Summary: Good movie, so so DVD
Review: The movie I'd already owned, in VHS format. I liked the movie. I think this trilogy is less about the characters and more about the world that they live in, and thus the movies focus on that. Also, it's about an 8 year old boy - so it's written that way. It's not nessisarily an adult movie. And when I look at these facts, it becomes a better one for me. I was vaguely dissapointed that there wern't more cool features that came with the DVD, but just getting it was enough for me. I figure when he releases all 6 in 2015 (my safe estimate!) it will be a vast improvement.

Summary: Phantom Menace...Better than we dare to admit
Review: What we were really expecting out of George Lucas? The truth is that to be fair and honest, most people who were not satisfied with this movie are in the mid 30's and 40's and gradually throught the years developed an aura of mysthicism of the entire Star Wars saga.

If we go back to the original films will see that R2D2 and C3PO were the comic relief of the series just as the small and ridiculous koala bears look-alike were in the Return of the Jedi. Are we being too hard on Jar Jar? As far as I know, Jar Jar seems to be ok with 21st century kids.- Are we getting old?

As for acting, Mark Hammil is a terrible actor who never got a significant starring role afterwards and the script, why are we being so hard on the current cast?

Bad news for all of us in our mid thirties and forties. This movie was made for the "BARNIE" generation, not for the "Mr. Rogers" generation.

Yes, I would certainly purchase a "Less Jar Jar" special edition as we all seem to agree on this point as for the rest, acting, editing and directing is as good or as bad as the original Star Wars. Soundtrack for the Phantom menace is superb!

The DVD is packed with features, crisp clean images, excellent soundtrack.- Excellent value

Summary: wow.but there's something missing.
Review: it's a good movie. The music's almost perfect for the storyline, the plot is awsome, but this is part of Anakin TURNING TO THE DARK SIDE??????????????? Heck, the only part that gives you a clue is when Yoda says to him "I sense much fear in you." It doesn't seem like all the other movies though.Like it's part of the series. It can be funny at times.VERY seldom times. The only part that seems like it's connected is when Qui-Gon dies in Obi-Wan's arms.Just like when Anakin (not Darth Vader for that short period) dies in Luke's arms.On with the good things. The lightsaber battle between Obi-Wan and Qui Gon vs. Darth Maul is the most exciting one ever, closly followed by episode II's. The only boring parts are on Coruscant with the politics. And I LOVE every part that has something to do with fighting. The fight scenes are the best.
note- for everyone who believes so,Darth Sidious is NOT (if I could it would be underlined and bold letters too)Chancellor Palpatine. If you don't believe me go to starwars.com and go to the characters section.Look at Chancellor Palpatine (or if I'm wrong they might have Emperor Palpatine) and look at Darth Sidious.Read both of thier profiles and then you'll see..................

Summary: Good Movie, Great DVD
Review: I am an avid "Star Wars" fan! I have been since I was a young kid. Now even I will admit that "Phatom Menace" was not up to par with its three predecesors! But it was still a good movie, I don't know where people get off saying that it "sucks" It is a good movie! But the best thing about this DVD is the bonus disc of features! The extras on this DVD are the best that I have ever seen! The "making of" documentary is the most interesting one I have ever seen. If you love "Star Wars" you will love this DVD, it is well worth it!

Summary: A great DVD, perfect for any collection
Review: This 2 disc set is one of the best available, not to mention its a Star Wars movie. The picture and sound are fantastic, espescially when viewed and heard on a high def. 57" widescreen with surround sound. Each lightsaber strike is crisp and clear, as though it were happening live in front of you. The second disc has tons of special features including deleted scenes, movie posters from around the world, extended scenes, and the music video for "Duel of the Fates". Though this might not be considered the greatest of the Star Wars movies, the movie is dramatically enhanced when viewed on DVD.

Summary: Well, I liked it...
Review: Let's get one thing straight. I'm not saying this is the best movie I've ever seen - far from it, but I did feel it was a great film, remaining loyal to the Star Wars ethos, and leading old fans and new alike deep into a story, which (espeically after seeing Episode II), is deep and compelling.

