Summary: Worst of the series.
Review: The main bad thing in the movie itself is definately the swearing. The story is so bad because it kills off everything James Cameron did in Aliens. They kill Hicks and the little girl and Bishop ends up in dump.Another thing is how cheesy some of the dialog is.Also how in the heck did an alien survive from the second film? The queen could'nt have layed eggs because her tail was shot off and that is where the eggs are produced so this movie doesn't make to much sense.A sad addition to the great sci-fi series.

Summary: The perfect example
Review: Of how not to make a sequel in contrast to Aliens (which is a perfect sequel in that it manages to both stand on its own and as a satisfactory continuation of Alien), Alien teeny-tiny 3 establishes itself by undermining its predecessor. The decision to kill off the survivors of Aliens during the opening credits made a mockery of that film's intense climax which focused on rescuing the little girl. Not a good move, when you are providing a follow-up to a comercial and critical hit, because then you have to make sure that this movie will be even better. It also throws out the rules as to the nature of the Aliens. In the previous movies the facehuggers would be unleashed only when a being is in proximity of the eggs. (It was clearly stated in Aliens that the two rogue facehuggers had been torn from their victims' faces.) In this movie the facehuggers leave the eggs whenever they feel like it & roam around free.

Clearly, the first two movies should be ignored when watching this one. So, then, how does it stand on its own merits?

The answer is: It doesn't.

The pacing is slow, the visuals are murky, the plot is muddled. A leisurely, unpleasant tale of a lone survivor stranded on a prison planet plays like a bad, pretentious drama until the Alien finally arrives to start killing characters.

After watching this movie, the only question is: why didn't they go with their original instincts in Alien 4 and make this incoherent mess into a bad dream? That is a move which would have tied in nicely to the last line of Aliens (Newt:"Can I dream?" Ripley:"Yes, I think we both can.")

Summary: Dreadful
Review: Beware of favorable reviews - Alien 3 is, simply put, a mess. The film takes place on a weaponless prison planet where Ripley has crash-landed, conveniently bringing an alien with her (it impregnated Newt during transit). Now, it's a struggle to kill the creature before it wipes out the criminal population. In many ways, this is just a higher-tech rehash of the first Alien film. The writers have no idea how to tell a coherent, entertaining story. With the exception of a surprise or two, there isn't much worthwhile here. The storyline frequently doesn't make sense, with actions occuring for which no explanation is given. Direction, editing, and camerawork combine with the disjointed script to disorient and confuse the viewer. Given Fincher's background, it shouldn't come as any surprise that the movie looks like a music video. Plot inconsistencies abound but the worst part of this film is the killing off of Ripley's surrogate daughter Newt before the movie even begins, thus much of the emotional underpinning of the masterful 'Aliens' has been killed. A character with that much importance in determining the heroine's motivation does not deserve an off-screen death -- we were betrayed. And to add insult to injury, the writing team fails to come up with any engaging substitutes.

Without a doubt one of the worst combination of horror and sci-fi ever made.

Alien 3 is presented in an anamorphic widescreen transfer that looks fantastic. This is a very dark film, but the few colors are very detailed. There is hardly any grain, which is very surprising for a film this dark. This transfer looks better than the ones for the Alien and Aliens discs, but this is probably due to the fact that Alien 3 is a more recent film than the other two. The only flaw is that during the crew member bios near the beginning of the film, some information is cut off on either side. Although not as extensive a section as that on the Alien and Aliens discs, the extras section remains consistent with the content of that of the previous two discs. The only unique extra is a behind-the-scenes featurette about the making-of Alien 3. This contains interviews with cast members, as well as interviews with Ridley Scott, the director of the first film. The other extras are the original theatrical trailers for all four films and a trailer for the PC Game of Alien Resurrection. These trailers are also included on the other discs. The trailers for the first three films are presented in full screen and are of fairly poor quality. This is mainly due to the age of the trailers.

Summary: Dreck
Review: This obvious attempt to kill the 'franchise' should have been in 3D. Why did they kill off Hicks, anyway? Perhaps the filmmakers were they afraid someone interesting would be placed in the movie. This movie has no plot. At the end, the character's plan seems to be to run around in circles until enough of them are killed off to allow the movie to end, I was glad when the required number was met.

