Summary: Only good for the action, but that's enough.
Review: The dialog is shallow, the acting is hammy, the plot is unoriginal and full of holes. But let's face it, this is all S.O.P. for kung fu movies, comic book movies, and often action movies in general. Some folks give it credit for the ideas of vampire society, but this is something that novelists and game designers have already been playing with for a long time now. This film gets good points with me because of the fight scenes. As a purist, and a student of two different styles of kung fu I found the opening scene to be a breath of fresh air amongst the goopy mixture of wushu and wire fighting that seems to be passing itself off as combat in so many other recent films. The beautiful sword work and overall sense of continuety of motion in this scene is well worth the price alone for me. There are some other interesting small scenes as well, but sadly, the climax fails to deliver what the opening promised; quickly deevolving into a giggley mess of overflamboyance and Highlander-ish nonsensical swordplay. But despite these last touches of disappiontment the action gets very high marks all the way.The special effects are passable, but not remarkable. The way the vampires burn away and crumble when they die is cool, the computer animated blood (again, in the climax) is not. Definatly buy it if your into action or martial arts movies, definatly don't if your looking for anything other.

Summary: good action; stale plot
Review: Take a look at the cover of Blade. Right then and there, you can tell that it will be a huge action packed slufest with a sad plot. Then watch the movie. You can easily spot what the director and crew wanted to to work on the most. The action. Which is down right awesome. The movie starts of brilliantly with the first 15 minutes being a huge night club shoot out. The music is great, and so is the action. That gets you hungrier for action then those vampires are for blood! Of course, Blade delivers with more gunfights and huge fight at the end. Action fans will enjoy. But the plot isn't there. Being adapted from a comic book, I can sort of see why, but I though the movie would add more plot to the comic. I also expected a bit more from Wesley Snipes. He is shallow throughout the movie and the only things he has to say are b movie one liners. The best performance in the movie is by Stephen Dorph, who plays Blade's vampire enemy. The special effects are pretty good most of the time, but some shots look like they weren't finished or something. Don't get me wrong here, the action in Blade will keep you on the edge of your seat from beginning to end and this movie is a lot better then those other vampire films. (From Dusk till Dawn trilogy; Dracula 2000) So sit back and enjoy the action. Just don't look for any depth.

Summary: A must have DVD for the Home Theater
Review: This movie was MADE for the Home Theater owner. It ranks right up there with the Matrix as a "must have" flick for DVD owners. Wesley Snipes finally found the action film that fits his talent, unlike Art of War, which wants so badly to be a sophisticated espionage flick (glad I got it at a discount), but became a muddled mess of bad writing so laughable it made me homicidal (to the first degree). Any way, this movie MUST have a sequel (or prequel, I don't care). Wes plays a super fly, black leather and sterling silver clad part man, part Vampire, who can live as a "day walker", unlike other Vampires, but has their strength, and unfortunately, their blood-lust. However, Wes, takes a serum that helps alleviate that lust temporarily so he can kick some non-day walking Vampire butt...both cheeks. His nemesis is non-day walking vampire Stephen Dorf, who will stop at nothing short of Bill Gates-like world domination. These two going at it throughout the movie is something for your 27 or better inch TV to feed on. Don't doubt it. Kris Kirstoffer-how-ever-you-spell-it is great as Snipes' no-nonsense helper on the vampire slaying scene, but N'Bushe Wright, though finer than my eyes can stand, needed some more work convincing me that she was a medical researcher. Buy this movie. The special effects in Blade are great, unique eye candy that had me hitting the rewind (and scan and frame by frame) over and over again. The special features, also, are pretty good, with an extensive behind the scenes featurette. You'll love it. Buy it.

Summary: Read the Comic Instead...
Review: ...because it HAS to be better than the movie! I went into this movie optimistic to see a great comic-to-film translation like the other reviews said. Unfortunately, this film completely deserves its poor box office receipts. First off, the story is almost 100% predictable: vampire hunter hunts vampires and has a final confrontation with the "head" vampire at the end--I wonder who wins? Snipes is actually decent as Blade, but his character is so robotic and one dimensional--not to mention filled with ridiculous one-liners--that Blade comes off as being thought of in a corporate board meeting, not the pages of Marvel comics. Additionally, the characterization is so miniscule and spotted that all we really know about the Blade (besides his origin) is that he likes to kick vampire booty, that is, when I can actually understand what his muffled voice is saying. The most glaring parts of the movie are the absurd holes in the plot requiring the viewer to suspend any tie to reality. I can't go into detail here without spoilers, but I have to ask: how the heck the calvalry show up? The special effects and fighting sequences were average at best, with Blade having no formidable opponents until the end "head" vampire. The best part about the movie was the idea of world-wide underground vampire network living with and bribing humans. Of course, this is never really fleshed out or explored. If you want to see a good vampire movie, or action movie, DO NOT rent this one.

Review: I really liked this DVD. Lots more extras than expected that I found interesting. The technical and creative process always interests me and this disk covers both well.

Review: This is yet another vampire movie that is not stereotypical. I liked the action, and Snipes was excellent -- probably the best role I have seen him in. The plot was really good. See it, you'll will enjoy it.

Summary: The Best Comic Movie on DVD
Review: If you like Wesley Snipes or Marvel Comics, chances are you already own this. If you like a good movie and don't mind blood or swearing then I don't know why you wouldn't already own this. This DVD has enough extras to make it the DVD to which all others are compared. The Movie itself is so good that all Marvel Comics movie's will campare themselves to. Even X-Men didn't quite measure up to this marvel. Let's hope Spider-Man is this good. So basicly all I'm saying is buy this DVD and you'll know why DVD was invented and why marvel is making movies again.

Summary: A great vampire movie
Review: This movie has two main themes: Gore and Vampires. Snipes plays Blade, a half human and half vampire person who is only that way because his mother was bitten during pregnancy. Since then he, out to look for the vampire that made him the freak he is, uses his vampiric abnormalities to kill any nosferatu he can find. It's packed with a bunch of scenes ranging from stakes to slices to vampire combustions. Then it comes to a blood filled ending where he finds that same vampire and his now vampiric mother; it all leads up to a freakish ending with a blood god and flying skeletons that really didn't make a whole lot of sense. But it made for a good fight scene. But if you're looking for a good, logical, well-written story to back up all this (what I normally prefer i.e. Gladiator) then you are looking in the wrong place. But if you like some tastefully and not-so-tastefully used gore and vampires, then this is definitely for you.

Review: Great action packed film. Sure there are a few plot holes but if you're looking for Matrix-like action, then this is a great movie. This one is a lot of fun.

Review: I collect Vampire movies but this was dreadful. It features Snipes at his most shallow and contrived. He bacically plays a flat lawnmowe style vampire killer. He literally walks into rooms ful of vampires and mows them down. Yawn. As far as action films this ranks with such stale bashers as Demolishman.