One thing the die-hard fans of the original are forgetting is that George Lucas's main objective was to lure a new generation of fans with his breathtaking battles, gobsmacking visals and incomphrehensively impressive lightsabre duels (I don't care who you are, you have to admit the final battle was SPECTACULAR).

The plot was involving enough, and the acting was of a reasonably good quality. OK, it could have (and, in some people's opinions, should have) been better, but it's good in itself. And maybe that's what people should remember.

Summary: High Quality DVD, Extremely High Potential Movie
Review: As I say every time I am asked about Episode One, "the movie was great, but..." Some things within just were not right, especially not for my favorite movies of all time, Star Wars. I couldn't watch this movie more than twice in the theater, which is very odd ( I have seen Episode II 7 times and Spiderman 4, along with 3 times for many other movies) and only watched it once on VHS. Two years passed without my watching it, as people's opinions and the inability to skip over some parts
(see: any part with Jake Lloyd interacting with Ahmed Best)left me with a bit of a bad taste for it. But, I heard the DVD was good, and well, it DARN WELL IS!
The movie still has the best lightsaber battle ever and the prettiest effects ever seen in any film, and the pacing is not nearly as bad as I remember. I think that Episode II actually made this a much more enjoyable film, as you care more about the characters than you did going into Episode One. The movie has four BIG flaws (Jake Lloyd, Jar-Jar, Mediclorians, and the whole 'Anakin is Jesus' thing) but it also has some extreme positives ( Queen Amidala, Obi-Wan, the Emperor Palpatine, and oh yeah, Darth Maul). So watch it again after you have seen Episode II, you will find yourself pleasantly surprised at how much better it seems now than it did then.
But the quality of the DVD likely plays into that somewhat, as it is just spectacular. The sound is unbelievable, trust me, UNBELIEVABLE! Your speakers will be rocking to this one, and it makes the action scenes much more exciting when your house shakes after an explosion. The Video quality is flawless, the movie looks twice as pretty as it did in the theater, and I finally was able to appreciate the quality of the special effects, which were incredible now that I see them in such detail. Matrix better effects, you've gotta be kidding me!
The extras are the icing on the cake, though, especially the extended pod-racing scenes, which should not have been cut from the movie. The featurettes are extremely well-done, especially the segments on the fight choreography and the costume work, since this movie still has the most creative costumes ever. The TV spots are really nifty, especially the tone poems that are quick and exciting ( Queen Amidala's being my favorite, of course). The bloopers you can access are pretty funny, too, that R2 bot they use sure is a piece of crap( but lovable).
Overall, the most high-quality DVD I have ever seen, and a very entertaining, if flawed, movie. I just can't wait for Episode II to hit DVD, especially if they put in the Yoda double-saber fight that was cut. So, while it is the worst film in the Star Wars cannon, it is still in my top ten and one of the most easily watchable movies ever made. Buy the DVD, watch it, and think of the other SW movies receiving this treatment, don't tell me it doesn't make you smile.
DVD Rating: 5/5
Episode ONE movie rating: 4/5
Episode TWO movie rating: 110% ( I know, there is no number over 100%, but that's how much I like the movie

P.S. Stop making fun of Return of the Jedi, so the Ewoks weren't cool, they were only in the movie for ten minutes!

Summary: no luke
Review: Okay I am a loyal star wars fan and I enjoy all the ..., knockoffs, and/or spinoffs. This however isn't one of those. I remember the "original trilogy" and when I was 6 or 8 I asked " daddy, why is star wars backwards?" But I could never get a direct answer.

You see the reason that everyone thinks episode 1 is stupid is that Luke Skywalker doesn't prance onscreen. Every one is used to this whiny personality that he had. I appreciate Mr. Lucas for not including his personality in any of these characters.

Of course, no movie is perfect. There are flaws. Like why does this movie seem to last 1 hour instead of the Star Wars classic length 2 hours? Why does Maul only have 2-5 lines in the movie?

The lightsaber fight is awesome. It would make any Bushido Japenese Katana weilding master jealous. ...

Summary: Hopelessly overwrought [junk]
Review: Hopelessly overwrought [junk]. Visually beautiful, though. Time for Mr. Lucas to pass the torch.
