Summary: Very Entertaining - Still a Sell-Out
Review: The fact that a decent attempt was finally made to capture Tolkien's life work into film is somewhat pleasing, however, the books themselves will never be mastered.

I understand why Arwen's role had to be enlarged. The movie had to make money. It's still a sell-out no matter how one looks at it.There has been so much talk about the lengths that Peter went to, trying to be true to the original story, but there are still major embellishments that don't ring true to this old-time Tolkien fan.

All in all... A dynamite movie. I take nothing away from that fact. I will see the next two and buy all the DVD's. Forsooth! The Fellowship of the Ring was that good!

Summary: A Note to Easily Influenced Readers
Review: The fact that this is one of the greatest movies I've ever seen aside, I would like to address a little problem I've seen with some of these reviews. The only reason the general rating for this movie is 4.5 stars is because of those individuals giving it 1 star in order to sound intellectual and "above" mainstream. I see right through the garbage written about this movie. Even I, not apt to follow mainstream values and ideology, can appreciate such rare gems such as this which have been incorporated into pop culture. Simply don't listen to any reviewer giving it such a chinsy rating! All that being said, I apologize for my tone and unnaturally long sentences. And check out the extended edition. It's even better.

Summary: The Wonders of Middle-Earth
Review: The fate of Middle-earth lies in the hands of Elijah Wood in the grand fantasy epic "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring". When the forces of evil storm the mystical realm of Middle-earth to reclaim the Ring of the Dark Lord, Sauron, the brave Frodo (Elijah Wood) and the wizard Gandalf (Ian McKellen) embark on a quest to destroy the One Ring that could doom the land. With the help of a fellowship of good freinds and powerful allies, Frodo faces incredible dangers and the fierce minions of the Dark Lord. The film is an astonishing and superb epic tale of good versus evil. Director Peter Jackson delivers the wonders and emotional intensity of J.R.R. Tolkien's classic with such stunning amazement. The movie includes exceptional performances by Viggo Mortensen, Elijah Wood, Cate Blanchett and Ian McKellen as Gandalf. The film also contains amazing special effects, beautiful backgrounds and a rich music score.

"The Lord of the Rings: the Fellowship of the Ring" DVD earns my vote for best DVD of the year. Presented in a Fullscreen format, the DVD has a superb and flawless picture quality. The Dolby Digital sound is breathtaking. If special features are a must then this DVD is a welcome addition to any collection. It contains numerous behind-the-scenes featurettes, trailers including a preview of the upcoming "The Two Towers", a music video, DVD-ROM extras and stunning animated menus. Overall, this DVD scores an "A".

Summary: No Tom Bombadil, but still an excellent movie
Review: The FELLOWSHIP OF THE RING (FOTR) is like Ivory Soap: it's 99.44% pure. That is, it is 99.44% faithful to Tolkien's Fellowship of the Ring. This is highly desirable, because Tolkien's Lord of the Rings trilogy is the greatest English language twentieth century fantasy novel. This movie has outstanding acting. The performances given by Viggo Mortensen (Aragorn) and Sean Bean (Boromir) near the end of FOTR were particularly effective. The scenery and special effects were exceptional. New Zealand was the perfect location for shooting this movie. The integration of live and CGI action images was executed perfectly and seamlessly. Peter Jackson did an extraordinary job directing this movie. As usual, the book is better than the movie, but FOTR is still well worth watching.

Summary: Wonderful Movie
Review: The Fellowship of the Ring Extended Edition left me in awe. I learned much more about the characters and will never watch the theatrical cut again. My only complaint that cost me a star is when Gandalf talks to Saruman and freezes for several seconds. did anyone else notice this?

Summary: A great item for Tolkien fans and collectors
Review: The Fellowship of the Ring gift set is an excellent purchase for Tolkien fans and collectors.

The set comes with 5 DVDs (2 contain the film, 2 are appendices - bonus materials/behind the scenes, and the final DVD is the National Geographic "Beyond the Movie"). Also included with the gift set are two bookends, a free ticket to see The Two Towers in theaters, and a copy of The Lord of the Rings fanclub magazine.

The value of the materials included in this gift set is well worth the price, plus the artwork on the DVD case is beautiful.

