Summary: "What is the Matrix...?"
Review: "Unfortunately, no one can be told what the matrix is, you would have to see it for youself." And that is definitely true, you will have to watch this movie to find out what the Matrix is and let me tell you, YOU WON'T REGRET IT!

Here's the basic plot though of "Matrix". Keanu Reeves is Thomas Anderson, the normal every-day computer progammer who 'helps his landlady take out the garbage'. But by night he is an Internet and computer hacker going by the alias Neo. Neo is searching for something, someone to help confirm his belief, that there is something wrong with the world, something undefinable. Like his is stuck in... a dream world. One day he is sought out by the mysterious and beautiful Trinity (Carrie-Anne Moss). She tells him that there is an answer to his question that someone can help him, that someone is Morpheus (Laurence Fishburne). But later Neo finds out that it is not Neo who needs Morpheus, it is the future, that is in need of him. From then on Neo is dragged into a world which is not what it seems, a world which cannot be real, or can it?

A true masterpiece, this movie will just blow you away! Eye popping special effects, mind boggling kung fu, and "take your breath away" action. The last hour of "Matrix" has intense non-stop action that will just keep your mouth hanging open, your eyes glued to the screen. This is the ultimate action/science fiction movie I've ever seen. And not to mention that the acting is fantastic with Reeves, Fishburne, and Moss. You can almost believe that they have been doing ju jitsu all their lives (contrary to that they had only 4 months training with martial arts experts before filming). It's also not only that it's a good movie to watch, it's a good movie in which you watch while thinking. Most movies have great action and effects but, where's the plot? "Matrix" has a plot with twists and turns, surprises, and action.

After reading all this I'm hoping you feel that you really want to see it. This has the makings of a truly great movie, that's why it is! Enjoy it!

Summary: MATRIX....
Review: The Matrix combines catergories Science Fiction, Action, Romance ( well, not much, but I have to include it ) and some funny things that are serious. Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon is a total copy off of this movie which shows how big this movie is. I don't know why its rated R because its not that bad, but go with the flow. The story takes a few times watching it to get the whole concept though. Everybody has to love this movie. COOL!

Summary: One of the Best Movies in the Real World
Review: Sometimes you just don't know what words to use when you're writing something. Sometimes you trip over your tongue (or fingers) and just lock up. I'm not really sure how to begin this review; all that I can say right now is that everybody I know agrees that THE MATRIX is one of the best movies on the planet.

At first look, the plot is familiar enough; petty thief turned superhero, has to save the world while fighting giant robots and hacking into computer programs blah blah blah blah blah. So, if that's the case, why isn't THE MATRIX sitting on the shelves with a ninety percent price reduction like so many other movies?

A few words can answer that question. First, there's uniqueness. If anybody here can show me one movie like this one, I'll give 'em fifty bucks. (If they're lucky.) Don't even think about saying TERMINATOR. Yes, although both movies feature the same setup, they are NOT at all alike.

The second word that comes to mind is action. With most movies of this genre, yeah, you can probably expect three or maybe even four guys hunkering down with their peashooters and their water pistols and leaning around the corner of that bale of hay which provides them protection from even 12-gages to squeeze off twenty shots at a time without hitting anything. Not so here, my friends. In THE MATRIX, yeah, you get plenty of shots of heros and heroines packing a big wallop with twin Uzis. But you also get shoot-outs with men dodging bullets (for any gamers reading this, think MAX PAYNE), people jumping a hundred yards from on rooftop to another, and hand-to-hand combat like you've never seen before (John Woo did an incredible job). There's a reason that this movie won awards for the best fight scene of the year.

This superb display of action in other movies might leave little other room for the third and final word which sets THE MATRIX apart: plot. Yes, it's there all right.

Okay, so maybe you've heard this sort of thing before; guy meets old wise guy, old wise guy trains guy to blow the crap out of things with style, young guy with hair problems betrays them, etc. However, it's the style of writing that sets THE MATRIX apart most of all. Every character has a personality from Neo, the absolutely amazing hero, Trinity, the big-breasted, Uzi packing heroine, Morpheus (the aforementioned "old wise guy who trains guy to blow the crap out of things"), and Cypher (shudder....).

So. Does THE MATRIX live up to its praise? Yes. Does it break new ground in its genre? Oh yes. Should you buy it? Hmmm, let's think about this for a moment.

Heck yes.

