Summary: Alien Maclachlan
Review: This is one cool flick: lotsa heavy metal, car chases, gun play, strippers and gory alien invasions of human bodies!! It has a real plot too!! Great cinematography, and Kyle Maclachlan as the alien (concealed in human form as well, of course!) pursuing his enemy is hilariously innocent of human behavior, but intent on his target. Check out this one!

Summary: Kill Those Smarmy Car Salesmen!!
Review: This movie takes a tentacled stab at the Human Race. A great sense of humor throughout the film. Wild special effects. Surprised faces on nearly everyone in the movie! If you need a worthy SCI-FI flick for your collection this would be a good choice. Very re-watchable for the [gory scene/surprised faces] laughs alone.

Summary: Like Richard Laymon's FLESH, a Fun and Fast Film
Review: What happens when a very good detective comes up against the nearly inexplicable? Well, in The Hidden you get a pretty good idea.

For two weeks the city has been plagued by a vicious criminal. Prior to that, the man had been a normal law-abiding citizen. But as the police finally nab him in a big opening chase scene, an FBI agent shows up looking for him.

For some reason, the fact that the man is dead does not end the case. The FBI agent is now looking for someone else who supposedly worked for him. And then they are looking for someone else.

Are these people possessed? What is going on? Why is the FBI agent personally involved? All these questions and more are answered throughout the course of the movie. The plot is actually quite complex as we slowly learn what is going on. There was so much packed into this film I thought it must be at least three hours. Few movies can pull off that sort of packing. Add to the plot a very healthy dose of action and you get a really interesting film that never has the cheap feel of a B-movie.

Summary: Life in the Fast Lane
Review: What's not to like about this movie! Alien zips around L.A. in a series of stolen Ferraris with classic 80's punk music blaring over the radio. Pursued by another alien, a cop out to revenge the murder of his family and partner. Mega shootouts, lots of guns, rocket launcher, and even a flamethrower.

Kyle McLachlan (alien cop) and Michael Nouri (human partner) both play their parts with understated humor. Claudia Christian has a classic bit part as Brenda the stripper - that pose outside the club in her red go-go boots is awe-inspiring.

The plot is basic run-of-the-mill science fiction, as the bad alien passes from one human body to another, satisfying a hungry appetite for drugs, violence and fast cars. The movie transcends the mundane because of its subtle humor and commentary on the mores of the times. Sex, drugs and rock 'n roll - just what every alien (and human) in the galaxy really wants.

Definitely fun entertainment.

Summary: Don't trust anybody!
Review: What's that, you haven't heard of "The Hidden". Well I'm not surprised. I only discovered it by accident and was overjoyed to find another top flight Science Fiction film. It is difficult to pin down exactly what makes this film so good. Obviously a low budget flick, it still manages to grab your attention at the completely sociopathic actions of the bad guy.

The story concerns a cop and an FBI agent's attempts to track down a series of criminals. Each criminal has exactly the same M.O. which is a characterised by rampant hedonism and a complete disregard for the value of human life, including their own. As it turns out these criminals are all the one basic bad guy, a parasite from outer space. He can support a human body beyond the normal point of death but past a given stage is forced to vacate the host and find another.

Our heros have a difficult time capturing him due to the body switching. Eventually things start to heat up as the alien decided he wants to enjoy the privileges of being president and so takes steps to inhabit one of the presidential campaigners.

"The Hidden" includes some touching scenes with the cop's family as well as some graphic ones depicting the violence of the alien. It is a movie in the tradition of the "B" grade sci fi genre but takes it's subject seriously. Check it out, I think you will be pleasantly surprised.

Summary: Read the original...
Review: Written for a more naive American culture, 20 years earlier, Hal Clement's "Needle" could be the inspiration for this flick. The movie is a fun rendition of the alien-cops-and-robbers-on-earth theme but the original story has a lot more suspense and intrigue.
