Summary: OUTSTANDING
Review: Oustanding series!! I was in the Marine Corp for five years and this series showed some of best and "worst" ways that military people act. It shows the fear in combat, the courage under fire, the comradery between soldiers, the sacrifices that a military person endures during war, and the fun harassment of the troops/friends beside u!! I only wish they would make more episodes. In every episode there is smaller subplot that if u listen to it, would give u valuable lesson in life. I would recomend this to any kid over 6 years old, and maybe younger!!

Review: A must for any StarShip Trooper fan whether of book, movie, or series. They have done a masterful work of including the items of the book and expanding things much farther.

Summary: Wonderfully conceived, flawed by its market
Review: I happened on this series by chance, early in the morning. While the Verhoeven movie was long on gore and romance, it did not compare to the feel of the book, a sweeping adventure in a "utopian" society. This animated series borrowed heavily from the movie, especially the bug designs; but it significantly improved on the feel. Unfortunately it suffered severely since in the United States, any animated film or series is for children, and the concepts and action of this universe are definitely for adults. Thus no gore, also no nudity, and virtually no attempt to translate the interesting society assumptions, that the only way to become a citizen and to vote was to serve in the armed forces (and survive, not an easy feat); although it is alluded to. Given the audience restraints, this is a very worthwhile adaptation, especially since most adaptations of quality sf are severly flawed. The CGI is first rate, second only to Pixar type. It was especially unfortunate that there was insufficient popularity and numerous technical problems in production, and as a result it was never finished. Overall, however, if you are a fan of quality sf in video, you will thoroughly enjoy this DVD. I highly recommend it.

Summary: Thought-provoking Sci-Fi CGI animation
Review: Some sci-fi shows are ahead of their time. Like "Captain Power And The Soldiers From The Future" the series "Roughnecks - The Starship Trooper Chronicles" is a tour de force of thought-provoking sci-fi that didn't deserve its fate. With emotional subplots and character development, this series has the look and feel of the original Heinlein novel that is a must to a sci-fi readers' bookshelf. But the show was doomed to run at 7:30 AM: If it had been run during prime-time, it certainly would've been a runaway hit. I hope that additional episodes are made available and that, someday, this series will be returned to the air to continue its arc.

Summary: Not Quite Either
Review: Having read the Heinlein novel and embracing it I was enthused to see Starship Troopers the motion picture. While a complete departure from the novel it was a great twist version that I did enjoy. It established a new story line for Starship Troopers ... Well, history repeated itself and is now providing a third story line that really went to great lengths to annoy me in that it is related only in character names to the other two. If you love CG fight scenes this DVD rocks! If you are looking for a continuation of the previous story line(S) look elsewhere.

Summary: Starship Troopers Mark III
Review: The original book was the story of one trooper, Rico, and his journey to manhood in the Mobile Infantry of the 23rd century. Rico was an archtypical grunt, or "ape", no more special or important to the war effort than any other ape. He was not particularly heroic or important to the outcome of the war. The movie version was rightly criticized as "Beverly Hills 90120 meets The Jetsons." A banal love triangle with excessive gore and Nazification of Heinlein's concept of the World Federation. The director made a comic strip out of the book.

This version is closer to the original but shows the influence of the movie. There's still a love triangle, there's still blood and gore (not as much as in the movie) but it's more a story about the ordinary soldiers who fight and die in any war, regardless of the century, technology, or enemy. Brilliant, ground breaking CGI with color and texture far greater than needed in a morning cartoon show. The production suffered when one of the 2 companies hired to do the CGI couldn't finish its work and the other's schedule suffered as a result; that's why the episodes were shown out of order, with numerous repeats, and Fridays pre-empted all the time. This cost the show the last 2 episodes of the season that would wrapped up most of the cliffhangers. SST:R ended with a disappointed fanbase and leaving many threads open. Unfortunately it doesn't look like they'll ever revisit it. But still well worth the watch.

Summary: THE BUGS ARE BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Review: Pluto. Coldest planet in our solar system. No life.

-We thought.

I loved this watching TV show on FOX while eating breakfast. Unfortunately, they cancelled it (another one of my favourites gone!!). Now that there are videos about this show I can once again enjoy it. Just to let parents know, this movie has nowhere near as gory as the movie it is based on. The only gore I've seen is bugs getting shot and spraying their green blood on troopers & other things. This incredible movie lets kids enjoy the bug-human war toned down. Watch out for the other "Roughnecks" videos comin' out!!

Review: I bought this DVD on a whim, and I must say it's one of the best purchases I've made in quite a while. Great computer animation, highly-entertaining storyline and character development. I can't wait for the second DVD (due in September).
