Summary: IV is Fun!
Review: Sit back and just enjoy the ride! This Trek is so much fun I have talked to non-followers of Trek and they love this one!I can see why.Best scene is in hospital with Dr. McCoy and 20th century medicine("My God man, drilling holes in his head is not the answer!").Spock trying to fit in by cursing is by far the funniest comic relief in any trek("Admiral, the use of language has altered since our arrival.") One of the other things that I like about this Trek vehicle is the excellent continuity. It is a bonafide sequel to Trek III-Search For Spock.Nothing is forgotten. Kirk and company still have to return to earth and face court martial for violations of Starfleet regulations.Whale special effects are incredible as well.Kudos to Nimoy for an outstanding directorial effort.

Summary: This movie is great.
Review: I believe this is the best Star Trek movie ever made, with "The Wrath of Khan" coming in second. Wonderful directing, acting, story, sound, everything. Put together very well, with good comedy (you didn't know Leonard could do comedy, did you?) and just enough drama to make the movie great. Though I admit the storyline is a little farfetched (they really could only pull that off in the movies), it's highly original and shows off Nimoy's creative talents as both writer and director. This movie is great. Buy it, you'll love it.

Summary: The most epic and fun Star Trek movie arguably the best.
Review: Leonard Nimoy lent his genious talent in directing this truly epic and succesful film in the Star Trek movie series and a favorite period among the fans of the almost 35 year old franchise and even among the people who saw it that weren't fans love it , it is as much everything that Star Trek it self is making you laugh while at the same time being emotional and serious and the one thing that is most famous about Star Trek old friends , that we know so well back together for another big

journey and this on is no acception as it proves to be there most challenging of this gallant crew.

The federation is in complete chaos as a sudden unanswerable probe that they seemingly can't stop or answer is threatning the entire world and draining it dry , the answer lies with the crew to try and find a solution to answer this probe. They find the answer in the probes language they figure out that the probe can be answerd by the sounds of Humpback whales but in there time period the whales have been extinct for a very long time , Spock suggest that the answer would be to travel into the past to 20th century and attemt to find Humback whales but when they do the surrounding prove to be even more challenging to them then mission itself as they confront punk rockers bus fare and exact change and pizza they seemingly confront these things in a way that Leonard Nimoy does that makes you laugh because they never know whats going to happen in this time and there reactions are so rediculous that you wanna crack up.

The answer lies in finding these whales with a fiery female marine biologist who cares for the whales very deeply and distrusts the Admiral but when she discovers that the whales have been shipped out to take there chances on there own she askes for the Admirals help in getting the whales to a safe place so they will never be in danger but there journey of finding them and getting them back safely will prove to be far more difficult than they could ever imagined.

For any Star Trek fan this is the coolest Star Trek DVD it shows you a feturette in the making of this truly incredible masterpeice its a must have for any Star Trek fan and an incredible legendary Star Trek film.

Summary: Good Movie, Bad "DVD"
Review: This is one of the better Star Trek movies, but my comment is focused on the DVD. All of the Star Trek movies are higher than the normal price and contain very little to no extra features. I believe Paramount is going to release these all again with extra features once everyone has bought these versions. Wait for the "Collectors Editions."

Summary: Bringing It All Back
Review: Like The Trouble With Tribbles,IV may not be the best(II tops them all),but it's certainly many fans favorite. What makes this film work is its humor as well as its warmth and heart. The cast look like they're having so much fun filming it, that it rubs off on the audience.Equally funny is seeing our beloved crew of the USS Enterprise, looking awkward and out of place in the 20th century. The movie is also fast paced as many obsticles(the Klingon Crystal depletion, the search for the whales in the ocean as well as the hospital scenes)pile up upon one another yet successfully resolving themselves.Subsequent film that try to replicate IV's formula end up looking clumsy(V and Insurrection)because they miss the point that behind great comedy is heart.

Summary: A Must Have DVD!
Review: This Star Trek movie was not impressive to me when I watched it on video. The other day I spotted the DVD on the shelf and decided to try it out. It turned out to be one of the best DVDs that I own. The features are fantastic and the widescreen animorphic that is missing from Star Treks 5 and 6 is finnaly present with this film making it all the more enjoyable to watch.

Summary: Fellow Trek Fans, Please Don't Get Mad at Me...
Review: Star Trek IV is my least-favorite of all the films. (OH MY GOD! Is this guy crazy? )

I know, I know! It was fun and original and blah, blah, blah. Im not saying I hated it, but I just don't enjoy this type of Star Trek story. I think the film is very funny, light, and entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed it when I first saw it. Unfortunately, the comedy aspects wear off in repeat viewings and you're left with a mediocre story with no real suspense or drama.

There are some priceless scenes, but many other parts of it are dull and slightly corny. The "science fiction" aspect of the previous movies has become more like "science fantasy" in "The Voyage Home".

William Shatner and Leonard Nimoy are fun to watch together, and the best parts of the movie are the 15 to 20 minutes where the crew splits up into groups to solve different problems. It's interesting to see the co-stars off on their own interacting without Captain Kirk leading the way.

Other than those high-points, this is pretty average. The DVD is weak as far as extras go, which I think is the main reason for buying them. The behind-the-scenes featurette is off the Director's Series VHS tape (which I own), so don't give Paramount too much credit!

Summary: Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home
Review: This movie is a smashing hit. The best Trek ever and brings the excitement of traveling through unexplored cosmic mysteries to your living room. The spectacular voyage back in time to 1986 San Francisco to find two humpback whales and bring them back to 24th century Earth and with a stolen Bird-of-Prey makes the plot so exciting, need I say more?

Summary: A Whale of a Good Time
Review: This is the most popular of the Star Trek films, in terms on box office receipts, but my favorite remains The Wrath Of Khan.

This film is lighter than most cinematic Star Trek offerings. Some of the sequels have attempted to capitalize on the humor presented here, but with less success. All of the actors are at their best here, particularly William Shatner, who has a deft comic touch. (The look on his face when he sees Nimoy swimming in the whale tank is worth the price of DVD alone.) The only complaint I have about this film is the score. Leonard Rosenmann's retread of Lord of the Rings grows more irritating with each viewing.

Paramount has done an excellent job of remastering the film for DVD. The picture quality on my laserdisc was very poor, with a grainy unfocused quality that made it appear that the print had been dragged across the floor. The VHS quality was even worse. On DVD the image is considerably sharper, colors are more vibrant without bleeding. The sound quality is also improved, and there is a track in French. ("Monsieur Spock?" "Oui, Capitan Kirk?") The trailer and behind the scenes featurette are a bit more than Paramount's usual skimpy offering on its' DVDs. But, more would be welcome, even if the price were higher. I read in an interview that Nimoy offerred to record a commentary track for FREE. Why didn't Paramount take him up on his offer?
