Summary: Superb comic book adaption
Review: When you watch a movie based on a comic book, you shouldn't expect the story or script to be profound, they're usually simple tales of good versus evil. So, based on that I could ignore some of the problems others might have had with the dialouge or the story. What I found to be brilliant were the visuals, and the use of music. This movie, in addition to Alex Proyas' other movie 'Dark City' seem to use exaggerated backgrounds and Landscapes. Other movies that come to mind are 'Batman' & if you want to go back to German expressionism 'The Cabinet of DR. Caligari' In which the city looks fake on purpose to give you that sense that it's out of a dream or a nightmare. Don't get me wrong, like I said, for a comic book the story is fine. And Brandon Lee does a fine job in this movie(When he gets mad, to me he REALLY looks mad) Basically, I used to love comic books, and when a movie gets made based on one, I like the director to keep the style of the one it's based on, and I think this movie did that perfectly.

Summary: Probably a great comic book . . .
Review: This is a PG-13 movie for 11-year-old Saturday morning cartoon fans trying to convince you it's really an R-rated adult fantasy epic. This is my favorite sort of movie, so I'm not prematurely indisposed to a lot of grimness, fighting, gothic sets, etc.; but the look of this movie (admittedly its strongest selling point) is, with a few exceptions, flat. All the Gothic churches and bars that Brandon Lee runs around in come off looking like photographs instead of the lush, dark alleyways and skyscrapers they're meant to resemble. There's hardly any dimension to the images on the screen; it's all on the surface, which is exactly opposite of the intended effect. Brandon Lee is an OK actor - he speaks well, but doesn't always communicate skillfully with his face (there are a couple times when, instead of showing the agony he's supposed to be in, he just looks dreamy); he also hardly does any martial arts, which I considered a big disappointment. The script [stinks], e.g., "I see you've made your decision." The swearing has absolutely no rhythm - nobody swears in real life like these guys do; when you're using four letter words to vent your feelings, you can often find a kind of rhythm without even trying - unlike these characters. It's as if they threw in a lot of obscenity just to try to make you think these are genuinely tough guys (instead of idiots who swallow bullets and shout "Fire it up" to each otherw while pumping their fists - gimme a break, not even junior highers do that). The only other element I remember was a lot of agony from the main character, repeating the mistake which almost all anime and most actions movies make: in a movie like this, you don't want pathos - you just wanna see stuff blown up real good and a lot of fighting. This movie could have been a lot worse; but it's not a good sign when, about halfway through, I found myself thinking, "Gee, this would make a great comic book . . ."

Review: I had never seen the crow before about 2 months ago.I had always heard from people that the 1st one was the best out of the 2(no one seems to know about salvation) so i decided to see it, i downloaded a 500meg file off the net sat back and watched probably one of the best movies i have seen in a LONG time.brandon lee plays a batman type hero, a vigilante but with a much darker side kind of a lethal enforcer( much like venom from the spiderman series).Out for revenge on those who killed him and his bride to be.He is ressurected by the power of a rather large crow and immortality is bestowed upon him.From there this great movie with a plot to match unfolds until the finale.Buy this movie you wont regret it.

Summary: A timeless emotional thriller
Review: A mysteriousness follows throughout this whole film because of the death of Brandon Lee on the set. This movie is in the top 5 list on my collection. The justified revenge, the awesome soundtrack and the dark scenes will leave you begging for more. This should have been the only Crow movie made. The 2nd and 3rd crow offered nothing more than insult to Brandon Lee's great sacrafice upon making this film.

