Summary: Genius, a classic example of Burton's skill
Review: Batman is such a great movie - when I think about what the series has become it disturbs me greatly. The original, which is by far the best, shows a dark and gothic Gotham city yet still has a hint of light-hearted fantasy (which sadly Batman Returns lacks). Burton is undoubtedly one of the best director's around - check out Sleepy Hollow if you like his other movies. Batman Returns has a very creative and "Burton-esque" visual style, yet it's so unrelentingly dark it can't compare to the first, and the best.

Summary: Love that Joker
Review: When the monkey that wrote Batman handed the screenplay in to Tim Burton he must have been grinning from ear to ear. Tim Burton has a nack for making good movies out of bad scripts. Many have noted that Nicholson's Joker is center stage more than Keaton's Batman and this is a problem for a movie called Batman. The good thing is, Nicholson's Joker is so good it should be center stage. Anyone who has read a comic book knows that the Joker IS over the top. He played the part perfectly. He is the only character in the movie who is played perfectly. As a matter of fact every Batman movie after this one got such considerably worse because every actor was trying to immitate Nicholson playing the joker and not their part. Jim Carrey and Tommy lee Jones were such bad knock offs of nicholson that they should pay him half their salaries. Keaton played a bad part well. His character was absurdly far away from the comic book and his fifteen minutes of time as Batman was spent poorly. HOW IN THE HELL DID THE BATJET MISS THE JOKER SO MANY TIMES.

Review: I do not know how anyone could disagree with me when I say that this is filmaking at its best. The creative genius of Tim Burton and the over-the-top performance by Jack Nicholson, make this an instant classic, and a must-see movie.

Review: 4 stars might actually be a little kind, objectively speaking, but I'm a little biased because I like Tim Burton. Michael Keaton is incredible as Bruce Wayne, and if not quite as remarkable as Batman himself, he's acceptable. Jack Nicholson stands out as the Joker and does a fine job, although there's a part of me that somehow feels there is someone else who would've been more apppropriate. The story is admittedly iffy, and there are aspects of it which probably could've been explored more thoroughly. Yet all in all, Batman somehow retains its status as a fun, classic movie, which I enjoy.

Review: This is a great film on DVD. The best one yet. This a movie that may have even let you root for the bad guy. So I give this 4 stars out of 5.

Summary: The real Batman.
Review: A great film. I think Batman is above average in the action/crime genre. Yet could have maybe just been a little more . It was a dark story and I mean dark in two ways. 1. This ain't the happy Batman that they show on the cartoon's. It's the actual dark knight just like a majority of the comics. In my opinion this is a great idea and makes for a far more interesting story. It is also good that the next Batman cartoon was more like this movie then the Batman cartoon's that Hanna Barbera made in the seventies. 2. A lot of the fight scenes are done in almost pitch black alleys and streets. I did not like this as it was just an odd way to view the movie in my opionion. Nicholson's Joker is very good yet sometimes he hams it up a little too much. Of course some great quotes by Jack as the Joker. You'll laugh a few times at what he has to say. Keaton's Batman/Bruce Wayne was great. Definetely not who I expected, but it turned out to be great that they chose him. I really enjoyed the ending of this movie. With Batman fighting his way through the Joker's goon's. Waiting until he can face Joker man to psycho. Burton definately used his own style in the Batman film, but it's story is above average with a great villain and hero. Some dark subject matter that shouldnt't be viewed by some small kids. Kim Basinger is great as Vicki Vale. SPOILER Best part: Joker shocks a man to death with a 10,000 volt joy buzzer. Worst part: The Joker shoots Bob, his number one goon. Why? Sure the Joker is nuts, but he's not stupid.

Review: The first and the best of the latest series of Batman movies. A real tour de force with great performances by Nicholson and Keaton. The real star of the show is Gotham City, a dark nightmare world patterned after the one in Frank Miller's Dark Knight Returns.

Summary: FLAWED GIANT
Review: Though a monster hit on it's release, Tim Burton's "Batman" is not as good as it should have been. Danny Elfman's score and Anton Furst's production design are superlative, and both Nicholson and Keaton do an excellent job. Unfortunately, this film was in desperate need of a script doctor. The story is uneven, and there are holes in the plot large enough to drive a batmobile through. It's enjoyable, and the DVD picture and sound are ok. It just should have been much better.

Review: `Nuff said about the film itself in the other reviews...
The DVD quality was OK. The picture was clear, but a little wobbly at the start. Sound quality was good, but not much use made of surround with the film being made in 1989. Shame there's not much extra on the disc though.

Summary: Batman the way it was meant to be seen!!!
Review: I first seen this back in theaters in 1989 when i was about 7. I love it today just as much as I had first seen it! Tim Burton did a great job and should have stuck with the whole Batman franchise instead of handing it over to Joel "Suck-maker." Batman Forever was OK, I guess, but it's nothing compared to this one. Keaton is the golden Batman in the same sense that Sean Connery is the golden James Bond, and I think that at least 90% of Batman fans will agree with me on this one. Nicholson plays the best villain by far, which is (as everyone and their mother knows) is the Joker. The darkness of the movie has much more to it than that light crap that's in the new ones. Well, I'm pretty much rambling on about it, so in closing, let me say that this is by far the best Batman movie ever and if you haven't gotten a copy...what the heck are you waiting for?!
