Summary: I have never seen a skunk do that!
Review: This movie is so funny! Superheroes who use anger, a bowling ball, a shovel, flatulence, hokey spirituality, forks, 'invisbility' and non-lethal super-weapons: just what the world needs. And on top of all this, disco dancing thugs led by Eddie Izzard. How could this not be funny?

The every day story of a superhero being captured by a superbaddie and the super-useless enlisting the dregs of super-society to save the city.

There are marvellous touches. The skunk - watch for it, The Blue Raja's accent (and his mother's love for him), the Sphinx's cliches, the shrinking-gun (man those clothes are tight) and Tom Wait's gigolo for the elderley come weapons maker. There are also some nice twists, particularly Captain Amazing as an obnoxious attention-seeking superhero.

This movie will make you laugh and it will probably make you dress up in a plastic sheet and a hoover-hose. No matter, you too can become a superhero - just make sure you find your special niche!

Summary: Great Actors, Great Story, Bad Director
Review: This movie had a lot of potential. The concept is funny, and the director was able to pull off a few good sequences. I can give that to a commercial-director but one with more experience could have made this movie funny, and look good at the same time.

Summary: Great Random Humor!
Review: I went and saw this film when it first came out and expected it to do better. The problem was with it,random humor. If your not into random humor you won't like this.I think a lot of people went and saw this thinking it would be slapstick.

This is a great comedy, with funny performances by William H.Macy,Jeanene Gralafalo, and Ben Stiller.Remember if you like slapstick you won't like this but if you like random humor you'll love this.

Summary: No Mystery As To Why It's Brilliant
Review: In recent years, there have been certain films that act as a divining rod between those who get the proverbial "joke" and those who "don't." Tim Burton's largely underappreciated "Mars Attacks!" serves as an example. Now, we have "Mystery Men," quite possibly the best comic-book movie adaptation since the first "Batman" and certainly a comedy worthy of the box office returns that a lesser movie like "There's Something About Mary" received. Unfortunately, it didn't have that kind of random-chance luck. Running neck-and-neck with "Magnolia" for Best Ensemble Cast of 1999, "Mystery Men" fires one-liners and subtle puns faster than an AK-47, telling the story about some less-than-super superheroes. Every performance in the film is nothing short of hysterical; Hank Azaria darn near steals the show as the fork-wielding Blue Raja. Paul Reubens, as the Spleen, is top drawer, which we haven't seen from him since the first Pee-Wee Herman movie and William H. Macy's facial expressions are worth the price of the film. His henpecked Shoveler is the closest thing this film has to a straight man... which is still far off. Not to mention Ben Stiller in rare form as Mr. Furious, the very definition of "all bark, no bite" and Janeane Garofalo in a less sardonic role than we're used to as the revenge-minded Bowler. Are you excited yet? If not, don't even bother seeing it; you clearly just "don't get it." For those of you that know why you should be excited, go out and get "Mystery Men." I dare you not to hurt yourself laughing.

Summary: Mystery Men a real mystery
Review: The only mystery (excuse the pun) to me is why several DVD and film review magazines rated this film quite highly. With a strong comedy cast (Stiller, Garafalo etc...) I had high hopes for a great film. Sadly this film turned out to be a big let down. The comedy fell into two ballparks, blatantly obvious slapstick and subtle comedy thats so subtle its not even there. Theres one high point though, and thats the nonsical and nihilistic philosopher The Sphinx. His cliched sayings are the biggest and only laughs in the whole film. The quality of the DVD transfer is very high, and the added extra are quite varied (deleted scenes, origin of chars etc...). If you collect DVDs for collection sake then you'll probably get this no matter what I say, but if you are into good comedies hire it on video or DVD before you decide to add it to your collection.

Summary: Why they made this movie is a mystery to me.............
Review: This all-star cast couldn't save this lame duck movie about a group of wanna-be superheros. In Champion City, Captain Amazing is losing sponsers as all the bad guys are locked away. He needs the sponsers back, so he appeals to the parole board to let out his foe Casanova Frankstein. However Captain Amazing is set-up and held in Frankenstein castle as a prisoner. So here comes the Mystery Men - Mr.Furious who couldn't beat his way out of a wet paper bag. Spleen who has Superman power flatulence. The Shovler is level-headed family man out prove his wife wrong about his crime fighting ability. The Bowler chick who has dear dad's skull inside a custom made bowling ball....Like Mighty Mouse they're out too save the day and rescue Captain Amazing.

I found the movie too corny and stupid. I liked the Disco Kids and Mr.Furious, that was about it. A terrible waste of actors who should of know better.

Summary: What was it all about?
Review: I am a comic book enthusiast, i try to collect as many superhero comic as possible. I saw the trailer to this film and thought wow! what a great idea. Superhero's without any powers. I went out and bought it on DVD. Well, what a surprise it was when i watched it. It was one of the unfunniest films in history. Some of the concepts were great but it didnt make the grade. Rubbish im afraid. Thats all i can say. Kids may enjoy it.

Summary: Mystery Men's Appeal Is NO Mystery
Review: Anyone who's read the standard comic books or who's played Super Hero RPG's will love Mystery Men.

The personal lives of the principal players suits most every genre fiend.

From the Shoveler's marriage being on the rocks because of his heroism, to the lack of life Mr. Furious has (Batman reference here?), to the Blue Raja's living with his mother (Peter Parker reference?), to Capt. Amazing's hiding behind a pair of glasses (Superman Anyone?), this movie explores all the conventions of Superheroing at its finest. Even the merging of Lex Luthor and the Joker in the Villain with the campy theme gangs (ala the 60's Batman series) was well thought out. And would you have expected the 3rd rate heroes killing the person they were trying to save? Even by accident?

True the pacing is half-hazard, with the training session in the woods being the best example, but overall it's a great movie for Genre Fiends.

Summary: People shouldn't hand out 5 stars so easily ...
Review: I enjoyed the movie as I am a big Stiller and Garofalo fan.

But truth be told, the pacing is quite slow in some areas. Fortunately the acting and some of the more satirical humour saves the flick from total mediocrity.

Certainly better than most of the Batman 2-4 and Superman 2-4 and every other super hero flick ever created.
