Summary: An Original and Funny Parody of Superhero Movies
Review: "I will keep dreaming. I will keep dreaming, my friend, and when I wake up, you better hope you're asleep. Sweet dreams, lilac." This movie tells the story of three men (initially) who dream about being superheroes. When Champion City's superhero with sponsors, Captain Amazing, goes missing, it's up to them to save the city from Cassanova Frankenstein. They form a rag-tag band of fellow "wannabes", and with the guidance of "The Sphinx", who is "terribly mysterious", are molded into a team of superheroes. The cast of the movie is its greatest asset, ranging from Ben Stiller (from Something About Mary) to Hank Azaria (who does voices for The Simpsons) to Paul Reubens ("Pee Wee Herman"), among others. This film is a great mix of comedy and mild action. If you've ever seen a superhero movie (Batman, Superman, et al), have read comic books, or just enjoy comedy in general, buy this movie. You will not be disappointed, unless you are unable to suspend your disbelief.

Summary: Incredibly underrated, amazing film
Review: I guess I can understand why some people do not like this movie, although I do not understand why people insult those who do enjoy it. If you've never read a comic book, never watched a decent Batman movie (and I'm speaking about Tim Burton's movies, not the schlock that followed), and especially if you've never seen or read The Tick, you probably will not "get" this movie. If you've done any of the above things, you'll probably experience one of the most hilarious movies ever. The cast is simply one of the best ever collected. They all shine, especially William H. Macy as the level-headed Shoveler. Stiller and Garofalo have great chemistry, and appearances by Tom Waits and Eddie Izzard round out a terrific cast. Oh, and Paul "Pee-Wee" Reubens is in there too. I'd go through the entire cast, but there's too many, and they are all great. There are plenty of great jokes, although they are for a large part in-jokes for fans of comics and the like. And there's a lot of zany and random humor to surprise and amuse. It sincerely hurts me to hear people malign the makers, cast, and people who love this movie because they lack the proper insight. This film may not appeal to the masses but that in no way detracts from the sheer genius of Mystery Men.

Summary: Save Yourself - Don't see this movie!
Review: Wow, was I disappointed. With this cast, this movie should have been so much better, but they couldn't save it. It was just one dumb schtick after another, and none of them were funny. Fortunately I fell asleep for part of it, but my husband said he wished he hadn't bothered staying awake for it.

Summary: Good movie, if you don't mind off-color humor
Review: Short and sweet: if you don't mind off-color humor, see this movie. Rent it, buy it, whatever you like. It's absolutely mindless humor. Paul Rubens' character, for example, has the superpower of farting.

The DVD features are fairly standard stuff -- outtakes, an alternate ending, theater trailers, and director commentary. The commentary is actually fairly interesting, and spills the beans about all sorts of on-the-set humor that went on.

Sit back, relax, and laugh until it hurts. Then watch it again, looking for all the references to pop culture and other films in true B-movie style.

Summary: We've got a blind date with destiny.......

Any movie with lines like this (and there are many more), deserves five stars!

Summary: Strange yet satisfying...
Review: this movie is very strange yet very funny. it's nothing like you think. i wouldn't call it twists and turns, but that might just be what they are. I don't think that anyone has given this movie a good review (critics and the like) but i love it. it revolves around a trio of guys who want to be superheroes (the shoveler, the blue raja, and mr. furious) in a town where one man, Captain Amazing, rules the roost. When Captain Amazing goes missing, the guys decide to try and rescue him. They hold auditions for more superheroes and come up with invisible boy, the bowler (my favorite) the spleen, and the sphinx. What happens when they get to Cpt. Amazing will make you crack up and after that the rest is history. they conquer the bad guys and still can't decide on a name. Janeane Garofalo is hilarious in this movie as is a given for her and Ben Stiller as well.Iabsoloutely loved it in the theater . You have to at least see it once. It's very funny and very worth it.

Summary: Best Superhero Comedy Ever
Review: With a cast like this, how can you miss? It's a world where there are plenty of superheroes, but most of them have powers like being able to get really angry, or to shovel very well indeed. They may have stupid powers and silly dreams, but they're up against some very serious bad guys and in Bob Burden's bizarre comic-book world, there are serious consequences if would-be heroes screw up! The down-to-earth tone just makes the silly bits funnier: watch for the tryout scene, where the Mystery Men try to recruit more heroes for their big battle, and every single word Captain Amazing says. He's a jerk, but he's really hilarious.

Summary: Wouldn't use it to wipe with
Review: It's to bad that these good people actually decided to make this movie. All the actors were good but the story was so stupid that I wouldn't want anyone to waste there time or money on this movie. I can't remember a comedy that I didn't even think was funny. I'll laugh at a lot of stupid stuff but this is really, really dumb!

Summary: Very Effective As A Sleeping Pill
Review: Bad beyond belief. I warn anyone interested in renting or buying this to think again. On paper, maybe it seemed like a good idea. Another high concept Hollywood movie gone wrong. Misfit superheroes attempt to rescue Captain Amazing, battle disco-loving bad guys, and try and save the city from Casanova Frankenstein (Oscar winner Geoffrey Rush!). The Mystery Men are guys with lame special powers such as fork-throwing and farting. The problem with "Mystery Men" is that it isn't funny or exciting. It parodies the Batman series (which didn't take itself seriously anyway), but doesn't contain any laughs or action scenes worth watching. The creators of this film concentrated on making it look good, hired a good cast, and then did nothing else. "Mystery Men" is a two-plus hour endurance test. The DVD has great picture and sound and contains an audio commentary by director Kinka Usher and deleted scenes, but who cares?

Summary: What a Load of Rubbish ... -1,000 stars
Review: My boyfriend said it was funny and i had to see it, It was terrible, after 6 mins i wanted to leave, even Quiz Show was better than this movie and i left half way through that, unfortunatly i didn't get to leave this one, in the whole movie theater he was the only one that laughed.

Not reccomened to anyone with a brain, sense of humour, or a life.
