Summary: The One - Balance
Review: In reality Jet Li is The One, not Keanu Reeves or any hollywood actor who has recently jumped into the action market utilizing martial arts as his ally. I enjoyed this movie even though it was a bit slow at times but when you have a story about multi-dimensional universes and time, some people who are not up to par with this theory nor understand it will get utterly confused but if you are a sci-fi/Jet Li fan, you might like this movie. What I really liked about this movie is the 'ying-yang' concept Jet has incoporated into the storyline cause as we all know, The Rock was originally cast and when he couldn't do it and Jet took over, that concept became reality. The balance he spoke about during one scene when he was telling Jason Stratham about the energy within a circle was complete when he married his wife, his life was in full balance - now that is what I call cool and is absolutely true because one must have balance to live a good and happy life. I highly recommend it. Can't wait till it is out on DVD!

Summary: And in a movie all ABOUT range, Jet can't pull it off
Review: Van Damme tried to do it in Timecop. Schwarzenegger tried it in The Last Action Hero. It seems every action hero has to eventually face himself. Literally, by playing his twin. Jet Li decided to get a head start by doing this movie relatively early in his career.

I really didn't expect much of this movie. The plot is complex: 125 parallel dimensions exist. A member of the Multiverse Bureau of Investigation accidentally kills one of his alteregos in a parallel universe and discovers that he becomes stronger, faster, and more powerful. Realizing that, if he kills all of his multiple selves, this process can make him a god, he goes off on a killing spree in the most egregious example of self-loathing this side of sci-fidom.

WAY too many critics put this movie down for its special effects. Specifically, that the effects mimic the Matrix. So what? Seeing Jet grab two motorcycles, one in each hand, and smash a man to death with them is a thrill. He kicks cops out of thin air, dodges bullets, and jumps across buildings. That's the best part of the movie.

The problem is, Jet Li just can't act. Or I should say, he can't act well. The plot demands a lot of him -- this is a rare instance of a script being better than the actor can handle. Jet Li is supposed to weep over his wife's loss, act in multiple roles as his multiple selves, display rage, hope, madness...more than most people display in a year. Jet can't do it. His English is quite good, but he simply doesn't have the range.

And in a movie all ABOUT range, Jet can't pull it off. But that's okay, what he does is some amazing martial arts, demonstrates really cool special effects, and provides a funky plotline that inspired me enough to want to run a mini-campaign in this setting (maybe I will, hmmm). That's the highest compliment I can give any movie.

Review: Its seems no one cant beat up jet li maybe he should fight himself? One of the mnay jet li films I didn't like for one the whole idea of fighting himself was kinda retarded. It was cool to see something new from jet li the man himself but the movie didn't display alot of action just focusing on Timetravel and differen't events.Don't get me wrong its good but from the movie I expected to be better then it is.

Summary: Well...
Review: I love movies where a guy who can't act and is only good with martial arts because he's attached to wires fights himself in a series of long, drawn out scenes. Wait, no I don't.

The fight scenes were cool at first, until I realized some thing. They involve a man slowing down time and dodging bullets while using Kung Fu. Haven't we seen this some where before? Some thing that begins with "M" and ends with "atrix"? And wasn't there some thing in that movie about "parallel worlds" too...?

And don't give me that, "But the fight scenes looked cool!" spiel. Yes, they did, but if I had a guy in a monster suit walk around stomping on model cities and made it look cool it would still be a Godzilla rip-off. As a matter of fact there's one scene where Jet Li dodges a bullet and it looks so much like a mirror of the original scene that it's not even funny.

The story is full of problems. Why does Bad Jet Li shoot Good Jet Li right in the bullet-proof vest? Why can Bad Jet Li shoot some one with out even looking but he has a hard time shooting Good Jet Li while aiming? Why does a well-funded security organization in charge of keeping law and order in the multiverse send only TWO guys after a homicidal madman? Why didn't the agent guy just shoot Jet Li as opposed to talk man-to-man? And most of all...what the hell is Jet Li saying? I can barely understand the mumbling coming out of his mouth. Jackie Chan speaks better English in his film bloopers. I take it back, he said "No!" in one scene - I understood that.