Review: I have loved this movie since it came out. It, and Tim Burton's first Batman, are the two greatest comic book film adaptations in existence. The dark, grungy soundtrack is a perfect fit for The Crow's shady, rainy, dreary world. This is a must-watch movie, and I would highly recommend buying the soundtrack too. The Collector's Edition DVD is a great addition to anyone's media library, even if they already have the old DVD. I was expecting the Collector's Edition to be, like most other DVD Collector's Editions, packed full of worthless extras that I wouldn't watch more than once. However, this movie is one of the few to actually give justification for paying extra for the bonus material. The commentaries are good. The deleted scenes are mildly interesting, but nothing I would watch a second time. The concept art for the posters is worth a look. The real gem in this collection, and the thing that justifies the entire purchase, is the profile of James O'Barr, the odd creator of one of the greatest comics of all time. The interview gives an interesting history of the man's life and sheds light on his reasons for creating The Crow. His story is as tragic and beautiful as the fictional story in his comic. Definitely give it a look.

Summary: This has it all
Review: This DVD has it all, and is well worth the extra price. First of all there is a great movie. The Crow is a cult classic, but I don't mean to demean it at all by calling it one. Based on the comic book of the same name, The Crow has a great premise (a man comes back from the dead to avenge the death of the woman he loves) and is made well. It's a dark film made in muted, dark colors, almost black and white. The action sequences are great (after all, Brandon Lee is Bruce Lee's son). This would have been Brandon's break-out role if he hadn't died. It also has one of my favorite fight scenes, the shoot out at Top Dollar's. And Ernie Hudson is surprisingly good in his role in the film. And a great soundtrack. The DVD is loaded with extras. There is commentary by Jeff Most (producer and executive music producer of the Crow movies) and John Shirley (co-writer of The Crow). Their commentary is almost as good as the film. You get a lot of insight into the movie, how it was made, and why certain choices were made. This is what DVD commentaries should be like. (It is a shame that Brandon Lee was unable to do a commentary, it would have been very interesting to see what he had to say about the film). Most's commentary is very informative and very entertaining. My only fault with the commentary is that there wasn't much on Brandon's death. I really expected to hear more about it, since it is such a huge part of the mythos of the film. Also on disc one is the DVD-ROM extras. There is the script that you read the same time the film is playing. There is a trivia game (which really isn't that great and is about the entire Crow franchise and not just this movie). You can also watch the "enhanced playback track" which has trivia and other features as the film plays. In addition to the usual production stills, posters, and (five) story boards (one of those is the story board for the Shoot Out at Top Dollar's and it is very interesting to see), Disc 2 contains a Behind the Scenes featurette that runs about 15 minutes. It is not a making of, rather those involved with the movie (including Brandon Lee) discuss the movie and concept. There is a 30 minute Portrait of James O'Barr (creator of The Crow comic book) which is O'Barr in his basement talking to someone holding a video camcorder. You get a lot of insight into his life, his work, the movie, Hollywood, and where many of his ideas for The Crow came from. There is something called the Deleted Footage Montage, but it really isn't deleted footage. There is some deleted footage in the montage, but most of it is outtakes, alternate takes, behind the scenes footage, and what looks like scenes that weren't deleted from the movie. It's a touching 'tribute' to Brandon Lee, but not what it should have been. And finally there are three extended scenes (The Arcade Bombing; Fun Boy Fight; Shoot Out at Top Dollar's). What makes these so interesting is that you see what the original footage was and how they edited the scene to make it move so fast paced. You see the decision process in removing unessential footage to keep the movie from bogging down. So you have a great movie and some really good extras on this DVD. Definitely one that should be in your library.

Review: This is my favorite movie of all time. There's been great movies like Blade, Matrix and the new movie Queen Of The Damned, but to me, nothing tops The Crow and I'm begining to think that that no movie will ever top The Crow. The other 2nd Crow movie City Of Angels was pretty good and the last Crow movie was watchable, but not that great. It's the first Crow character Eric Draven, played by Brandon Lee that really made the movie complete. I was deeply sad when he was killed on the movie set.

Review: On the outside, The Crow may look dark and twisted, a tale of revenge. However, depsite dark elements, this movie has an amazing story, and truthfully is more a story about how true love transcends all, even death. You will have to see this movie to understand just how wonderful it truly is. This is a must have DVD for any collection.
