Summary: It isn't as bad as everybody would have you believe. Really.
Review: There isn't many people who like this film. Honestly, when I first saw it: I was like, "What the eff?!" But upon subsequent viewings, I became somewhat enamored with director David Fincher's style; he has since gone to notable films, SEVEN and THE GAME.

In a nutshell, ALIEN3 more or less negates everything Jim Cameron had established in ALIENS, and if you view this movie as a sequel you're gearing yourself up for disappointment. However, if you view this film as a science fiction piece with none-too-subtle religious undertones then you might be surprised to find yourself in for quite a ride.

The look of the film, the trademarked beautiful Aliens grunge, in pulled off quite well. The characters (mostly bald White guys with Brit accents) are a little hard to decipher to the passive viewer, but are quite earnest in their acting. Charles Dance and Charles S. Dutton provide some pretty cool roles (if a little heavy-handed in the latter case).

The religious undertones are there; and they may offend some ardent Bible-thumpers (I'm talking about the Christ-like death sequence)--but it's a nice change of pace for the ALIEN films. The first was horror. Second, war. Why not have the third be 'bout religion?

I think it works; but, hey, different squids for different kids (thanks, Steve, for that phrase). All in all: great cinematography, passable performances with a few gems, laughable story, 'bout two hours of late night or Sunday afternoon stoner entertainment.

Summary: Worst of the series, but not all that bad
Review: 'Alien 3' is certainly not the 'Citizen Kane' of the 'Alien' movies, but it fares pretty well for its plot. I think that this film got so much bad press because the first two movies were so good, and by comparison, this was just plain lousy. I do have to admit that this is the worst one of the lot, but it isn't so bad that I can't watch it like all the other films. Also, DO NOT see this movie without seeing 'Alien Resurrection.'

Summary: the ultimate heroics
Review: She shaved her head and died for her cause. That alien was toast. Need I say more?

Summary: Out of place.
Review: Some people say that David Fincher is the wrong director for this movie. In many ways, he is. The Seven director's gloomy style gives the movie a dreadful feel but destroys any suspense or intensity. But in a way, Fincher saved this movie from being total Hollywood crap --- the material is definately second rate, but his unique style made the movie more original and fresh. Even though, before renting this movie keep in mind that it is closer to a Star Trek episode than either of its predecessors.

Summary: just a poor movie
Review: I remember seeing an interview with one of the actors from this film (the head of the colony, i think) on David Letterman and even he agreed that the movie wasn't very good. Perhaps it could have been, but too much was left on the editing room floor and the result was a disappointing mess. I'll buy the first two DVD's, but as far as I'm concerned there is no Alien trilogy.

Summary: Not Bad, but the weakest of the series to date.
Review: After Ridley Scott and James Cameron had created two sci-fi classics in their own right, the limits of the Alien premise was all too apparent in the third installment. Although the special effects are excellent, the acting is great, with a skin headed Weaver delivering another extraordinary performance as Ripley, definately some shocks, a memorable final show down as well as moving ending, "Seven" director David Fincher was simply the the wrong man to direct it. His downbeat, gloomy style that was to work so well with his other films is out of place in the Alien genre and where as both Cameron and particularly Scott kept the tension on a knife edge once the creatures had made an appearence, Fincher lets it slack all to often. However its definately worth watching and does bring a more human approach to the series, even though it's a far cry from the two that went before.

Summary: Almost a masterpiece
Review: Yes I would agree, it could've been better. I am a personal fan of David Fincher, who did films such as Seven, Kiss the Girls, and The Game. In Alien 3, Fincher created the perfect mood, setting, and story. Yet, sadly, it lacked character development and special effects..(I HATE CGI effects, looks like a cartoon). But, in defense of Fincher, the original director's cut of the film did have some key scenes that completed the aspects of some of the characters and added some dramatic action, giving the film justice. Yes, Alien 3 was somewhat dissapointing, but, in light of films like Seven, it is a true masterpiece.

Summary: Haunting
Review: Although I enjoyed the first two (but could do without the 4th)ALIEN movies, ALIEN 3 is, I believe, the most satisfying film of the series. Love the opening credit sequence -- the best piece of pure film storytelling I've seen in quite a while. I've heard a lot of complaints about how this is another triumph of style over substance, but I disagree. This is the most mature and thoughtful of the series. I think one reason so few people like it is that it takes the themes and ideas of the series to their most horrific extreme and is, consequently, a terribly depressing experience. But it is also a fantastically accomplished movie and certainly better than we had any right to expect as the first film of an ex-music video director. Makes a terrific double-feature with David Fincher's second film SEVEN. A great movie.

Summary: Best of the series!!!
Review: Everyone who has criticized this film but is a fan of the alien series perhaps should watch the first three films back-to-back. After doing so, it was apparent that the individual directors had a tremendous impact on the type of film that made it on to the screen. Scott's Alien was ground-breaking and shocking in its originality and its visual style. Cameron's Aliens, although exciting and fast-paced, lacks the depth and complexity of the first and third installments. Generallly, those who like the second film praise its action, but I've always felt that the Alien series had a beautiful duality that is found in its ability to entertain while presenting profound underlying themes. Aliens was a b-movie, a very good b-movie that raises your heart-rate but never makes you think. Fincher's Alien3 was a tremendous success at finding a wonderfully daring dark pitch. The movie has an unrelenting pessimistic view of society and our world. David Fincher, although he was plagued by the interference of studio executives, still managed to take the series were no one else dared to travel. He showed real guts killing off both Newt and Bishop in the opening and Ripley in the climax. Any viewer whining for a happy ending missed the point of the movie and lacks the intelligence to grasp the beauty of the artistic vision which was truly realized through Fincher's eyes. P.S. Try watching the film while imagining the alien as a metaphor for the AIDS epidemic.

Summary: COULD'VE BEEN BETTER!!!!1
Review: When we last left Ripley, she tangooed with a queen alien which she blew out the air lock. Feeling coffident she killed all the aliens once and for all, Ripley goes into hypersleep with the lone survivors of the mission. It ain't long before she wakes up on an unknown planet, and more aliens are afoot!!! This is my least favorite of the alien series. Scifi/horror fans put this one aside.
