Summary: Cyber feel for Pop Culture
Review: While people in the security field, or in computers at all, can point to a million technical inacruacys within the movie, its still fun to watch. It captures, if not the hacker reality (by far) then a large part of the myth that alot of us would like to belive in. They threw in just enough tidbits of reality to have "real" hackers doing double takes and enough of everything else for the general viewing public.

I find that Sci-Fi (does this qualify?) is best not for the technology, but for providing an environment for our imaginations to thrive and for us to enjoy colorfull characters. While its a bit overdone in some areas, its a blast to watch, especialy if you like to play Mystery Science Theater 3000.

Review: Hackers is about, what else, Hacking. It is starred by the Angelina Jolie, Matthew Lillard and a few others. They all did a great performance being that they were unknowns at the time.

It is funny how this movie made what little succes it could, a few years after it was at theatres. I think the movie was out for around two weeks and they just took it out, never to be seen again.

I just saw this movie and I was blown away, it is fairly good, and I wish they could make a more up to date version now. The graphics were pretty nice and could you believe what they would be like now? It would be cool.

A Must See...Only PG-13 so everyone can see it.{R rating would be better for a remake!}

Summary: Dissapointing, cheesy and amateurish..
Review: Sadly, although the title of the movie says "Hackers", this movie is really a classic holywood teenage simplification of a subject and is introducing many misconceptions and false facts about hackers.

After the first couple of minutes, which are actually not that bad, most of things go wrong. The acting is on an amateur level and the sessions with computers are very cheesy and don't reflect the reality at all.

There are couple of "clever" references to the real world (one of characters is named "Emmanuel Glodstein" which is a handle of 2600's general editor (the handle is actually taken from the Orwell's 1984) and a reference to the fameous (harmless) "cookie" virus) but those are weak and targeted toward uneducated audience.

This movie was a really big dissapointment after all these flashy reviews on Amazon.com and other sites. I am still waiting for a decent hacker movie.

Summary: I have my own personal rating system...
Review: not connected to classical criticism...and movies that make me this happy deserve five stars. I guess I was lucky--the first time I saw this fabulous flick was when my Mac Classic had just died and I was still trying to figure out how to send email...so I didn't really care whether it was technically realistic (thank gawd...I work with a bunch of hackers all day and don't ever want to see a movie about them...zzzz). It's true that you'll see some flaws that slipped past editing if you watch it a lot (me: guilty), but you'll get over it...The people are beautiful, the lines are funny ("Spandex, it's a privilege, not a right!"), and the plot is so uncomplicated that it's okay if you miss a little bit to go hack into someone's gibson...

So, what I'm saying is this: if you know how to have fun, buy this sucker.

Summary: Hacked off or close to the truth
Review: I bought this video (from a bargain bin) as I have always been fascinated by computer films since Wargames. The plot is simple. A teenage hacker is banned from using computers and other electronic equipment until he is eighteen due to infiltrating and crashing a 1000 machines in one day.

Fast forward to when he is 18 and at college. He and a group of friends, also hackers have a race against time against a criminal (also a hacker) who is trying to frame them and also embezzle funds from the company he is supposed to be protecting with computer security to the all powerful Gibson mainframe. It then becomes a race against time with lots of techno speak, turbo charged laptops and a cyberpunk soundtrack. The film is enjoyable but every time something credible happens it is spoilt soon after by far fetched characters (razor and blade) or far fetched events. However as films of this genre are rare it is worth adding to your collection, but it is amusing as opposed to edge of the seat stuff. As to how true to life it really is, you'll have to ask a hacker.

Summary: Better than you think
Review: I've read lots of reviews of this movie, and I've seen websites dedicated to bashing it, but this movie is so much better than those people think. So what if it doesn't depict hackers as they really are, or tell what they really do? If you're really a hacker you don't want the whole world knowing what you're doing during those long hours on the computer, and most people wouldn't want to see what the hackers really see (I don't want to watch a movie that shows solely encripted messages). The plot is awesome, and someone had to have had a lot of imagination to put something that great together. The visual aspect is superb, with eye popping colors that could catch anybody's peripheral vision. All the actors do an awesome job, and the movie jump started a lot of exceptional movie careers. Even my mom loved it!!! If you're a teen an want to listen to some old guy tell you how HE liked a movie most likely aimed toward a younger audience, be my guest, but you may miss out on a lot of great movies that way. Take it from someone who is a teenager: this movie rocks!!! In short, this is one of my favorite movies of all times, and I suggest that everyone see it. Five stars all the way to hack the planet!!!

Review: A sophisticated 13-year old would reject this movie as being too childish. The plot is about as cliched as you can get. Even 'The Net' which was no _great_ movie was much better compared to 'Hackers'.

Summary: EASY TO WATCH WITH PLENTY OF EYE-CANDY TO PASS AROUND
Review: I have read all of the reviews on here and I agree that this movie is not reality based. I once read (I don't know where) that a movie or book doesn't have to make sense in the real world, it only has to make sense in the world you have created for it. In this, HACKERS has succeeded admirably.

When I first saw this movie in the theaters I didn't know jack about computers. Even still, I knew that the graphics on a computer didn't look like THAT. Now that I am more computer literate (by no means am I a hacker, though) I know that it was incredibly fake. This still does not diminish my enjoyment of the movie. I LOVE this movie. I love the actors, the acting the writing, the clothing, the soundtrack, and especially all the pretty visuals.

When this movie came out I wanted to buy it but no way was I going to pay $100 for a video. For that price I should be given the rights to the movie (in my opinion). So instead I took a little bit of advice from the movie. I rented it and dubbed it.

"Never pay an outrageous price for a movie that would be dirt cheap, if it weren't owned by a bunch of profiteering gluttons."

Summary: Should have been a huge hit!
Review: "Hackers" is a perfect example of what happens to an outstanding movie that is dumped by the studio or distributors: no one's heard of it! Everyone talks about "Matrix" being sooo cyberpunk, but "Hackers" is the true William Gibson movie.

Everything about it rings true: the performances by Angelina Jolie, Jonny Lee Miller & Matthew Lillard who were all unknowns at the time are excellent. The computer lingo is correct for a change, the graphic representation of cyber-space (hacking the "Gibson" super computer) is awesome, & the dialogue sounds like teens talking. There isn't an uneccessary scene in the entire movie!

If you've ever read a William Gibson novel; if you enjoyed "The Matrix"; if you fantasize about bringing down Big Business; if you enjoy great acting & taut directing; I suggest you check out "Hackers". Then tell all your friends!
