Summary: Horrible Boring Movie!
Review: This movie (which I bought for a ridiculous price of 19.99) is the worst movie ever! It bored everyone in the house to the point where we had to turn it off. It was all dream sequences, and no action. The acting was horrible. Don't but it, don't rent it, stay far far away from it. I should have read the reviews on Amazon before I bought it.

Summary: Slow and Plodding
Review: This movie could have been great,but they had to stray from the comic book orgin with a crazy story about Banners dad blowing stuff up and injecting himself with the chemicals that are passed to his son and help create the Hulk. This is all found out through split screen antics and alot of flashbacks that detract from the film. The movie is at its best with The HULK in action,his c.g. persona is quite beliveable and the action scenes are great. The actor playing Banner was mis-cast. He seems unlikeable from the start and we are tormented ourselves as we keep flashing back to his childhood. The first 40 miniutes are wasted why they try to describe all of this and how the HULK was created. I swear, the guy playing Banner was as stiff as a board in his acting except when we were treated to the transformation of The HULK. Good and bad.

Summary: Hulk DVD worth the buy
Review: Two points I'll make. 1. Ang Lee is a genius
2. This is a dark movie Ang Lee brings comic book sensibility to the big screen in the best way possible. Never before have you seen a movie done this way. Yes, this is a dark film. Yes, it deals with serious subjects. But that's the Hulk right? Yeah, he's a comic book classic, but he's also a metaphor for humanity itself. This movie got dissed far too much last summer, hopefully this DVD release will change a few people's minds.

Summary: Mean and Green
Review: This movie was a movie that I was very excited to see and I was not disappointed. The beginning of the movie moved a little too slow for me, but it wasen't worthless dialouge. This movie does a good job of showing how troubled Bruce Banner really is. Eric Bana does a great job as Bruce Banner. He really does a good job of portraying him the way that he was in the comics. Jennifer Connelly plays an almost too serious Betty Ross. For those who say that the Hulk looks too fake, you need to get your eyes checked because these special effects are amongst the best I've seen. I doubt that there will be a sequel, although I would like to see one or two. A little too long, maybe needed some humor and Nick Nolte's character was annoying. Otherwise a great movie.

Summary: Massive story overwhelms characters in Lee's Hulk
Review: First the bad news; many times The Hulk looks like a CGI character. It's not likely that CGI actors are going to replace human ones anytime soon. While the CGI Hulk was able to do amazing things (leaping tall buildings in a single bound anyone?), he was never involving the way a human actor could be. Nick Nolte was waaayyy over the top as Bruce Banner's Dad. Ang Lee's film is too long at 2 hours and 18 minutes. Given the density of the narrative, it's clear it probably couldn't have been done in less time but with less subplots, the film might have worked a bit more effectively. I'm not saying too much plot is necessarily bad but it is when the central character and main story gets lost in the process. Now the good news--The Hulk, despite it's many flaws, is an ambitious, interesting drama that provides a fresh spin on the Frankenstein story. While the film is hobbled by having to explain the origin story, Banner's childhood and the central conflict between Banner, the government and a mysterious multinational corporation (represented by Josh Lucas in a wonderfully oily performance), Ang Lee still manages to invest considerable emotion into this action drama. Although Lee isn't always successful at merging the action comic book genre with the Greek tragedy at the core of the story, I have to give him kudos for the effort. Eric Bana gives a nicely shaded performance as Bruce Banner. It's clear that Bana is no fluke and is definitely an actor to watch. Every performance he's given has been distinctive and powerful. This is no exeception. Jennifer Connelly's dramatic talents are a bit wasted as Banner's ex-girlfriend fellow scientist. She gives a good performance but is little more than window dressing for much of the film. Josh Lucas is marvelous as Banner's evil doppleganger. His role, like Connelly's, is a bit underdeveloped given all the story crammed into this two hour plus feature. Sam Elliott gives a crisp, tightly wound performance as Connelly's father. He make a convincing military commander. Nick Nolte is a loon. His character looms over the film like a bad odor. It's clear that he's the catalyst for much of what occurs and Nolte clearly relishes playing the role over the top. Still, I had difficulty having much sympathy for him. He's not misunderstood just crazy as all get out. Bruce Banner is a charming, brilliant scientist who has developed a new technology using nanobots to improve human health. His research has its dark side as well; there's considerable risk and dark military applications as well. During the course of an experiment, Banner sustains a blast of gamma radiation when he tries to save another researcher. While Banner should be dead he isn't because the blast of gamma radiation released the mean, green guy The Hulk. Turns out that Banner's real father was a scientist tinkering with genetics. Banner's father altered himself as part of his experiment and, in turn, Bruce. Daddy managed to turn himself into a monster and his poor son in the process. Now the military commander overseeing his Dad's experiment becomes involved in Banner's world as well. Seems the military commander's (Sam Elliott)daughter is in love with Banner and working with him. Papa didn't like Banner before and likes him even less when he finds out he's the son of Banner senior. The DVD looks great. Lee's stylized comic book panels look better on television than they did on the big screen for some reason. The resolution is sharp and there's few digital flaws marring the transfer. The sound makes full use of the 5.1 format. The extras are included on both the first and second disc. There's a feature length commentary by director Ang Lee and also behind the scenes footage available to watch during the film when the extras icon is activated. There's also a number of deleted scenes (some completely finished others not quite). It's clear why Lee cut these; they don't provide an additional depth to the story although they do provide some nice moments for the actors. The interactive exploration of the Hulk's physical capabilities was underdeveloped. There's also background text on each actor in the main roles, director Lee, the screenwriters and producers of the film. The second disc includes an Xbox game that allows you to play a level of The Hulk Xbox game released earlier in the year. There's also an interesting sequence where well known artists recreate key scenes from the film in their own animation styles. This was actually quite interesting to watch. The sequence that discusses the creation of the Dogfight scene is also quite interesting. Although The Hulk underperformed in theaters, the film is quite good. It's clear that part of the problem was overhyper from Universal and an all too revealing sneak look at the main character himself. All the performances are top-notch particularly the underrated those by Eric Bana and Jennifer Connelly. Josh Lucas continues to create an impressive body of work as the bad guy. It's clear that Lee wanted to make a film with the same faithfulness and stylistic strength of Sam Raimi's Spiderman from 2002. Although he doesn't quite reach Raimi's film, The Hulk manages to be an interesting drama.

