Summary: All Your Base Are Belong To Us
Review: Although it's been a long time in coming, Epsiode I has finally made it onto DVD and we can only hope that originial triology will follow soon.The quality (sound, picture, etc) is simply amazing. It makes the experience of watching such a fine film even more enjoyable. If you haven't had the chance, watch the DVD on a complete surround sound system and see if you can hear the difference. Its quite spectacular. Anyone who has anything truly negative to say about this film isn't a true Star Wars fan, and probably wouldn't be bothered to buy the VHS in the first place.

Summary: Worst Film I Have Ever Seen
Review: This film defines boredom. How anyone could love it is beyond me...much less watch extras about the hideous making of a cinematic atrocity. George Lucas has directed the dullest film ever. EVER. I wanted to shut this thing off twenty minutes into it and forced myself to watch it. It is even more boring than 2001: A Space Odyssey...and that is next to impossible. But of course what can you expect from the man who brought the world such trash as Willow and Howard the Duck. I HATE this film and am so glad that SHREK is outselling it on DVD. I would rather watch Chesty Morgan movies ad naseum than to ever sit through this void on celluloid again. Anyone who likes it is welcome to it but don't ever try to go on a date with me. I'll send you packing.

Summary: Weak script was the real menace
Review: A lot of sound and fury... signifying NOTHING. The first clue that Lucas didn't have a compelling idea for this film was the mind-numbing "crawl" at the beginning of the film. The Pod Race: nothing more than a vapid video game on the big screen. J.J. Binks? More annoying than the Ewoks. Let's get back to the great storytelling and human dimension of the first two films!

Summary: Attack of the Moans
Review: I love the STAR WARS series. I had huge expectations for PHANTOM MENACE and was definitely let down. Now that it's a few years later and the DVD has finally been released I still don't like the film. It's not horrible. The most watchable parts of the film are the final battle and the Senate scenes. For me, PHANTOM is successful in its effects, costume and set design, and political intrigue. Lucas awed me with the Gungan battles and hooked me with his political intrigue. PHANTOM left me wanting more in the acting, story, and construction of the plot. The bonus/cut scenes are interesting, but not revelatory. I'd heard about the Greedo scene and thought that it read quite well in script form. After seeing it on this DVD, though, I still believe that Lucas did a poor job directing his human actors and staging their scenes. The effects in PHANTOM are incredible and the pod race is amazing. However, if you don't care about the characters then you don't care how fast they are going and if they may crash! (i.e. the "Luke-and-Leia-on-speeder-bikes" scene in RETURN OF THE JEDI may not have been as technically advanced as the Pod Race -- however, I actually WORRIED that they might get hit by a tree. I can't say the same for Anakin in his pod.) On a positive note: The documentary on the 2nd disk is a lot of fun and illustrates how hard it is to bring these films to life. The DUEL OF THE FATES music video is nice as well. And the animatics are very interesting to watch. I am a fan of George Lucas and believe that he was trying to push some bounderies on PHANTOM MENACE. Every artist needs to grow and try new things (in his case: new technology). I also believe that he was still finding his "voice" after being away from directing for so long. I have some hopes for ATTACK OF THE CLONES -- although not as high as my PHANTOM expectations. I am grateful to Lucasfilm and Mr. Lucas for the DVD. I think they've done a great job and as a long time fan of STAR WARS am appreciative.

Summary: Please edit this movie!
Review: Even showing up on DVD couldn't save this movie. It's too much for kids. Jar Jar's antics annoyed the heck out of me and got downright ridiculous. Why couldn't anything be done on purpose. I think little five year olds still would have liked Anakin and Jar Jar if they killed a droid on purpose. Anakin destroyed a whole Droid Control Ship and saved the day on accident and Jar Jar couldn't even pick up a weapon and fight droids invading. He did it all with his clumsyness which made the movie sooo unbelievable. The droids didn't even seem like a threat when no Gungans died and thousands of droids did. Crazy isn't it. It's not like I wanna see good guys die, but where's the threat if none do. Look at Return of the Jedi or A New Hope, many got killed trying to take out the Death Star and you were left wondering, "are they gonna do it?". The fighting scenes with Darth Maul were awesome, best parts. Episode 1 basically represents Star Wars since it is supposed to be watched first. Not a good beginning to the saga. Too much of a little kids movie and it brought down Star Wars. You go from the threat of the Rancor and the Wampa monster over to Jar Jar. Oh well, Episode II: Attack of the Clones looks AWESOME! But so did the trailer of The Phantom Menace.

Summary: Satisfying and very underated
Review: This is one of the most underrated films I've ever seen. In Star Wars things it seemed very worthy. It tells the beginning in which how Darth Vader started out as Anakin Skywalker. New characters, and planets were introduced. Also, Jar Jar Binks is quite a character. With him, he's either hilarious or stupid. (I chose hilarous). Lots of original ideas and stunning special effects. Those destroyer droids are a big"wow!". You know, they shot and put the sheilds on. Amazing, how the Jedis, defeated the battle droids, so easy and Lucas must have had fun trying to show how he could show the Jedis destroying them. The podrace was nifty, too, and seemed original in the mountian clashing and those nutty sandpeole trying to shoot them. They were funny. So if you're a Star Wars fan, please see this prequel! It's very worthy! It's amazing, whether it's the gungans satisfying throwing the blast ball things at the droids, or the starting to build C-3PO, it's worthwhile. My only complaint is that it is a bit overplotted.

Summary: Lucas does it again
Review: I originally bought this movie on VHS and tried to watch it on my 53 inch HDTV and had to stop it because the quality was terrible. Low grade tape made it look worse than is I recorded it off TV. So then I get the DVD and more of the same. The transfer was terrible the picture was digitized. The text for alien languages were jagged. Just terrible. So I'm sure Lucas will now release a superbit version so we have to buy it again and he gets more money.

Summary: it's about time
Review: The extra features are great on this DVD and it's just time that Lucas decided to release one... While I can't say that the movie is the best of the SW family, I do appreciate more and more with every viewing (I suppose that I internally edit out the parts that I dislike and examine the best parts more closely).

Review: For years I've been waiting for this DVD! I've dreamed about it almost every night up until its
release! This DVD is truly the Holy Grail of DVDs! A MUST HAVE FOR DVD FANS AND STAR WARS FANS!!! If anyone here disses this DVD, they are NOT a true fan! This is one of the greatest movies EVER! If you don't have it, GET IT!!! Not only is it a great movie all in itself, the DVD features are to die for! The Commentary is EXCELLENT!

The Deleted scenes are breathtaking!
The Duel of the Fates Music Video is unbelievable! Like with all DVDs, Episode I has its share of DVD Easter Eggs! Just go to the Options menu on Disk I and type in "1138", as in THX 1138! The only other thing I can say about this DVD is this, BUY IT! BUY IT NOW!!! May the Force Be with You!

Summary: A Wonderful Beginning
Review: Like many other 30something year olds, George Lucas was the author of all my childhood fantasies. I saw Star Wars Episode IV when I was 6 and was completely blown away. No movie has ever had the same impact on me. With the release of Episode 1, George Lucas had the daunting task of trying to recreate the experience we all had in 1977. There is no way this film (or any film) could live up to those expectations. I have chosen to view Episode 1 on its on merits and find it to be brilliant, wildly entertaining, and ground-breaking in its use of computer generated effects. The DVD is the best I have ever purchased. It provides a plethora of extras which are extremely insightful and enjoyable. I know there are many Phantom Menance "bashers" out there, but true Star Wars fans will "get it".
