Godzilla, Mothra and King Ghidorah - Giant Monsters All-Out Attack

Review: Well, to start off, this is the second restart of the Godzilla series since the previous film, "Godzilla vs Megagirus" which itself rewrote the Godzilla tale. Both accept only the original Godzilla film while omitting the last numerous entries.
Here Godzilla is powered by a collection of ticked off souls bent on destroying Tokyo. Only the Guardian Monsters of Japan's land can stop Godzilla. Baragon promptly gets his butt kicked, which was rather enjoyable for me, since I think Baragon is a stupid monster to begin with (I found myself cheering Godzilla). Mothra is beefed up a bit and deals out some fair damage to Godzilla toward the end of the film, after which Ghidorah (a good guy? unforgivable!) attacks.
The highlight of this film is definately the special effects. They may be the most immpressive of the Toho series. Godzilla's nuclear breath has never looked so cool...or powerful! Their is a magnificent pan shot of Tokyo as Mothra flies through the night that I thought was amazing. This film has a LOT of destruction, something a lot of the Godzilla films lack, but then this is a direct sequel to the original, so not much of a surprise.
Godzilla is a bit too pudgy looking, but maybe that's supposed to be muscle. His eyeballs are now a solid white. Since he is filled with dead people, maybe he's supposed to look like a zombie.
The score is servicable, but not hugely memorable.
A lot of the writing is good(the dig about Devlin & Emmerich's "Godzilla" film is humerous), but equal portions are bad. One doesn't seem to want to care for the majority of the characters. One thing that bothered me was humor that seemed a bit poorly placed and some that was mean spirited. A lot of soldiers just stand around and get killed for no good reason (dark humor: as the soldiers march into place when tokyo is evacuated, some teens call out to them "Hey! Good luck! You know you're all gonna die!"). I would suggest parents treat this more as a PG 13 rated film for their kids.
Taken as a one-off story, it's not terrible...just a bit odd.

Review: This movie rocks. The DVD treatment gives this awesome Dai Kaiju film everything it deserves. With the Japanese soundtrack and widescreen presentation, this modern day masterpiece directed by the talented Shusuke Kaneko (Gamera Trilogy) stands above every Godzilla film in recent years. Monster action -- better special effects than a Godzilla film deserves -- a coherent plot: What is not to love? If your only going to buy one Godzilla film from the Shinsei series (Godzilla films made between 1999-2004) make it this film. ---A spolid buy in nearly every conceivable way.

Summary: A First-Rate Godzilla Epic
Review: "Godzilla, Mothra, King Ghidorah: Giant Monsters All-Out Attack" (something simply must have gotten lost in the translation for that title) is arguably the best Godzilla movie of the new 'millennium' series. Godzilla, for the first time since the sixties, is presented as pure evil, and is more effective here than he has been in a long time (even if the rubber suit is a bit more lacklustre than usual). The monster battle scenes, featuring King Ghidorah, Mothra, and the long-forgotten Borodan, are up to the series' recent high standard, and there are some interesting new takes on the monsters' origins. Even if the human plot is decidedly uninteresting, this should still be a must for any Godzilla fan.
The DVD presents the film in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio. The picture is clean and sharp, with only minimal grain and print damage. Like all of Columbia Tristar's recent Godzilla releases, there is a choice between English dubbed/Japanese subtitled audio, which will keep purists happily. Unfortunately (but unsurprisingly), there are no extra features other than some trailers for other Tristar Asian movies.

Review: As you probably know Shusuke Kaneko (the man who directed the Gamera trilogy) also directed Gmk, short for Godzilla Mothra King Ghidorah Giant Monsters All-Out Attack! But how does it stack-up against previous Godzilla movies and the 90's Gameras?
Well the special effects are supirior to the previous Godzillas
and to the first 2 heisei gameras but not as good as Gamera 3.
The story and acting are excellent. The designs for Godzilla, Mothra, and Baragon are fantasic, although King Ghidorah was a
total dissapointment. Not only does his design suck but he's a good guy! King Ghidorah should never be the good guy!
One of the things I absolutly love about this movie are the monster battles. Gamera 3 had wonderful battles but, they were just to short. GMK's were not. These are some of the best battles ever! I can watch them over and over again and not get tired of them. This movie is a somewhat suspenseful one.
This is because for the first 30 min. you only get glimpses of the monsters. The music is also extremly good. I have to say this is most certainly one of the best movies I've ever seen!

Review: Finally Godzilla is back to his old 1954 self. A walking disaster that cannot be stopped. The way he kicks the stuffing and then NUKES Baragon is awesome. The same goes for the butt stomping of both Mothra and King Ghidorah. The one on one monster battles hark back to the early days of Godzilla. A must have for any fan of the Gman.

Summary: STOMPING GOOD ROMP
Review: With this film, Gojira finally stomps his way into the 21st century. This is the Godzilla that hearkens back to the very first incarnation: an unstoppable, malevolent force of nature leaving swaths of radioactive destruction in his wake. The special effects are extremely impressive ( consider what the Toho technicians accomplished here with one tenth of the budget available to the producers of the 1998 american abortion they dared to call 'Godzilla' ).In fact, this is a quite capable tool for Gojira apologists attempting to sway non-believers to enter the fold. Gone are the goofy doe-eyed little kids, lame Ultra Man knockoffs and pointless ( usually 'romantic' ) sublots. This Godzilla STOMPS ASS. If I had any reservations about the film, it would probably be the appearance of Ghidorah the three-headed dragon. How the mighty have fallen - a creature so badass it took the combined might of virtually every monster in the Toho roster to defeat him back in 'Destroy All Monsters', is now reduced to looking like a particularly fancy pinata. But this is a minor quibble. This film far surpasses the 90's 'Hesei' Godzilla series in terms of quality, action and sheer 'awesomeness', and as a Godzilla fan since I was knee-high to a zygote, I strongly recommend this movie to fans of Godzilla in particular, and Science-Fiction/Fantasy film fans in general.

Review: While the 1st Gojira movie holds a place as a historically important film and considered the best one, GMK is the most entertaining. And Godzilla here is presented as evil rather than his usual force of nature self. You can see GMK over and over and not get tired of it, a sign of a great movie. And its always fun to watch G roast that overgrown moth!! If you dont own a Godzilla movie, buy this one to start a collection. My personal favorite.
