Summary: Very entertaining, but...
Review: ...This movie made me uneasy for a few reasons. For example, how on earth can you travel THROUGH the sun without being burned to cinders? Also, Dr. Smith was a tad bit more homo-pedophiliac than he was in the t.v. show, and it kind of made the scenes with him and Will kind of creepy. And finally, the spider-ish version of Dr. Smith was just plain scary. It was probably the most unappealing thing I've ever seen. Very scary, and very realistic, which made it even scarier. A metallic human spider-type thing? What was that all about? Finally, it was kind of hard to follow. In the theater I wasn't able to pay close attention, but upon watching it later, I tried harder, and it was just as confusing. If you blink during this movie, you'll end up on Mars.

Summary: No heart, no soul
Review: The thing that made the television series so interesting was the strange (and campy) alien intelligences that the Robinson family seemed to encounter each week. This crucial element from the television series is entirely missing from this film. Unfortunately, no amount of special effects or high-tech wizardry, which this movie has plenty of, is enough to save it. Instead of interesting aliens, the movie bombards us with a horde of spiders that become tedious after two minutes. Its truly incredible that with all the millions of dollars spent on this movie, no one was able to figure this out!

Review: Platinum Series From New Line Cinema is great, is loaded with extras. Two Audio Commentary Tracks, Deleted Scenes with Different Ending. Music Video. Dolby Digital 5.1 is Great and also on the anamorphic Widescreen(2.35:1) format. Visual Effects is very impressive, not always great but it something to see.Gary Oldman underplay his role as Dr.Smith and the Stand-Out Performance From Jack Johnson as Will Robinson. Good Cast Also but some times you ask why Lacey Chabert is cast in this movie, she plays -Penny Robinson. She good actress but with a Cartoonist Voice. I don`t always like that in movie, just a fun entertaining movie to see. Grade:B+. Panavision.

Summary: So Bad the Studio Gave It Away For Free
Review: The DVD for Lost in space is probably the most loaded DVD I have: cut scenes, extra audio tracks, an episode guide for all original TV episodes, etc. If not for the extras this DVD would be good for nothing more than a drink coaster. Between September 1999 and January 2000 this DVD was one of five given away free to new DVD owners via a special mail-in offer (others being Lethal Weapon 4 and Stepmom). If you find this DVD used make sure it has a UPC code on back. If it has the word PROMOTIONAL then it was a free copy. I never saw the original TV series, but I was a fan of William Hurt, Gary Oldman, and Heather Graham. They did a terrific job of acting, but the story was so juvenile and the computer-generated spiders so ridiculous I lost interest 20 minutes into it. Somehow the writers wanted to mix in a dumb 'Dad was Never There For His Kids' theme into the action. It was a horrible idea which spawned the inevitable line from the youngest son Will: 'Dad, I can see how much you cared!' Yuck. What garbage. If you like sci-fi then The Fifth Element was about 5 times better than this movie, and Stargate about 3 times as good.

Summary: LOST AND FOUND
Review: I had high hopes for this movie when I first saw the preview, and I was more than willing to suspend my disbelief and just go for the ride... but that ride ended suddenly with the introduction of BLARP (coughcommericaltoytie incough), and it was all down hill from there... but, it's not a total loss. I did enjoy the soundtrack (in fact, I'm playing it right now), and the DVD does go a long way in presenting the movie in it's best light. On a FIDDLE FACTOR (ie: all the bells and whistles to play with), LOST IN SPACE gets a eight. There are some fun things to see and play with on this DVD. The deleted scenes are actually not bad, escpecially those scenes where the special effects were not completed, so instead of seeing a effect you simply see: ALIEN BIRD FLYING, or just a blue screen with the actors reacting to what's not there. The commentary really does give you some insight into the pride and pain that went into making this movie. Goldsmith (scriptwriter/producer) really dosen't serve himself well here as he realtes how he got the job for LOST IN SPACE (you have to hear it to beleive it). The DVD does feature reviews of the entire three season run of the original series which is a nice touch. The film also looks fantastic. Not the best, but still something to have in the collection if only to review on how not to make a translation from television to movie.

Summary: Big is not necessarily better
Review: Once more Hollywood messes with a classic show and overcomplicates it. Great effects but in this day and age these still need to support a good story rather than vice versa. The film is an adequate scifi yarn until the Jupiter leaves the Proteus, but after that it seems as if someone mixed up the scripts. If I wanted a touchy feely movie I'd have rented one. Two other points. Firstly - what was that little alien all about - the only reason I could see it being in the film was for the toy marketing that accompanied it. Secondly does the actress who played Penny really speak like that - she sounded as if she swallowed a vocoder and was inhaling helium all the time

Summary: I threw the dvd in the trash
Review: Sure, the special effects are slick, but there's not a single fresh thing about them. And the special effects are the best part of the movie. The storyline makes no sense at all. The dialog was terrible--most unimaginative. I like sci-fi, and hate to see it done so poorly.

Summary: I've read a lot of the reviews here and...
Review: I have one thing to say, listen up: I totaly and utterly agree with everyone that said just sit back and have fun. Why you ask? Here's the reason: Do you honestly go to a movie like Lost in Space or Star Wars expecting a wonderful story? I think not, or I hope not. How can you even think to do that when the trailer has cheap techno music in the backround, no. You go to a movie like this to have fun. The special effects are top-notch and some of the acting is good (Gary Oldman leading the bunch. Mimi Rogers in Close second. Willim Hurt and Mat LeBlanc in third). But of course the story is a little iffy and at one point a little confusing. And the screenplay is bla. But really, just see this to have a good time. I don't recommend to buy it, but do see. What do you have to lose? Go see American Beauty if you want to think.

Summary: Let go and have fun
Review: Obviously, the majority of reviewers have never watched the television series or have neglected to recollect the nature of the series. As a much younger viewer, the one thing that stands out about watching Lost in Space on Sunday mornings was the inherent "quirkiness" of the show. The robots slinky arms and the cheap planet sets only added to the show's appeal. Although the yellow monkey was absolutely out of place in the movie, young Penny and Will were frequently keeping alien pets in the series. In short, I was able to overlook the films flaws, accept them as remaining consistent with the quirky television series, and enjoy the experience. The picture and sound quality of the DVD were good and Gary Oldman's performance outstanding. craze
