Summary: Nice Movie!
Review: This movie is a good one, though not as good as the book. First of all, they forgot a very funny (and important) scene that's in the book but not in the movie; nearly headless Nick's deathday party! I like this movie a lot, but I'm warning you, it's not as good as the book and it kinda spoils your imagination if you've read the book.

Summary: Great Film!
Review: This film is much better than the first. Columbus really captures the dark, evil shadow that lurks over Hogwarts this year. Although Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's (Philosipher's [UK]) Stone was an excellent debut for the Harry Potter film series, Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets really builds on the continuing plot between Harry and Voldemort. In coming films, we will see Voldemort in many different appearances, including a frightful, babylike form in #IV. The Chamber of Secrets provides an excellent base for this kind of evil to come and the triumphs and lessons to be learned. Bravo!

Summary: How CAN'T you like this movie?
Review: Only one word can desribe the Harry Potter movies and books: incredible- that is, incredibly GOOD! I will agree with other people, that the Harry Potter books are better than the movies, but still, these Harry Potter movies make The Lord of the Rings (LOTR) look like a horrible movie, because it is so much better.
See, the Harry Potter movies don't get boring, because right when it starts to get all quiet, something goes wrong, leading to another great action sequence with great special effects. And you have to admit, in (LOTR) a 3.5 hour movie, you can't help falling asleep during the parts in which everything is being explained. In Harry Potter, the explanations are INTERESTING, and never too long, and ALWAYS lead right up to an action sequence. For example, when Hermione asks Prof. McGonnagle about the Chamber of Secrets, there is an explanation, but before you know it, before it can get boring, the Quidditch match (a wizard game on brooms) begins. Now, enough about LOTR and Harry Potter, because we already know the better movie and book... ::COUGH:: HARRY POTTER!
If there was one complaint I had to make about this movie, it would be the lacking of a schoolish atmosphere in the movies, which you feel in the books. The movies don't really show how Ron and Harry sometimes give up school to go on adventures, and how Hermione always tries to keep them from trouble, and is ALWAYS studying.
I absolutely love Dobby, and think he is my favorite animated creature, with Gollum right behind. Dobby's ways of punishing himself make you laugh, no matter how much you try not to. This movie is alot better than the first Harry Potter movie, so go and see this even if you didn't like to first one, because you thought the first one was too kiddish, because this one is not. The special effects are greater than the first one's, improving on the Quidditch. The music is beautiful, too.

The special effects, music, actors, and epic storyline add up to making a movie that is sure to be one of those classic movies you'll want to show your kids when you grow up! In other words, DO NOT miss your chance to buy the ultimate movie of all time (UNTIL THE NEXT HARRY POTTER COMES OUT, THIS MOVIE IS THE BEST MOVIE EVER!).

Summary: Great Movie
Review: Some people have argued that this movie was scary. I don't recommend it for children under 7 because of the implications of "blood, kill" and so on. However, this movie addresses such issues like racism and making choices. I advise people to just watch this movie for fun. Try not to make a religion out of it because its only for pure entertainment.

Summary: One Strange thing
Review: I don' know why, but the edit for the DVD was different from the theatrical release that I saw. The theatrical release had a number (although not all) of the deleted scenes from the DVD included in it. I don't know if our theatre procured a special edition release (which it has in the past), or if the decision was made to chop down the DVD release. Either way, I do wish that they would have put the deleted scenes into the actual movie, which is very easy, and can be toggled on and off (ahh, the wonders of digital recording). Anyway, still, it was excellent, and is highly recommended...

Summary: Snip Snip
Review: It seems I have the same complaint that several others do, that most of the "additional scenes" ought to be in the DVD edition.

I doubt that anybody connected with Harry Potter will read this, but they really ought to take a cue from Peter Jackson (Lord of the Rings) and use the DVD as an opportunity to include scenes that would have made the theatrical release too long.

Most of the additional scenes are not alternate takes but fully-realized scenes that were left out to - it is assumed - save time. For example, the scene in the magic shop in Knockturn Alley with Harry hidden away spying on the Malfoys. Why put that on Disc Two? Why not put it in the DVD edition of the movie, where a little extra running time is not an issue? Ditto with the scenes in Lockheart's classrom, the students gossiping about Harry's ability to speak with snakes, the discussion of the diary and the mystery of its blank pages, and so on. All of these scenes together add up to maybe five minutes. Putting them back into the movie would have made it more seamless, whereas leaving them out creates potholes that are noticeable, even if one doesn't know what was left out.

The jury's still out on whether this is great literature or not, much less great movie-making. But in the meantime, it seems reasonable to treat this material as if it were great and take full advantage of the possibilities of what one can do on DVD. A lot of book 3 is going to have to be left out of the next movie. Shoot it anyway and issue an extended-version DVD.

The kids are growing up. You can't go back later and reshoot.

Summary: Great ... but way scary for young kids.
Review: This movie is as good as the book on which it's based. It's surprisingly faithful, though I wish they'd have let the audience know more about Ginny Weasley's crush on Harry Potter. It's as good as the first movie, occasionally it's even better.

But the reason I'm writing this review is to warn people that, though "Chamber of Secrets" is excellent cinema, some of it is downright scary. The spider chase scene is genuinely frightening, and moments involving a giant snake could be too much for little kids to take.

Watch it before you show it to younger kids. That way, you end up catching a good movie twice, and you can determine whether your kids should watch it at all.

Summary: Great Movie
Review: This will be a great an enjoyable movie, especially if you enjoyed the previous Harry Potter DVD.

Summary: The Last Laugh
Review: I agree with most of the reviewers. Excellent film. The book was better, but the translation to film was faithful. I have only one thing to add. When the film ended in the theaters, most people left before the ten minutes of credit scrolled by. Too Bad, because when the credits end, the film goes back to Diagon Alley for one last joke. The DVD preserves this little bit of humor and shows the last laugh at the end of the credits.
