Summary: lost in space
Review: I don't see how any true starwars fan could recommend this movie. I'ts a total disgrace, and should be totally ignored. The only good part of the movie was the lightsaber battle at the end, but that still doesn't redeem this childish, dumbed down movie. I'll happily watch the first three movies(not the special editions), and make up a story in my own mind to replace this one.

Summary: Episode I was GREAT!
Review: I don't see how people can say that the movie wasn't any good, it was great. All of the cast did a great job, and the graphics were the best yet. I can't wait to see the next one, because it'll most likely be as good as this one. Ewan McGregor needs to keep up the GREAT acting skills. I'll admit there is one thing I didn't like about the movie and that was when Qui-Gon Jinn got killed, he needed to make it to the second movie.

Summary: give me a break
Review: I don't see why all these people are so obsessed with the original 3 Star Wars films. Episode 1 and 2 as the Empire Strikes Back. You know, Darth Maul vs. Obi-Wan and Qui-Gon and Luke vs. Palpetine and Vader, the romance of Han and Leia, and Padme and Anikan. All in all these movies aren't any better than the other. I don't see why these 70's geezers are so ticked off about the new Star Wars Movies. If you like Star Wars, except the new movies. Thank you Lucas.

Review: I don't see why people don't like Jar Jar Binks. I mean, doesn't he save Qui-Gon and Obi-Wan at the beginning, and then save everyone at the end by telling Queen Amidala about the Gungan army? I think this is the best Star Wars movie ever, and am GREATLY anticipating Episode II

Summary: only true star wars fans appreciate this one
Review: I don't understand the negative responses to this movie, I have always been a fan of many movies... I saw it opening night and it made me feel like the first movie made me feel as a kid, finally for the first time in many years i felt like my money was not wasted. This is a great film, what summer movies are supposed to be, what people have forgotten is that it is just part of a much larger story, Ep 2&3 will highlight what this film did not, and i think that is what many so-called fans have in my estimate forgotten, it is not supposed to be like the original trilogy, if it were people would complain about that, i think that once the other two are finished Ep 1 won't look so dull to so many.I loved it as much as the original trilogy and i'm sure that Lucas won't dissappoint me with the next two, this film delivered what many so-called hollywood blockbusters don't, it will shine on DVD, I can't wait!!

Summary: Why does everybody expect so much of this movie?
Review: I don't understand why a bunch of people are comparing this movie to the three classic Star Wars movies. It's not supposed to be comparable to them because it's telling the story of how the three classics came to be, from the beginning at that. The head Jedi Knight, Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson), and his trainee, Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), find out that they have some trouble to deal with, ultimately to fight Darth Maul. However, a new challenge comes up, a young boy named Anakin Skywalker (Jake Lloyd) wants to become a Jedi, so it's up to Qui-Gon Jinn and Obi-Wan Kenobi to take him along and train him.

Some of the unforgettable scenes from "Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace" are the pod race and the fight with Darth Maul. You'll see some of the best known characters from the classic Star Wars movies in their early stages such as C-3PO, R2-D2, and Yoda.

Don't watch this movie expecting it to be as action packed or anything like the three classic Star Wars movies, because it isn't. It's just telling the story of the Star Wars trilogy from the beginning. If you expect too much from it, you might not like it that much. "Star Wars Episode II" is coming out in 2002 and "Star Wars Episode III" is coming out in 2005, and they will probably be even better than this movie because they will get more and more like the three classic Star Wars movies, and you will see more of the characters you already know. I recommend any true Star Wars fan to get "Star Wars Episode I - The Phantom Menace."

Summary: Why is there no DVD or LD for christ sake?
Review: I don't understand why George Lucas is not ready to release TPM on DVD or LD, at least on LD,like he did with the Special Edition. A man who earns so much money, is only interested in making more profit. He could have released the LD at least in the US to satisfy those who have a LD-Player and not the Japanese Version with Subtitles but nevertheless, for everyone who wants to experience the real Star Wars feeling, they have to wait until Spring 2006. Shame on you George Lucas.

Summary: damn you george lucas!
Review: I dont care what anyone says about this movie (or epi II)I adored it. I went into it without the expectation that this was going to be Epi V revisited so I loved it. I loved Natalie Portman, I loved Ewan McGreggor. The movie was just fantastic. This DVD was beyond fantastic, the best DVD since the Matrix

Summary: Good DVD, Okay Movie
Review: I enjoy the Star Wars triology and I grew up with the Star Wars figures, played the role playing game and couldn't wait until the new Star Wars movie came out. I'll admit, I was disappointed by the movie mainly because of the cutesie things that were put in. However, the lightsaber battle at the end of the movie more than made up for Jar Jar Binks. It was cool to see actual Jedis practice their craft. It was also cool to see the little boy that would eventually become Vader.

The DVD itself and the extras are pretty well done as well. I never noticed before that they use different scenes each time you put the movie in.

Summary: Liked it, but I won't buy VHS. Only DVD.
Review: I enjoyed all the Star Wars films and it's great that it's available for those who only have VHS video. But not only does Mr. Lucas stick it to the fans by having to buy a collectors set to get a widescreen copy, he refuses to release it on DVD until 2005(?). I've stopped buying VHS altogether since I purchased several DVD players in the past year, and I refuse to own a VHS copy of either version of Episode I, and what makes you think I'll still have any interest in owning it on DVD by 2005? You have talented staff at Lucasfilm to slap together the films w/ trailers and that will make everyone happy. It's also more money for you, George. Even when you release them a second time by the completion of the trilogy, we'll buy the sets all over again simply because they would be worth collecting! Mr. Lucas, it saddens me to think how you depended on your fans at the time of the original trilogy's release, now you deprive the very fans you depended on of a DVD release. As much as I enjoyed the Star Wars movies, I just won't have any desire to own them in my collection, be it VHS or DVD, if you don't change your mind.
