Rating: Summary: The extra footages make all the differences Review: The extended edition tells a much better story. I didn't think the deleted scenes/footages would make that much of a different but, boy was I wrong. Add a couple seconds here, a few minutes there and the resulted movie has a smoother, more natural flow to it. It almost like I was watching a completely different movie -- A much better movie than what was shown in the theater. I can't wait to get my hand on the extended edition of The Two Towers!!!Highly recommended.
Rating: Summary: Worth every penny Review: The extended scene itself is a very welcoming addition, and I would have been satasfied just with that and a few behind the scene. But what you get is over 8 hours of the best 'making of' documentary made. Ever! I think the only way you can get more indepth knowledge of the film is to have actually worked on it for 15 months. Exhaustive interviews with the main actors, producers and, of course, Director Peter Jackson. From the preshooting swordplay training the actors went through, to the premier in New Zealand and elsewhere, the bonus material has everything.
Rating: Summary: makes a lot more sense Review: The extended scenes in the DVD made the Two Towers make a lot more sense to me than just with the theatrical release. I was really glad that I waited the extra few months to buy this, instead of getting the two disc edition. I can see why the theatrical version didn't have all the extra scenes because of time concerns, but what a difference! (Like the elven cloaks, for instance, and the other elvish gifts.) I was glad that there was a break in the movie when you have to change discs... I found that watching it in at least two sittings made it easier to concentrate. Ah, the luxuries of movies at home! It's definitely worth the few extra bucks to get this one. After all, you get so much more. For the next two movies in the series, I'd also recommend getting the 4 disc edition. Actually, why do they even bother coming out with the 2 disc one, except for maybe they want to make money off of people who can't wait? Trust me, your patience will be rewarded. If you're a big fan of these movies, this is the one to get. Well, OK, you may want to go all out and get the gift pack, but I found that I could not justify the price to myself. Oh, there was a ticket for the Two Towers that came with this too, so I got to see it for free. That was an added motivation to buy it. I plan to do the same thing for the Return of the King. (At least I'm assuming that they'll do the same thing in the Two Towers package. I hope so!)
Rating: Summary: 5 stars extended, 1 star regular Review: The extended versioin was great because of all the fillers that they cut. The non-extended is just a waste of time so all in all. buy the extended burn the regular.
Rating: Summary: Wish I could give it 95 stars. Oh, yeah, baby!!! Review: The extended version and the commentaries are so wonderful! We spent the whole weekend watching them. The additions to the movie were just perfect. I hope the results from FOTR have encouraged New Line to put up the bucks for this level of welcome detail for the last two. And you know, I don't mind having shelled out for both versions - they are so beautifully done it is worth any amount, but I did appreciate the low price and the free ticket to Two Towers.
Rating: Summary: Nearly Perfect Review: The Extended Version is a much better film than the original theatrical release. While I understand the need to keep the theater-version under 3 hours, the pacing and character development in the extended version make for a better viewing experience. The pace seems less choppy and rushed, and we get several more minutes of elves and hobbits! My only complaint is that I did not learn about the extended version until I bought the theatrical version back in May. It felt like a bit of a "bait and switch." This year, I'll rent "The Two Towers" when it comes out in May and wait to buy the extended version later in the year. I'm sure there'll be even more boxed sets with added stuff after "The Return of the King" is released next year. Peter Jackson and company have made a movie for the ages. True devotion to the spirit and depth of Tolkien, wonderful casting, and an incredibly high-quality production. Not just great special effects, but great character developent and storytelling. The standard for fantasy filmmaking has been re-established at a much higher level.
Rating: Summary: Go the gay way... Review: The extended version is even better than the original movie. Watching it, one gets the feel that this is actually the movie that Peter Jackson wanted to present to the world if screening time was not a constraint. The additional and extended scenes alone are well worth the price of the set. Can't wait for the Two Towers extended version to come out!
Rating: Summary: Worth every penny. Review: The extended version is just plain awesome. It gives you everything from new scenes, maps of Middle-Earth to commentaries. I've been looking through some of these reviews and well, I've read the books just like many other people have. I really love the books and eventhough there was no Tom Bombadil, the movie was still amazing. TRUE Tolkien fans can still like the movie as well. There's no problem with that. If you are interested in the relationship between the cast members (like I was), this DVD will live up to your expectations. My personal all-time favorites are the hobbits and Elijah, Sean, Dom and Billy. Dom and Billy show off their hysterical sense of humor in the "Fellowship of the Cast" and in the commentary. The extended version is great. The new scenes are cool such as "The Passing of the Elves" and when Galadriel gives the Fellowship gifts (from the books). Some of the new scenes are humorous as well, like "At the Green Dragon Inn" where Merry and Pippin sing a song on top of a table (perhaps after drinking too much ale... :)) and the Lembas part. Overall, this is a MUST-HAVE DVD for any Lord of the Rings/Tolkien fans, whether your a fan of just the books, just the movies or both. You won't be disappointed.
Rating: Summary: More, Much More Review: The extended version of Lord of the Rings - Fellowship of the Ring enhances the theatrical release at least tenfold. I have fallen in love with the movie the way my husband fell in the love with the books many years ago. The extended version of the movie gives the story of the fellowship some needed clarification and does nothing but enhance the pleasure of viewing this great and wonderful movie. Anyone who has seen the threatrical version will be in for a treat with this DVD extended version. It is truly an upgrade from an almost perfect movie. I highly recommend it to anyone who loves or likes or was even disappointed in the theatrical release.
Rating: Summary: The Lord of The Rings- extended version , silver collecto ed Review: The extended version of the fellowship of the ring certainly follows the book much more closely. Its beyond me why some of those scenes were not included in the theatrical version since much of the interwoven plots depends on them....The Aragon of the extended version is portrayed more as a reluctant heir to the throne than the theatrical release, hesitant, and fearful of the responsibility, and of failure. And it plays much better in the plot especially against the backdrop of his relationship to Arwen, ; and the burden of the throne and the responsibility of rebuilding middle earth on his shoulars is perfectly juxtapositioned with Frodo's burden. The extended version also shows Frodo's growing isolation within the fellowship because of the rings corrupting power and the fear within the fellowship. But the most stark difference is the whole section on Lothlorien, which is much richer, and more consistent with the story plot. For those people who havent read the novel, the theatrical version is probably enough, but for those who have read the novel know how much closer to the book the extended version is.The fact that the film is 3 1/2 hours long is probably why some of those scenes were excluded...but, I dont mind sitting through a four hour film, if im involved in it, and if it is worth spending that time watching it. In this case, Fellowship is a much richer film with the extended scenes ,in fact, I wish it went longer. I hope there is an extended version of The Two Towers, and The Return of the King
