Summary: Spider-Man Spins Great Web
Review: I thoroughly enjoyed every minute of Spider-Man. Tobey Maguire was the right guy for that part. The story has a love base with Kirsten Dunst; some good laughs; a few tugs at your heart strings; and that vile Green Goblin made for lots of great action. I could tell by all those movie fans seated around me that they too enjoyed the show. Most were young high school and college kids. I can tell you I am no kid, I remember reading the Spider-Man Comic books when they hit the stands each month. I loved the hero then and I loved him in this movie. I heard that Maguire signed up for two sequels. I can't wait to see them.

Summary: It's as good as X-Men.
Review: Spider-Man and Sam Raimi's attention to being faithful to the character really exceeded my expectations. Almost everything about this movie works. Tobey's performance as Peter Parker comes across as very human. Kristen playing Mary Jane Watson was also good. So were Rosemary Harris and Cliff Robertson as Aunt May and Uncle Ben. DaFoe's Green Goblin was as evil as he should be. The music score by Danny Elfman was first rate. John Dysktra's visual effects created the world that Spidey lives in with a quite realistic look. This movie really had the look and feel of the Marvel Universe in every way. I will see this movie again as many times as possible. Bring on the sequal. In the tradition of STAR WARS and STAR TREK, SPIDER-MAN should also be added to that list of science fiction films which has caught the attention of a large movie audience.

Summary: Best comic book movie since 'The Crow'...
Review: Kudos to Raimi, and his entire staff. This movie hits right at the core of the comic and edits its tales of the Green Goblin craftily into a film. If you have never read the comic or are barely aware of the character, no fear; this movie has all the hallmarks of an excellent drama/action. There is love, abuse, transformation, death, tradgedy, consequence, discovery, hate, humor and action all brilliantly woven together to spin a modern legend. Infact, it's story made me appreciate how intense and thoughtful the comics were. This movie packs more into 90 minutes then most recent movies which revolve around badly composed stories with no heart or pacing. The criticism that the movie goes into tired web slinging at the end is ignorant since the action of the later half arises from the consequences of the first half, plus action is one of the hallmarks of the original work. The beautiful CGI camera tracking of Spiderman swinging through Manhattan is mesmerizing and handled perfectly. Raimi's comic book directing reminiscant of 'Darkman' and his classic movie uberpiece 'Evil Dead 2' while he can also tame the camera and composition into styles from his more recent dramas. He took posing of the characters directly from the older comics by Ditko, Romita, Buscema and Kane which give them a heightened drama through the expressionless veneer of their costumes. The actors are all really good in their roles, and while DeFoe might be hindered by the Green Goblin mask, a thin latex version might have had viewers asking why Peter Parker couldn't figure Osbourne's true identity immediately since DeFoe's face is rather goblinesque already. By cutting around the rather clunky head piece adroitly they avoid any real difusion of the character's potency. As the tale of a besieged loser transforming into a kind of secret demi-god finding greater good and tradgedy through the consequnce of his changes this movie plays perfectly. Every positive aspect is soon balanced by a greater negative then surpassed by a higher positive and so forth until the film ignites in moral dilemma and action abound. My only negative was the end credit music which was a mash of [sound]. Why not use the Ramone's version of the Spiderman cartoon from the 60's and perhaps fade in and out of instrumental and techno versions instead of a collection of pop tunes? Minor fault indeed. This movie should break box office due to it's amiable although tragic characters and well paced action.

Summary: WOW
Review: Many times movies come along and they look like they're gonna disappoint, especially if it has a cast that appeals to the MTV and teenybopper crowd. It's annoying, especially geeks like me, to see a favorite hero being portrayed by your typical teen movie star. Well, i saw the movie and IT ROCKED. I threw away everything i said in the beginning of this review right away. I thought the cast was great. Everyone was good in it. Toby McGwire is Spider-Man, i thought he would SUCK, he doesn't, he's great as Peter Parker and Spider-Man. William Dafoe was over the top, but fun as The Green Goblin. I'm not getting into plot because it'll piss off the hardcore fans who DIDN'T get to see the movie yet. Sam Raimi did a TREMENDOUS job directing the movie. Visual effects were top notch, even though sometimes they look fake, but it gives it the comic book feel. This beats Superman as my all time fav comic book to movie adaptation...

Summary: Matrix, Forrest Gump, Spider-Man
Review: Well. What do we have? Just another movie based on the books of comics? Just another variation of Superman and X-men? In some way - the answer is YES. Cause such books have a lot in common. But

But it is completely different. The main hero is not Superman or Batman. He is Spider-Man.

This movie is made in a very cool way. It is really fun. There is some romance here. It is not stupid as some other movies of such a kind. Director is really talented man with a great sense of humor. Actors and their characters are wonderful.

And besides everything - this is a story with a long long history. This is a story about the great battle of light and darkness. Who will win in this battle? The answer which gave us Spider-Man is LIGHT. So if U dont like this film just think about this thought. And PLEASE dont abuse this cool movie anyway.

