Summary: DO I NEED ANOTHER VIEWING?
Review: I expected a lot more from this movie, and as with many other movies, I might do well to watch it a second time to fully appreciate it. It might change my opinion dramatically. For now, though, I can say that the excellent cast and the hype I had heard excited me to the point that this film turned out to be quite disappointing for me. Generally I love all the actors featured here, so I hoped for something a bit more... compelling.
How about I watch it again and make another assessment?

Summary: Spectacular
Review: This movie focuses on an area called Champion City, where the cities' main superhero, Captain Amazing (Greg Kinnear) , is mad over the fact that he has already eliminated all of the cities' super villians. To make his job more exciting, he releases an old villian from a nuthouse (Geoffrey Rush) Casanova Frankenstein, to continue his action. But an un-expected turn of the tables ends up with Captain Amazing captured, it's up to the "Mystery Men" to save the day. Also featuring Ben Stiller, William H. Macy, Janeane Garofalo, Hank Azaria, Paul Reubens, and Kel Mitchell. Don't question the story of this movie because that ruins it. Spectacular visuals from dark Champion City, from Janeane Garofalo's flying bowling ball (which contains her father's skull.) Very fun movie.
If you liked this movie, you MUST SEE "Rat Race!"

Summary: Lots of fun
Review: Most of the negative criticism that this movie received was a result of a misunderstanding. A lot of people thought that this was an attempt at an original storyline, miserably failed. This was actually supposed to be a satire of Batman and other such comic books. The Blue Raja? The Shoveler? Come on! :-) The movie has some great lines and scenes (Why don't you tell me? Why don't you tell me? Why don't YOU TELL ME?), and lots of funny characters, one of which can only become invisible when nobody's looking. LOL! It's a great movie, but it's time will pass.

Summary: Definitely Worth It
Review: I put off watching this movie for quite some time, simply because it looked stupid. Well, it was. But in a good way I suppose. The humor is very good, but of a certain breed (i.e. "The hammer of not bickering"). If you can allow yourself to be brought into its world, it's quite enjoyable. Stiller and Macy are great, Janeane is okay. But I think if one watches it with the idea that it is somewhat of a parody on show business, the humor will not be lost.

Summary: Funny, quirky movie
Review: This movie is definitely eccentric, but all the funnier for it. The characters are quite unlikely but make us feel all the more normal by being more like us than we expect. Many humorous moments and great quotes.

Summary: Three and a half, really.
Review: Great ideas, indifferent execution just about sums this up. It will become a cult classic due its quirkiness and a selection of a point lines. An appreciation of the sillier side of life and knowing something of comic book conventions will help an impartial viewer. The direction is stylistically limited but hey: it is supposed to be a comic. A special mention must be given to Hank Azaria, who is sublime throughout. The best lines? Either the "why Captain Amazing isn't Lance Hunt" dialogue or the Sphinx's "We are number one: all others are number two, or lower." Semantically flawless.

Summary: One Of My All Time Favorites!!
Review: This is one of those movies that is often misunderstood (like Big Trouble in Little China) by people who think the movie is taking itself seriously (which it isn't). This is a satiric view of the superhero genre and it just gets funnier every time I see it. Where else can you get lines like this (right before going into battle), "Well it looks like we've got a date with Destiny -- and she just ordered the lobster."

Summary: Not even Janeane can save this one
Review: Even if ( as always ) Ms Garofalo shines above the material, here the material is just not very funny. This is one of those movies that simply confirms that Ben Stiller is only funny in about 10% of what he does. i.e. in "Meet The Parents" and nothing else. The beautiful Claire Forlani is practically wasted as Stiller's "lurve" interset.

Summary: Warning: Contents May Be Too Subtle For Some Viewers!
Review: This film is subtle in the way that "Galaxy Quest" was subtle. It's not only an homage to super heroes,it's a parody, and a salute to fans who've had to endure ages of heroes whom are TOO perfect! So,if you enjoy subtle humour in that vein, you'll enjoy this. If you enjoy the sarcastic comedy of Ben Stiller & Janeane Garofalo, you'll enjoy this.

The story is thus: Champion City, the perfect city,is protected by the equally perfect, ever smug, and downright annoying,Captain Amazing.( Played brilliantly by Greg Kinnear ). Captain Amazing is such an obnoxious egomaniac,he even sells space on his outfit for sponsor logos! But his problems far surpass his ego,the simple fact is,he is so amazing he has put away every threatening criminal there is,and now must do something to save his own image! The solution? Unleash an insane master criminal from prison! Enter Cassanova Frankenstein ( Geoffrey Rush in grandiose villian mode! ),whom is hell bent on destroying Champion City and Captain Amazing! When the Captain underestimates Frankenstein,he winds up captured, and it's up to the 2nd string heroes to save him,and the city!

Bring on The Mystery Men,a rag tag trio of not-so-super heroes. Mr.Furious (Ben Stiller),he has the power to get really really angry! The Shoveller (William Macy),so called because he shovels really well! The Blue Raja (Hank Azaria),master of the fork and spoon! After a humiliating defeat by the Red Eye Gang, our disenchanted heroes are almost ready to throw in the towel, but when they learn of Capt.Amazing's capture....it's time to recruit more members and save the day! They get help from,The Spleen (Paul Reubens),a man who has mastered his flatulence into a weapon, The Bowler (Janeane Garofalo) wielding her cursed bowling ball, which just happens to have her dead father's skull inside it,and The Invisible Boy (Kel Mitchell),a young man who can turn invisible...as long as no one is looking! Of course no team can go fourth without a sagely vetran hero,in the form of The Sphinx(Wes Studi),a man full of deep axioms!( "You must be like the wolf pack, and not the six pack!").No,not the toughest fighting force, they are the "little guys",the average joes in spandex, fighting crime for the forces of good. And it's a laugh riot!

William Macy's sincerety as The Shoveller is great! Hank Azaria,as the slightly effeminate, poshly British, and slightly momma's boy,Blue Raja is a howl. Paul Ruebens as The Spleen is suitably creepy. Kel Mitchell as The Invisible Boy portrays a great sense of wonderment and awe.Wes Studi as The Sphinx is both stoic and annoying as the ever wise man.Tom Waits cameos as the crazy scientist who only makes "non-lethal weapons".( Such as "the blame thrower" and the "tornado in a can").Eddie Izzard also appears as the leader of The Disco Boys, and is outrageously funny.

This is the perfect party film, fun, entertaining, wierd, offbeat,a little lowbrow, but overall a good flick! Especially if you are tired of all the other perfect superhero films!
