Summary: Subtitles Superior
Review: I saw the dubbed & edited version of this film in August 2003 on the Sci Fi channel. The edited version was hardly the same film as important pieces of the story had been removed. The Japanese language subtitled version is far superior. One of the better Godzilla films.

Summary: Best kaiju movie, ever!
Review: This one just blew me away when I saw it. Just freakin' awesome! The only films that even compare, technically, are the 3 Gamera films by the same director. I love Gamera and all, but Godzilla stomps all over him! In this film, Godzilla returns to Japan to avenge those who died in the Pacific War and he has never been meaner. His eyes are pure white, giving him a demonic look about him and his fire breath unleashes all of the power of an atomic blast, mushroom cloud and all. Every time the combined might of the military and the 3 opposing guardian beasts threaten to stop his relentless destruction, the big guy pulls another trick out of his sleeve and just devastates. You will truly cheer for the villain in this film. The lead Japanese actress is adorable and does a great job with her character, and the supporting cast is good as well. I think what impressed me most about this film was Mothra. No longer can you practically see the wire holding her up as her wings slowly flap and propel her at a leisurely pace across miniature sets. This Mothra dodges and swoops between buildings at breakneck speed and even fires stingers from her abdomen. Pretty awesome stuff! The shots of Baragon travelling through the forest are beautifully done as well. Ghidora is the least impressive, but most powerful, of the trio of guardian beasts. Still, the part where he bites Godzilla and shocks him is pretty darn cool. I disliked the ending, but due to the content of the rest of the film, I'm willing to accept it and bestow the highest honor I can give a film of any genre: a five star, absolute must-see rating.

Summary: Great movie, terrible DVD
Review: I love "GMK." With proper subtitles, it's the best Godzilla movie since the original. A lot of fans complain about the plot because, frankly, it comes across as garbled and silly in the American version. But I think it's a great idea to make Godzilla a possessed creature; it's an effective way to tweak and modernize his character. But sadly, this American DVD cheapens the film's attempts at drama and depth by adding comedy dubbing that does not reflect the original script. Yes, the DVD has subtitles, but they're based on the dub - so they're not accurate either.

Just how bad is the translation? Here's just one example: on the Japanese DVD, one of the soldiers says: "We're not allowed to open fire on Mothra." On the American DVD, he says something on the order of: "Damn, that's a big, flying bug." Sorry, but that's a disgrace; can't we make a serious adaption of these films, or must we turn them into dumb, unfunny farces? Virtually every line has been changed to make the characters seem stupider and more melodramatic. If you like Godzilla because it's stupid, by all means, buy this; but if you like Godzilla because it's good science fiction, pass until a better translation comes out.

No wonder people don't give this movie enough credit - they haven't seen an accurate version! Nice print and all, but in all the areas that really count, this DVD stinks.

Summary: Baragon is the man
Review: Though people may rate this movie hard but ThaboyK have to give this a 4 because of Baragon.Baragon we see in some kajiu films but not enough makes his entry as guardian to defeat godzilla but fall shortly as he got his tail whop bad and blast alive. The monster suits was very good except godzilla and King Gidorah.I
dont know but was it me or im just seeing things. It seems my man
G been on a island drinking beer explaing that Bear Belly.Whats
up with those eyes G?King Gidorah was pretty cool but look kinda
goffy and small.Mothra and Baragon suits were cool i really dont have to make a comment on those two.The storyline was alright but the whole spirits of the pacific was kinda lame.As for the monster action was very well done and very entertaining.Sadlly to say all three monster got there butts whip bad with ease. The actors was pretty good not really that annyoying but well spoken in a lot of seens. But overall this is a must see just because the whole monster brawl.King Gidorah a guardian sounds
instresting!

Summary: Godzilla with a mean streak
Review: Let me start off by saying WOW! I was most impressed with this movie. The last Godzilla Movie I saw Was "Godzilla 2000" I loved the redesign that they gave Godzilla in this movie. So when I heard About this movie and how Godzilla had a "Retro" Look I was a bit Leary about it.

Well, All my concerns were quickly put to an end. This has to be one of the BEST Godzilla Movies I have seen in a while. The acting was great, The monsters looked Fabulous, The Special effects were Dazzaling to say the least! They blew my socks off! They would give Hollywood a run for the money.

