Summary: A must-see for all true comic book fans
Review: The main trouble with Mystery Men is that it does its job so well -- lampooning all the absurdities of Western comics -- only dedicated fans of the genre can really appreciate its humor. Other viewers invariably wind up scrathing their heads and wondering what the fuss was all about. As a long-time fan of comics, I found this movie to be absolutely hysterical in places, and even endearing in others. The Mystery Men are so inept and pathetic you can't help but want them to succeed, somehow, and by the end I was literally cheering in my seat. Hats off to the Shoveler, who I believe truly deserves his own comic book. Yes, the humor can get sophomoric at times (the skunk scene in particular), but such scenes are thankfully the minority in a steady stream of clever satires.

The DVD is very well done, with trailers, commentary, behind-the-scenes interviews, and deleted scenes that are truly worth watching (I won't mention the horrid music video). It's an excellent transfer, to boot.

If you can name the secret origins and identities of at least four super heroes, be sure to check this movie out. You won't be disappointed.

Summary: Super zeros.
Review: Unfortunately the top-notch cast couldn't save this movie's weak script. The sloppy plotting might have been tolerable if this movie had a modicum of pace, but things here move at a glacial pace. The jokes are weak and the opportunity for a satirical look at super heroes is, unfortunately, totally wasted.

On the plus side: Mr Furious (the amazing Ben Stiller) is as hilarious at brooding as he is at getting really, really angry; a truly touching scene between the Blue Raja ( the highly underrated Hank Azaria) and his mother; and who could resist a film where Eddie Izzard plays one of Frankenstein Casanova's (Geoffrey Rush) Disco Kids.

Summary: Depends on your sense of humor.
Review: Judging from the reaction that the film received, you are either going to love it to death, or run screaming from the room in horrid disgust.

This movie was right up my alley in terms of the humor, with a lot of it coming from botched attempts at wit from Stiller's character. You have to be able to pay attention to detail to get a lot of the jokes, and there are times during the film when this attention is hard to give. There are rather obvious gags and jokes in the film as well, so if you don't feel like paying that much attention, and your sense of humor is compatible, you will still find the movie rather entertaining.

The comic bookish setting puts the movie into perspective, and if you are a fan of comics, this movie is probably for you.

In closing, I would just like to observe that you have to take the movie as it is and in its own setting, without applying "real world" influences and judgements on it. Just roll along, and laugh when you feel the need. I personally found the need to laugh a rather frequent one, and I was very entertained and impressed by the film and its story.

Summary: No mystery, it stunk!
Review: With an all-star cast, I thought Mystery Men would be an instant classic. This is not the case. I hated everything about this movie. It was slow, boring, and reminded me of a bad Batman movie on acid! How could Stiller and the rest of the crew do somethine so bad? It is a mystery all right!

Not even worth renting...

Summary: VERY FUNNY
Review: I saw this movie in the theaters because my friend wanted to go. At first glance the movie looked very stupid and pointless but once it was over I couldnt stop laughing when I remembered some of the jokes. It was definately a great comedy because that is how most people would act if they were super heroes. So stop reading about the movie and go rent it, you wont regret it!

Summary: Doesn't even deserve 1 star!
Review: This is by far the worst movie i have seen in a while. I think William H. Macy is an outstanding actor, but he gave off a stench of failure in this movie. I literally only laughed once, and that was at the beginning of the movie. From there on, it goes down hill. Where did they get the title Mystery Men to begin with? There is nothing mysterious about them at all. So a person can aim, and fart on command, and another thinks he can become invisible. This movie is absolutely horrible, and should not be viewed by any body between ages 1-150.

Summary: lamo
Review: Good direction not wasted a great cast and my time. I found it so bland as if some A sexual comic book geek was given millions of dollars to make a movie, and probably spent to much time in his basement doing god knows what. My 8 year old son was also board with this one. My one star rating is because the sound track was good.

Summary: its not very thought provoking, but it IS a comedy after all
Review: I know that a lot of people come on to amazon and write reviews for comedies (such as Mystery Men) and call them: stupid, puerile, juvenile, and poorly acted. I would like to ask these people what exactly they would like a comedy to be. It would certainly be fine to critizice a movie for these flaws if it were brought out to be a semi serious comedy, however mystery men is not. What mystery men provides is an amusing little break in reality that has many good one-liners, and slap stick humor. True, it will never win an oscar, for best film/director/actor but it does entertain. And really when I set out for a quick comedy movie to watch thats all I expect. If I want a thought provoking movie I'll watch Metropolis, or Schindlers list, or Saving Private Ryan. Honestly though sometimes the movie did lag in certain spots, but other than that it was fun and funny. I wouldn't suggest buying this if you are stuck up about movies and will only buy something criticly acclaimed, but if you are normal, than this is for you.

Summary: Very, Very Funny!
Review: This movie claims a constant action mode that's embedded with funny scenes and one-liners. It's familiar, but not too predictable- a blend of Batman and Ghostbusters with a twist! Chances are, you'll watch it a few times.
