Summary: IT STILL ROCKS AFTER 10 YEARS
Review: I remember going to see this movie in the theater when I was a little kid, and I remember how amazed I was when I saw it. Even to this day, I am still amazed whenever I see it.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Could be better
Review: The best scene in this film is the first one, in which Batman appears to beat up some common thugs. We get the sense of dark mystery about him that the early comic books contained. Tim Burton is an interesting directorial choice, and the overall look of this dim picture is great. However, Nicholson is simply annoying (and there are gratuitous scenes of him dancing round an art museum or clipping up photographs from God knows where that simply don't make a lot of sense) and we never get a very satisfying dismissal of him at the end. Basinger is useless too.

Summary: I love this movie b/c it is GREAT! (ps Batman is awesome.)
Review: I think this movie is one of the best of all time...and that's about it

Summary: The Best of the Superhero Movies!!!!
Review: This Batman is not only the best Batman movie ever, but it is also the best superhero movie ever. Nicholson is perfect as the Joker, Keaton pulls off the Batman role as no one else has, and Tim Burton's film making is amazing! This movie is a flat out classic! Don't think twice about adding this movie to your DVD collection. The only downer to this DVD is that Warner Bros. didn't put the theatrical trailers on the disc.

Summary: Good intentions, but a poor end result.
Review: Although BATMAN is my all time favorite character, this film falls short, although nowhere near as short as the Shumacher films. There isn't NEAR enough of Batman in the film! Batman's background is not told as it should've been..there is very little exploration into his past life. For instance, WE ARE NEVER SHOWN WHY HE DECIDED TO DRESS UP LIKE A BAT! We know that it's done in order to scare people, but why didn't he just become "Snakeman" for that matter? We know that he fights crime because his parents were murdered, but we never see that incredible scene from the comics in which the bat crashes through the window! It makes you wonder why he didn't just join The FBI or something.

The Joker's origin is needlessly re-told in the film in a way that leaves you absolutely NO sypmathy for the character. Besides that, Nicholson (who is overrated in the role) is given WAAAAY too much screen time. Additionally, his goons are uncharacterstically dressed in black and are of relatively normal behavior. Furthermore, killing The Joker is one of the biggest mistakes the filmmakers could've made.

Commissioner Gordon is portrayed more like a candy carrying sweet old grandpa who can't wait to take out his teeth and watch Wheel Of Fortune, Not at all like the No B.S. badass of the comics.

Vicki Vale and Alexander Knox (especially Knox)are unneeded and serve only to take away from the story. That Batman would even consider trying to have a girlfriend is totally at odds with the characters' overwhelming obsession with ending crime in Gotham...he simply doesn't have the time.

However, Danny Elfman's score is downright excellent, but Prince's idiotic songs that are littered throughout the film are nothing if not disenchanting, not to mention embarrassing. Countless other plotholes like Batman letting Vicki into The Batcave are too numerous to mention. However,if you want REAL Batman, read "Year One", "The Dark Knight Returns", "The Killing Joke", or Grant Morrisson's "JLA", amongst many others. ~Albert Ricci

Summary: The one, the only, BATMAN!
Review: On the night of June 23, 1989, I saw Tim Burton's BATMAN on its theatrical debut. Ten years later, on June 23, 1999, I watched it again for the occasion of its decade-long anniversary. In the long run, I felt that the film wasn't as good as the sequels...it was SUPERIOR! There are so many merits: the production gave the film a more normal and realistic atmosphere to the proceedings (unlike the darker RETURNS, or the cartoonish FOREVER and ROBIN), the effects were great, the performances of Michael Keaton (the best Batman), Jack Nicholson (the best Bat-villain Joker), and Kim Basinger (the best bat-leading lady) were right-on-target, and the powerful music by Danny Elfman was the topping of the cake. The final shot of the film is especially memorable. With the exception of SUPERMAN THE MOVIE, BATMAN is probably filmdom's best adaptation of a comic book. Happy 10th anniversary!!!

Summary: Jack is Back
Review: The casting for Batman was incredible. Micheal Keaton and Jack Nicholson defintely bring a lot spunk to this dark but highly moving film. I hoped that it would not be as campy as the television. But it definitely spear heads it a Batman of the future.

Summary: Greatest fan In South Africa
Review: The first BATMAN is in my book the best, altough the sequals each hold theire own. Batman brings comic's to life in a way we all could only hope for,it draws you in and overwelms you. Michael Keatons is BATMAN in the true sence off the word.

Summary: The best "Batman" movie
Review: "Batman" is definetly the best of all the Batman movies in the series. It was an entirely new form of superhero movies that nobody had ever seen before. It was a dark movie but it still had humor and romance in it. The other three "Batman" movies could ever beat it.

Rating: 3 stars
Summary: Pretty cool - and Keaton is the Best Batman
Review: However, the low star ranking is because I don't think the movie stands the Test Of Time (tm). Kim Bassinger screams too much, etc.

However, the archetypal battle is well done, you can really see the Good/Evil fights, the car is cool, most of the SFX are good - it's a shame about the poxy latex suits, but hey, you can't win 'em all.