I have never seen Godzilla so...Evil in any of his movies, like I saw him in this one. He was Mad. He was mean. He was smart. He was fierce. And those Eyes of his! Well, he just plain kicked ass. Then Mothra and King Gidorha Goes with out saying! They also have never looked so good!

Now the movie is not whitout it's falts. The one major complain I had with this movie was the whole Godzilla being filed with spirits of the dead thing. Could have done with out it. Besides that it was AWESOME!

No Chessyness here, nothing but full on Action, Suspense and Fun. If you do buy a Godzilla movie make sure it is this one! Yuo will not regret it!

Summary: GMK: Possibly the best of the Millenium Era movies.
Review: I do have to admit that I have been a big fan of the Godzilla Franchise every since the 70's when the Saturday Marathons for the Showa movies were going strong. Now flash forward nearly 30 years later and we come to the Millenium series. I had heard alot of things about GMK beforehand from people who owned it on Region 2 DVD. At first I was quite put off by pictures of the Kaneko Goji costume. It wasn't so much the pupiless eyes that bothered me, but more the enormous paunch on the creature. I had to admit that he looked to me like Barney having a very bad day. But you know what? I decided to give this movie a chance and boy was I surprised. I have to say that out of all the Millenium movies, I like GMK alot. It can be to some people slow at the beginning as we are introduced to our main cast of characters. But in order for we the viewer to sympathize with the characters and their plight, the character development is necessary. While the Special FX aren't quite Hollywood quality, for a Rubber Suit Goji movie they are very well done. Also the matting of the miniature sets and the crowd scenes were pretty well integrated. You almost felt like the people fleeing in terror were just dangerously a few hundred feet away from the kaiju when they were battling. One major drawback for me was how embarassingly easy GMK King Ghidorah was defeated not once, not twice but three times in the climactic battle scene as opposed to the nigh invincible Showa Ghidrah. So in short, if you love Goji flicks, you'll love GMK. Oh and according to some subtitles, Kaneko takes a vicious dig at the poorly received American Godzilla aka GINO. I've heard the dubs kind of lessen the bite of the original dialogue though. Can anyone back me up here?

Summary: One the best G-Films
Review: Okay this movie is considered by many fans the definitive Godzilla movie the best of the best, I personally don't think it's the greatest nor the worst. It's a great Godzilla movie the SPFX are the best out of any Godzilla movies.

What I don't like about it is the pacing is slooooow. It reminds me of Gamera 3 another great kaiju film but one I didn't care for because of the lack of monster action(but when there was some it was incrediable).

The plot has something to do with mythical monsters awakening and trying to stop Godzilla from destroying all of japan. Kaneko seems to like to do movies about this as a mythological plot was invovled in Gamera 3 as well. Any way both movies are highly reccomended

If you looking for a good monster film then pick this up I think you'll enjoy it but if you like your movies fast paced then this one may bore you.

A- film.

Summary: A Godzilla Movie That Is Sure To Please!
Review: When I first heard that GMK was going to have a fantasy/mythological story to it, I was skeptical as to if it would work. But it shows it can work here! The movie is full of monster action that is sure to please monster fans! The human drama is pretty well done also.
This would get 5 stars if the monster action were longer than it is.

Summary: horrible
Review: This Godzilla movie epitomizes everything that can go wrong in this genre. Godzilla is not supposed to be magical and involved with enemies who look like Barney rejects. The effects in this movie suck, and the monsters look horrible. There is way too much focus on stupid human sub-plots (as usual) and bad pacing. The score is also horrible and only features the famous themes at the very last shot & credits. The original Gojira was scary, serious, and held a lot of symbolisms. This movie is garbage.

Summary: If ya like Zilla, you'll love this one.
Review: This is by far one of the best Godzilla movies I've seen. And I've seen em all and own most all. Yes He's a big rubber suit walking around, but they did a great job of blending it in with real footage, better than any I've seen to date.

This one's a kind of a blend of 60's & 70's Zilla, goofy rubber guy fighting goofy rubber pigdog, with damn good effects,Very fun. The effects aren't as quality as the big Hollywood letdown, but they're pretty damn good. Besides CG smokesceened in rain and darkness can always look decent.

So if you like Zilla ..... get it.

(I've seen the later released Zilla VS MechaZilla.......Back to low budget and a letdown. They should've let Shusuke Kaneko direct again)