Summary: Refreshingly Original
Review: Why is this movie so good? Because it's totally different and original to any other movie (including it's 2 predecessors). Not only is the story original, but the style of the film is unique. The movie is atmospheric and has a feel all it's own, successfully portraying a very harsh and lonley environment, but in an artistic way. The Alien is new too, designed by the Original Alien artist H.R Giger. This (I believe) is the first time a computer generated alien has been used and it looks the best, most realistic (by a big margin) out of any of the 4 movies. The computer generated alien producesses complex movements and runs about on the ceiling like a creepy insect, none of which has been seen before.

The new Alien brings back the 'scaryness' that the original Alien has lost.

The acting (by everyone) is, simply, brilliant, and there are some funny scenes of subtle black-comedy. There is also good chemestry between the actors, with a good blend of English and Americans. The director, David Fincher has done an exceptional job. Everything combined makes one special movie.

Summary: Another good sequel, not as good as Alien and Aliens though
Review: This is a good sequel but it certainly doesnt measure up to Alien and Aliens. On their way home from the colony planet from Aliens there is a fire aboard the ship and they hyperspace section of the ship is released from the ship. It crash lands on a deslate planet inhabitated by prisoners. Ripley(Sigourney Weaver) is the sole survivor of the crash. Hicks and Newt die and Bishop is destroyed beyond repair. Ripley discovers that an alien egg was layed on the ship by the queen alien from Aliens. She also disovers she was impregnated by that alien. There is also more involvement by the company to preserve the alien, this time thats inside Ripley. Look for the real Bishop in a small part. This film is a good sequel. I was not disapointed with it, but i can see why others were. Its less action packed than Aliens, which I think let fans down. Not me though. I reccomend you see, I dont guarentee you will love it though. Rated R for strong language, violence, and more alien gore

Summary: Unfairly underrated
Review: Just as "Aliens" was a departure from the original,"Alien 3" has elements of the last two films but manages to work as an independent work with characteristics of it's own.

People who hate this film were obviously expecting another blast-the-aliens away-marines fest like "Aliens".Well, that has now been attempted in "Alien Ressurrection" and it turned out terribly.Personally,I would prefer a film trilogy with each film having it's own atmosphere and concepts, rather than a monotonous continuation (eg Back to the Future series).Alien 3 is a stylish, gloomy and fascinating addition to the series, and a logical conclusion.

It may not be a perfect film like it's predessesors but people who think it's not worthy of the series obviously don't understand the Alien saga.

Summary: The worst movie in Film History.
Review: I rate this besides the TV movie, Death of the Incredible Hulk, as a film that did not have to be made and ruined everything about the first two Alien movies. If you look at the climax of ALIENS, James Cameron brought the story full circle and ended. There is nothing in that movie which stated that a thrid movie was needed. Nothing at all. How was Ripley supposed to have been pregnated with the new queen Alien, did I miss something here? I don't think so. Please, treat this movie as having taken place in an alternate universe or something. Thank You.

Summary: If you liked "Alien" or "Aliens" - DON'T WATCH THIS
Review: The first two movies in this series, altough different in genre (horror and action) were very well done and and fit together perfectly. The first movie moved smoothly into the next and made for an increadible journey. The third movie destroys all of the work of the first two. It seems that the producers/director did not like having a happy ending for "Aliens". They killed off characters that you rooted for the entire film ("Aliens") without reason. They end up with a script that is just an ordinary slasher film. Creature chases good girl around huge building for 1 1/2 hours. The creativity and zest of the first two was lost. Do yourself a favor and skip to "Ressurection"!

Summary: Alien 3 - Great Sequal
Review: I dont know why everyone dislikes this film, i think David Fincher did a wonderful job ending the story with ripley. After seeing Resurrection, Alien 3 is one of the best sequals to the alien series (first being cameron's)

Resurrection completely ruined the whole series cause of bringing ripley back and also cause the setting didnt have that atmosphere like aliens and alien 3.

So to wrap this up Alien 3 is a great addition to the alien series, skip Resurrection all together since it hardly shows any aliens what so ever. I dont mean to totally put down Alien 4, but come on bringing ripley back was a mistake, he should have started a new story.

I hope Alien 5 (if there is one) is directed by Mr.Fincher or someone who sticks with the atmosphere of the series.

Alien 3 - 1 being worst, 5 best
