Summary: I'm sorry...
Review: I absolutely hated this movie. I know that I'm part of the minority on this forum, but by far, this was one of the worst movies that I saw last year. I did see it in a theatre, and I actually wanted my money back.

I found the plot to be silly, the character underdeveloped, and the cinematography (while I understood the statement they were trying to make) to be... poor.

I guess that I just can't get into a knock-off of other sci-fi movies that is supposed to be wonderful because it is shot overexposed. But that's just me.

Summary: Nothing Comparable
Review: Please, please, please, do not compare this movie to 'Starship Troopers.' Starship 'Droopers' was geared toward the pubescent teenager; it had a comic book appeal with poor acting and an unbelievable plot. Pitch Black is a milestone in Science Fiction film-making. Not because of the acting...because, let's be honest, the acting wasn't that good...but because of the way it was filmed. The different colors and sounds that would truly be evident on a foreign planet, the thinning air, the different biologies of the creatures, all make this story believable. It reminds me of when 2001 first came out and people were saying "what the..." about it. I do fear, however, that something will be lost when those of you out there watch it on DVD or VHS. On the big screen it was highly impressive. On a smaller screen, I fear that much will be lost to the senses. This is definitely a movie of the senses.

Summary: Good Effects -- Not much else
Review: The special effects in this movie were fantastic, I would actually give it 1 1/2 stars, but don't watch it just for that. I found the plot to be ridiculous. Way too many coincidences to be believable. The dialogue was so poor that it was often a distraction from the special effects. If you want good FX, buy The Matrix.

Summary: finally something new....other then the "usual" alien(s)
Review: This movie realy kept me up. And it`s finally out for sale, but look at that price: $106.99 I guess I`ll be waiting for another few months until the price will drop. But this is the only thing I can say against this movie. Great action, great acting, the CGI vas very good. I will definitly look for this movie on DVD. If you like sci-fi movies with some horror, you shouldn`t miss this one.

Summary: A complete watse of time
Review: I must say, I haven't left a movie theatre feeling so cheated out of my money ever. It's been a few months since I've seen it, so I'll try to recount all my reasons of why I hate this garbage. Firstly, comparing this movie to the Alien series is an insult. Alien was actually entertaining. This is a classic example of a movie with little to no plot and all action. Sometimes that can be good (watch a Hong Kong Jet Li flick and you'll see what I mean) but in this case it isn't. It starts off with the crew of this ship still sleeping in these little hyper sleep chambers (can anyone say ripoff?) and their ship has an accident of some sort (I did say it's been a few months since I saw it) and starts to crash down on some planet. At this point the movie is already getting unrealistic. For anyone who's seen it, remember when it was crashing on the planet and there was a big hole in the hull? So here's this big hole in the hull things are flying out of it, and here's this loan crew member, holding on to a pole, his hair not even rustled by the wind. GIMMIE A BREAK! The movie is full of scenes like this, and it made me sick. They land on the planet and there are a few survivors. They find out that an eclipse happens once every 23 years I think was the number, and guess what? They landed on the day the eclipse happens! What are the odds? *sighs* Well after the eclipse happens, these aliens who can only stay in the dark come out and reak havoc. The action scenes here are boring and dull, and leave much to be desired. The bottom line is, this movie is boring, corny, and a waste of time. Watch one of the Alien movies instead, I'm sure you'll enjoy it a lot more. Don't waste your time and your money on this filth. You've been warned!

Summary: Pitch Black is spine chilling to the limit!
Review: When I first saw the making of Pitch Black, I wondered if it would be a film just trying to cash in on hollywood, I thought it would be a rip off of the film starship troopers. Watching the film overall is something completely different. Get ready for a tour deforce, this is si-fi at it's best, the action is good, but the story itself is what makes this film work so well on the big screen. I put this film on a par with alien, for true si-fi film making, the sound is good, the picture is exellent. With dts it will chill the socks off you. The title lives upto it's name "PITCHBLACK" as half of the film is in darkness, with weired noises from those creatures gives a chilling feeling running down your spine! go get the dvd as soon as it is available. Worth more than a five star review. Don't think that this is another big bucks hollywood movie, cause it realy is'nt, in fact half the cast is non american, with a couple of unknown actors, only the main character and keith david playing a muslim type character you will probably recognise. there will be most certainly a second movie in the making.

Summary: Sadly missed from the theatre
Review: I rate movies along simple lines. There are classics, there are flicks and there are horrible pieces not worth the film that they were printed on. I sorrily skipped Pitch Black in the theatre. The trailer was horrible. I couldn't make out *anything* about the movie and had no interest in seeing it. Thankfully, on vacation, I was holed up in a hotel that had Pitch Black on pay-per-view and decided to give it a try. I was stunned. Not only did I wish I had seen it in the theatre - to truly appreciate the special effects - but I enjoyed the quirky dialogue between the characters. I appreciated the seeming abandon with which character upon character is removed from the story line without my abilities of prediction serving me in the slightest. The dialogue is often cheesy. These people are space faring commoners and the movie revolves around the predicamnet they face and not their lives. Their lives form the substance to which I temporarily attached care for each. Short-lived as it may be, this care for the characters extended throughout the movie and left me feeling very satisfied. I recommend this movie as a flick. It should have been seen by all in the theatre but we weren't all so fotunate. Check it out by yourself and if you like it pull the friends around. Give it a chance. Van Diesel is what it's all about. You'll recognize him from Saving Private Ryan. The washed out scenes reminded me of Gladiator and Three Kings. The world as seen through the eyes of the aliens put me back in Fincher's Alien3. While ultimately the plot is fantasy I let this movie take me away, in much the same way we all let Star Wars (the first three) move us and Starship Troopers moved us (appealed to our collective bizarre fascist sensability or something). Have fun with it. I know I did.

Summary: best horror film of the year!
Review: pitch black is the best horror/sci-fi film of the year! it combines tragedy, drama, and imense horror. I would not recomend this movei for the faint of heart, because it will take you to a new level of scared, one that would make a even the bravest af movei-go-ers stay up for weeks.

Summary: Talk about "film noir!"
Review: Pitch Black rocks!! I went to see this picture expecting yet another Alien knock-off. Instead, I was treated to an inventive, visually stunning, genuinely frightening SF actioner in which the biggest twists and surprises were the changes that took place in the characters themselves as the story progressed. Even my wife liked it, and she doesn't like sci-fi gorefests. (Has never forgiven me for taking her to see Alien 20 years ago.) If you like SF/horror/action, this is not a "must see." It is a "must own."

Summary: Glad I caught the cheaper afternoon show
Review: Pitch Black really didn't do that much for me. It had a neat idea and some neat effects, but I never really compelled me. Sometimes I get caught up in the little details. How do these creatures survive if it never gets dark? What do they eat when no one crashes on the planet? If they're cannibals, wouldn't they have killed themselves? etc. etc.

There were no real surprises to keep the viewer interested. I pretty much knew what was going to happen before it did. Gee, the bad guy got loose, never saw that comin'. Oh, boy! I think this guys gonna get eaten. Told Ya.

It was a docile version of Aliens where you got the feeling that it wouldn't end as well, or be nearly as interesting. Save Pitch Black for the cable movie channels or the rental rack. If you want to buy a good alien movie, get the Director's Cut of Aliens.