Summary: Incredibly bad
Review: I didn't finish this movie. I couldn't stand the way it was shot, i guess trying to be a comic book or something. It was way too distracting. The Hulk when he finally appeared, looked horrible, i've seen better animation on South Park. This is the worst comic-book adaptation i've ever seen. The part with the dogs was incredibly stupid looking. I like how the constantly keep The Hulk in the shadows many times, hiding the bad effects and the fact the Hulk looked and acted nothing like the lead actor: they seemed unconnected, even though there the same person. And how about the storyline?, whoooaaaaa, is this magnolia or a comic book hero? lets stick to the source material guys. 1/2 a star. at least that gorgeous Brilliant Mind actress was in it.

Summary: More drama than action but still a good movie
Review: Although the Hulk isn't your typical comic book movie that you could watch over and over again like Spiderman it's still good. It's slow and doesn't have as much action as you'd expect. It does have a nice science fiction tone to it though. It reminded me of some of those science fiction movies from the 80's. Sorta like Altered States with William Hurt or even Darkman. It's more like those movies than it is like the old tv show. I mean it has that plot where a scientist transformed from science and his g/f is trying to save him. When he does transform it gets silly once he starts jumping from mountain to mountain. I don't know if he had a super jumping ability in the tv show or the comic but it's pretty silly. The movie had too many scenes with him just jumping around too. It may of worked for Ang Lee to have people jumping and flying in Crouching Tigar, Hidden Dragon but it doesn't work in the Hulk. Also when a helacopters are chasing him around, it reminded me too much of that bad 1998 Godzilla movie. The Hulk looks too cartoonish too. They should have just colored the WWE's Brock Lesner green lol. I still liked it though, some of the action was fun such as the Hulk vs super genetic dogs. The performances by Eric Bana "Black Hawke Down", Nick Nolte, Jennifer Connely and Sam Elliot are all strong. I hope that the sequel is more focused and has more action though. Hey X-Men 2 was better than the first one so maybe Hulk 2 will be better as well.

Summary: WHAT WAS THE TARGET AUDIENCE?
Review: I didn't care this movie or the characters, except for when jennifer connelly was on screen. But even she was mostly reaction shots showing a poker face. My younger ones under age 11 didn't care for the movie. My 24 and 26 year old sons didn't care for the movie. What does that leave, 13 to 21 year old males? Eric Bana was interesting, reminding me of a young Liam Neeson. This was a movie without a good notion of who the target audience was. The Claymation looking creatures were mediocrely done. The special effect weren't special. The screen play plodded along. We certainly will not be buying this one.

Summary: GREEN AND MEAN (money and greedy)
Review: Yeah The Hulk is one mean green oversized Shrek, but he is also mean and greedy(green) for fooling a bunch fans into watching this movie. Before you go ignoring most negative reviews on this one, take my advice and rent this one first, and then decide for yourself if you like it or dislike it. It is one of those that you've got to see to believe. My review is in the middle. I thought for sure that I would know once I watched it, but even after watching it, I just don't know. I liked half here and there and did not like half there and over there. That's why you can't take anyone else's word, except you own. See it at your own risk. I know The Hulk would probably be so mad at me for saying this, but he'd blow up into a big pile of green slobbing ooze if he let this review get to him too much.