Summary: Actually 4.5 stars*****Gotta give them credit*****
Review: The Fellowship of the Ring has every element that a great movie should. Good Acting, a little romance, fight scenes, strong friendships, maybe a bit of comedy here and there, and morals. True, it isnt the best movie of all time but it is certainly very good. Before the movie came out, I had already read the LotR books twice. I am not a fanatic, but I thought that they were really good. I was very happy with the way that the movie was done. I have to admit that I was a bit upset about how they made Galadriel out to be. In the book she was supposed to be the one person who was loved by all and was the symbol of goodness. Even Gimli stood up for her when they left. However, in the movie they made her become some evil witch like thing for a minute. I also did not really like Viggo Mortensen for Aragorn. However, he did the character well. The rest of the characters had actors that fit the rolls perfectly. Especially Legolas, Saruman, Elrond, and Gandalf. True, they compacted lots of the scenes from the book to make them shorter in the movie- but that was expected. It is already a 3 hour movie any way, it would be hard for people to sit through anything longer with greater detail. I think that you should read the books before you see the movie because it may be a little confusing with all of the names of different people and places. However, I recommend that you do not compare every part of the movie to the book- there are some things that had to be left out or added to make the movie more interesting. The special effects of this movie are awesome, the music is great, and the actors are superb (Legolas is exactly what I pictured an elf to be- creatures that are beautiful yet sad because they know the troubles of the world).I definitely think that you should see this movie... it should be at least nominated for best motion picture.

Summary: excellent
Review: The fellowship of the ring is a fantastic cinematic event that outdoes that other fantasy filled movie running alongside it by far. Jacksons direction is perfect, the make-up and CG effects are stunning and above all, fantastic characters are lifted by some fabulous performances. I think that mainly Elijah wood and Ian Mckellen stand out a lot, but the breakthrough role will undoubtedly be Orlando Bloom as the Elvin archer Legolas.
I give this film a five because it is undoubtedly one of the most epic and sweeping movies ever made, matched only by Braveheart for stunning battle sequences and all that we have come to expect from these sorts of movies.
Well done Peter Jackson, i can feel George Lucas trembling from here.

Summary: A Masterpiece of Storytelling and Technical Filmmaking
Review: The Fellowship of the Ring is a three-hour film that feels like a mere 90 minutes. The story is so well-paced and the characters so absorbing that one hardly notices the passage of time. When the film ends, it's as though one has awakened from a trance, and there's an acute feeling of loss, of wanting the story to go on. Happily, two more installments in the epic fantasy saga have already been filmed and will be released in months to come.

For those familiar with Tolkien's works, no review is needed. The Fellowship of the Ring is simply a great movie. For those who really only prefer comedies, romantic melodramas, and those odd foreign films, this movie is simply not for you. However, for lovers of action/adventure, suspense, horror/thriller, fantasy/sci-fi, and high drama there's something for you in this movie. The movie is paced like an action-adventure film, acted like a piece of high drama, and pervaded with gorgeous special effects which blend with the story and support the cast rather than upstaging them. There's also a good bit of horror in the film, though it's far from being a gore-fest. It's not fundamentally a violent film, but it doesn't pull punches in depicting the bad guys as thoroughly, nightmarishly evil either.

You've never watched a movie like this before because there's never been a movie like this made before. It's a fantastic movie for a night alone or a party, and appeals to people of all ages. If you want a movie to pick you up from your easy chair and take you away to another world for a while, this is one you won't want to miss.

Summary: The best book ever written becomes the best movie ever made
Review: The Fellowship of the Ring is a wonderful movie. But although I could talk for hours about what I love about it, I will stick to a few important things that people who have never seen it ought to know. Of course it is adapted from the books by J.R.R.Tolkien, and if you haven't read them, you should. It will make everything that happens in the movie about a thousand times clearer. Nevertheless, Peter Jackson has done an astounding job adapting an enormously complex story into a successful film. When I first heard they were making the movie, I expected it to fail, or be stupid, or something. However, it turned out to be the most beautiful movie I have ever seen. One piece of advice to people though: even if you have seen the movie and think you don't like it, and especially if you have not seen the movie yet - READ THE BOOKS!!!