If you want to see a stylized sci-fi movie with some cool (and unique) action, I point you to the underrated film "Equilibrium." Storyline isn't entirely original, but the acting is far better and you can actually understand the words being said by the characters. Otherwise, save your time.

Summary: Jet Li's best american film to date
Review: The one is a very innovative action movie. The slow mo an fast paced action sequences were very cool. The movie has a somewhat involved plot that the filmakers rush too quickly through just to get to the action. I feel that Jet Li is a wonderful actor, his english has improved with each American film that he has made. One great thing to see is that he finally has a love interest. He still has never kissed a woman in any movie I have seen. To people who have seem Jet in Asian movies like myself there still seems to be something missing in his american movies. If you have not really seen Jet Li before this movie should peek your interest. The film is good and I recomend it but how can any Jet li film live up to past masterpieces like Fist of Legend, fong sai yuk, or the Once upon a time in China series. Go see this movie just for the end sequence where each Jet Li fights with different kung fu styles. It is nice to see Martial arts done by a Martial artist.

Summary: Interesting background for Jet's Martial arts
Review: Okay folks, don't get your fruit-of-the-loom in a bunch about the plot, storyline or try to review this movie from a Shakespearean angle. It's a Jet Li movie for crying out loud. I thought the universe jumping renegade idea was unique and the people who brought you this movie put a lot of effort in it. The DVD extras shows this and you can't help but be impress. Now back to the movie, I found it really entertaining from an action junkie's point of view. It's a thrill watching Jet handcuff half a dozen Los Angeles Sheriff's officers like he was knitting a sweater. The finally fight is awesome with the good versus evil Jet Li's. He moves so effortlessly that it makes sense that he's not very tall and not very muscular. He easily runs circles around much taller and more muscular opponents. He looks great in this movie. The space age, high tech background to his martials arts was kinda different and it keeps Jet fresh and interesting to his devoted fans, but I can also imagine him winning a few Trekkie fans with this movie. Jason Statham and Delroy Lindo as Multiuniverse policemen was also a nice touch. Statham did a pretty decent job with the American accent and Jet spoke more words in English than his previous American movies. He sounded better than I expected. Carla Gugino, the mom from Spy Kids, appears breifly as Jet's loving wife. Their relationship adds a human side to this story, but I thought it could have been more physical and she could have played a bigger role. I often wonder why Jet never kissed any of his leading ladies, even though he is able to convey a certain romatic side on screen as evident in "Romeo Must Die". Whenever the script calls for a love interest, the relationship is presented in a subtle way, but Jet's face is so expressive that maybe that's all that is needed. With this movie, I've difinetly became a solid Jet Li fan.

Summary: Who cares about the multiverse
Review: Terribly boring. I tried my best to like this as a Jet Li fan, but couldn't. If being bored could make you cry, then I'd have to setup a dam outside of my house.

Summary: Jet Li's Best Movie IMO!
Review: To me, this is the best thing Jet Li has done! He plays not just one charactor, but two as the main charactors, and a bunch of others...all which are himself (his charactor)! As confusing as that might sound, if you watch this film it will make perfect sense!

This is not just a action packed martial arts film. The story is great and original! It basicly evolves around paralel universes, and one of Jet Li's charactors in another dimension is a bad guy who in his wolrd has the ability to travel to other dimensions, and when he's there he kills the him of that paralel world and he gains there energy which makes him stronger and stronger, and the more he does it, the stronger he becomes! But the problem is, its also beeing shared with another paralel version of him in our world! And when it comes down to only 2 dimensions left, Jet Li is not only the good guy, he is also the bad guy! HE faces himself and the battle is on..... this is a great sci fi action martial arts film that you should really enjoy and find unlike any other film!

Summary: the one
Review: Jet Li is awesome in The One. the action is well very coreographed and brutal at times (not make you cringe brutal, but say "oh man!" to yourself brutal) the begiinning scene where Li is at the prison and beats up the guards in slow motion with that song from disturbed blew my mind. unforgettable. as an action flick, this movie gets five stars. if i were to rate this movie on a normal grade base though, i would give it a 2.5 the story is pretty average, and reading the script would put you to sleep. the action is decent, but hey whatever. action fans, pick this up as soon as possible! everyone else, take a second thought