Review: OK, this is not your Batman movies of the past it's the next chapter in bringing comic books to life, the plot was excellent, the effects were awesome, the realism of watch Spiderman swinging through the concrete canyons of New York City were on point. If you want the best exprience go in with a blank mind and let the movie paint the picture. I give it three thumbs up. Be perpared for a Spiderman 2, it will be coming.

Summary: Cool movie- Fun to watch!
Review: I just saw the movie yesterday and it's great! I'm not a comic fan so I don't know how closely the movie follows the actual comic. This movie tells the story of how Peter Parker, a nerdy (and therefore smart) kid, turns into Spiderman, the (probably still) smart, cool hero. Tobey Maguire is great as Spiderman because he looks good. I don't know- is it Tobey Maguire in the Spiderman suit too? Or is it a stuntman. Well whoever it is in there looks nice as well. The conflicts within Peter/Spiderman are also conveyed, as well as the "gift or curse" aspect. The special effects are really great to watch, probably the best part of the movie. It's just a really fun movie, especially the "swing from building to building" and the "launching spider webs" parts. Go see it for great entertainment!

Summary: Malaysians have seen it first !
Review: Cool, esp being one of the first to see Spidey in the world. A great way to spend Labor Day eve !

Tobey Mcguire great as usual gives us the sensitive side to any cartoon character.Former Ang Lee prodigy even kicks ass in Crouching Tiger/Matrix style action.

The social comments are subtle including the comment amount the state of worldwide unemployment when Uncle Ben was retrenched.
The semi cartoon like action of Spidey and The Green Goblin is a reminder of the surreal visuals seen in Dick Tracy which won an Oscar for cinematography.

Spidey is both entertaining and intelligent. Don't miss it !

Summary: Spiderman
Review: Good, ol' Spidey he's just fabulous. Yeah the movie is great, I think it is going to be a blockbuster. Toby Maguire, he fits in naturally into Spidey's character, he does not over act has a wry sense of humor with a controlled emotional element. He is the right choice, but Kirsten Dunst ( a good looker indeed) well I think she is there just to add a female sparkle. Her character requires more development, especially emotional impact, maybe in the upcoming spidey movies.

Technically I think the special effects are good but could have been much better. Some of Spidey's Swinging from building to building or crawl up the walls looked very cheesy and artificial, more cartoonish but let me emphasise it is only a few scenes. How Tobey Maguire (Peter Parker) becomes spiderman was portrayed quite well, but I sure wish they had shown how Peter Parker actually made his Spidey costume

The Green Goblin character build up was not dynamic and powerful enough to hate the guy. I think I felt some sympathy for him rather than treat him as a villain. The evilness was not powerfully evident in the Goblin's character and the premise of becoming the goblin needed more soul and realism.

I went to watch Spiderman without any expectations and I can say that overall I am pleased with the whole package. I would give it a four out of five. I would not categorise it as "par-excellence" movie BUT a great fun movie with entertainment.

Well, I'll just end by saying inspite of minor glitches it is a GREAT MOVIE, GOOD EFFECTS, EXCELLENT FIGHT STUNTS AND A SATISFACTORY STORYLINE.

DO NOT MISS IT!!!

Summary: Spider-man spins a complex web of humanity in characters
Review: An excursion to Columbia University science lab transforms the bespectacled Peter Parker (Tobey Maguire) with miraculous vision, sculpted body after a genetically-altered spider bits him. He possesses agility in leaping from skyscrapers and can spin webs from his wrist. Henceforth he assumes the identity Spider-man to combat evil manifested in the form of the Green Goblin (Willem Dafoe), a Species-look-alike perpetrator that terrrorizes the city with a glider that drops bombs.

Spider-Man embodies the heroics created by Stan Lee and Steve Ditko who had graced the popular Marvel Comics to become an comic icon as a crime-buster - and now the film further increases the fanaticism. It is a US 140 million blockbuster and gaudy with sleek costumes and galvanizing stunts. It is digitally-enhanced F/X to capture panoramic swings in its most realistic and The Times Square action-sequence is one of the most dazzling in cinematic history.

Yet the superhero adventure fails to surprise because of its conventional storyline of good-vs-evil. The self-discovery and mutation renders so much punch that the second-half falls relatively lack-lustre. Fortunately Spider-Man spins a complex web of humanity and empathy for the characters - and Tobey Maguire as the lead is the emotional core who captivates with his vulnerability in handling his growth traumas, doubts and fears. No less sterling is Willem Dafoe who is all hysterics and maniacal in his split personality inherited from the aftermath of a blundered experiment. Kirsten Dunst as his love-interest Mary Jane, James Franco as his buddy and even his uncle Ben played by Cliff Robertson show surprising dimensions.

Spider-Man is thus an evocative tale of a hero struggling with his adolescence, betrayal and murder. And Sam Raimi displays the same sensitivity here with his eariler works like Darkman with his flawed avenger. He directs it with eye-popping visuals like Army of Darkness and the comic hero resonates in its true-self. Its brooding hero is what makes Spider-Man a nifty web - and Maguire has definitely triumphed the cynics with his soulful spin.