Summary: Just another useless trendy sci-fi movie
Review: Is this what people have for sci-fi films these days? Why does every sci-fi film made in the 1990s need to be so excessively violent, gloomy and depressing? Not to mention trendy. It's quite obvious that this movie is geared for the so-called "slacker generation". Whatever happened to films that had real quality and didn't pander to the lower common denominator? Plot? What plot? It's just a series of confusing scenes thats seem to go nowhere. Visual effects? All the effects here are simply gross, nauseating, tasteless, and disgusting. Another thing I can't stomach of this movie is Keanu Reeves. I have to admit I found him quite amusing playing a slacker teenager on those two Bill and Ted movies, but here, he just sticks his pretty face in to the camera expecting the girls to drool over him, rather than doing the actual business of acting (like he did on Bill and Ted). The Matrix had left me with a really bad taste in my mouth. I had to watch Fantastic Planet the next day to cleanse my system of The Matrix. If you want some real sci-fi, try the aforementioned Fantastic Planet, or from someone much better known, Spielberg's Close Encounters of the Third Kind.

Summary: Incongruous Story Line
Review: If the creators had spent as much time on the story line as they did on special effects this might have been a pretty good SciFi flick. The characters are capable of morphing into "virtual reality beings" to survive various assaults but, for some curious reason, they fail to use that "power" to their best advantage. I'd rate the computer generated special effects, while not entirely flawless, as a seven out of ten. But the rest of the work appears fairly conventional with no real surprises for the viewer - more like a video game than a feature film piece.

Summary: Amazing Special Effects, But Trite and Inconsequential
Review: How this movie got in the top 100 on imdb.com is beyond me. Sure, it is a great visceral experience and a great show for eye candy, but it lacks a deeper message, characters we identify with, and it borrows heavily from the alternate reality laid out in the Terminator films. You all probably know the plot: Keanu Reeves is here to save the world. The machines will do anything to stop him. I saw an interview on TV with Joe Pantoliano (Cypher), and he said it was a religious allegory. I think it tries to be that, but Neo is a cyber-crook who just happens to discover his abilities, as opposed to Jesus, who knew who he was all along and did no wrong. Morpheus is supposed to be John the Baptist (minus the locusts), Carrie-Anne Moss is, well, I don't know. And Cypher is, of course, Judas. That might seem somewhat substantial, but more character development. The two hours breezed by, they could have taken a few more minutes with Neo or Trinity. Morpheus, the Agent, and Cypher were the best characters. Also the 'machines vs. humans' future, envisioned in Terminator, is given a twist here, and there is a liquid metal scene, I guess to pay homage. In the novel Catcher in the Rye by J. D. Salinger, Holden Caulfield describes a girl who, because she talked inteligently, couldn't be classified as smart or dumb. This movie is kind of like that. It is popular because it offered something new, but it also drudged out some old stuff too. In twenty years this film will be forgotten. But for visceral entertainment, it does pretty well.

Summary: Innovative, Original, Action-packed!! Keanu at his best!!!!!
Review: I thought the special effects of this movie was outstanding. The story was well-written, mindblowing, and very original. It got me to thinking that if we were really in a "Matrix" for real, "Would I want to be unplugged"?. I think this movie is definitely one of Keanu's best movies, and it will probably go down as one of the best movies of all time. I really loved the fight scenes because Trinity and Neo both rock the screen. I have never saw anything like "The Matrix", and I doubt if I ever will again.

Summary: GOODY GOODY GUMDROPS!
Review: There are few people who have not hear of this beloved movie, and even fewer of those who have that don't anticipate the 2nd of the upcoming trilogy.

This is a *perfect* example of what the first of three consecutive movies should look like! It has suspence in it for the next, but not so much that you end the movie feeling like you have missed out on a WORLD of knowledge. The story-line in it also made a very strong foundation for the next movie to build upon, which also gives viewers a look at what is to come.

I won't even touch the sound and video quality of this, as there are hundreds..nay..THOUSANDS of other reviews dedicated to that very subject-- which should tell you something on the movie's prosperity in itself!

Summary: Unfortunately, no one can be TOLD what the Matrix is...
Review: I have only one complaint for this movie. Keanu Reeves, Trinity and Tank have some pretty weak moments. That being said, I shall now give everything else about this movie (these qualities being so super a numerous that there is no question that it is five stars).

This movie will blow your mind. The special effects are more revolutionary than Star Wars, the action is suberb, most of the acting rocks, and the plot is spectacular. The plot, which I consider to be one of the most important aspects of a movie, is great because you can see both sides. I despise a movie in which the "bad guy" is completely evil without any cause. This movie shows that some people's personalities can be too weak to accept what is hard to believe, and to drive themselves back into their ignorant naive state, they would do anything. That sums up why this movie is so great. You can see the point of view of all sides, and the whole thing is enhanced by everything else in the movie.

Of course, I am not alone with my 5 stars. There are thousands of other reasons to buy this movie, that I won't bore you with. Because no one can be told what the Matrix is... you have to see it for yourself.
