LOVE YOU LEO!!!!!!! END
Rating: Summary: This was the best of all Leo movies!!!!!!!!!! Review: This movie is really good! It shows the way real life would be if a young teen took drugs. Everything is so realistic and it has great acting. This movie is a perfect example of a true teen's life. END
Rating: Summary: The best ever I have seen Leonardo displayed a leading role Review: The best ever I loved that movie so much remember to buy the greatest movie in the world with Leonardo DiCaprio other movies he was in was Titanic, Outsiders, Total Eclispe, and many more. END
Rating: Summary: Playing Hard Ball Review: If Leonardo diCaprio had not already made this film, he would be cast immediately for the role of lifetime. Mr. diCaprio's performance as the lanky, audacious, and attitude-heavy high school basketball player whose descent into heroin-hell is the true story of the author, Jim Carroll, can only be described as superb. As often as diCaprio is cited for his Titanic performance, "Basketball Diaries" is one for his resume of fine, solid performances. With cameras in streets of lower Manhattan, the junkie life of a street urchin is neither fun nor games, it is pathos and crime. Teens who flock to diCaprio films should see "Basketball Diaries" as a point of information. When the glamorous veneer of heroin and cocaine wears off, all that is left is the sight of diCaprio -- frothing at the mouth, twisting, and screaming in pain as the cold turkey rehabilitation program of friend, Ernie Hudson takes over his body. Most young girls, the rabid diCaprio fans, would find this scene too realistic and too ugly. But that is what the author intended. In a too brief cameo appearance, Carroll's words are at times glorious poems of haiku grace, but his own speed rap about his memories of a Catholic ceremony is a monologue chilling in its irony, for he is cooking up to fix while he speaks. Fine performances from the young supporting cast including a thuggish Marky Mark Walberg and a heart wrenching Lorraine Bracco as the mother who can do nothing for her son but call the police make "Basketball Diaries" worthy of everyone's attention. END
