Summary: The definition of DVD
Review: If there is one DVD worth owning its this one. After the Spawn movie left much to be desired, die hard comic book fans like myself awaited the release for Blade with mixed emotions, and what we got was a gem. Wesley Snipes brings the vampire hunter Blade to life in this martial arts blood soaked action epic. The special effects are jawdropping and the DVD picture and sound quality will leave your mouth watering in amazement. Stephen Dorff plays villanous vampire Deacon Frost and Kris Kristofferson is great as Blade's mentor Whistler (great move getting him for this movie by the way), and ex pornstar Traci Lords stars as Deacon's vampire girlfriend. With the release of 2000's X-Men, and the upcoming Spider-Man and Daredevil movies, the future of good comic book adapted films looks great.

Summary: The first GOOD Marvel Comics Movie
Review: Before "X-Men," before "Spider-Man," there was "Blade". Okay, not in the comic books, but in the realm of comic book-to-movie properties, "Blade" is the FIRST film ever based on a Marvel comic that didn't totally [stink]. (Anyone remember "The Punisher"? "Captain America"? The "Fantastic Four" movie that was so bad it never even made it to video?)"Blade" stars Wesley Snipes as the Daywalker, a human/vampire hybrid, who has made it his mission to hunt down the darker half of his own heratige. This movie is heavy on action and the special effects, and if that's what you're looking for it delivers in spades. Snipes is great and Stephen Dorff puts in a great performance as the creepy Deacon Frost. Marv Wolfman and Gene Colan, who created the character, had some legal issues with their credits involving this movie. However the legal battle turned out, they should at least be proud of the product.

Review: Westly Snipes plays " Blade", a Half-man half-Vampire who hunts for the Blood-Thristy Creatures of nighttime and must stop a evil
Criminal Vamp named " Frost" ( Stephen Dorff) that plans on ruling the Humans. It's Entertaining, Action packed, well acted
and Bloody Comic Book film adapted from the same Marvel Comics. Other similar movies i would recommend: X-Men, From Dusk Till Dawn, The Matrix, and Dracula.

Summary: Great DVD, Great Movie
Review: This is one of the best Vampire movies I have seen in a long time. Wesley Snipes looks like he was born to play this role. The fight scenes in this movie are unreal. The plot is very easy to follow and it makes sense. Stephen Dorff also does a great job as Frost. The DVD also is excellent, it has good features and good directors commentary that are actually worth WATCHING. Picture and audio is great, newline always does good with their DVD's. Watch fo Blade 2 coming in March, word is it will be a lot more violent and bloody than the first film: I can't wait to see it!

Summary: Nobody likes Wesley Snipes anyway
Review: My thoughts at the beginning of the movie ran along the lines of a confused "ok..." Basically the storyline goes that Blade (Snipes) goes around trying to kill vampires in modern cities. However the vampires seem to be fighting amongst themselves too - one particularly bad vampire named Frost overthrows the other vampires and tries to get himself to become a blood god or somesuch. I really didn't get what was going on with that - and I'm not sure I was meant to either. Anyway this movie offers some handy tips on vampire combat: crosses don't work, garlic and silver do. Snipes performs to his usual average standard of acting and puts up a mediochre performance, except in the fight scenes which turn out pretty well. He fails to display much emotion besides hatred for vampires. However, his outfit in the movie is a plus. A pretty typical storyline and an average cast is offset by decent special FX and some good fightscenes - not worth paying money to watch.

Summary: High Gore, Low Action
Review: Blade could have been really good. However, the writers and directors of this film decided to focus on lots of gross, gratuitous gore than on real action. I must admit, the opening is truely awesome. It's probably one of the best action sequences I've seen. After that, though, Blade goes down hill, with only one other cool action scene (which isn't all that great.) With Blade's cool arsenal, including shotguns, automatic pistols, stake launchers, and a katana, and his skill in martial arts, Blade could have been an action masterpiece. I would have also liked to see the katana used more often. Blade isn't a disaster, though. The previously mentioned opening rocks, there are a few suspenful moments, and I like the movie's stylish visual tone. If you're an action fan who isn't squemish or sensitive, you might want to check Blade out. If you're a gore addict, you'll surely enjoy this. Either way, there is more action and better action in many more films.

Summary: Great Effects
Review: I have always liked Vampire movies, (The Lost Boys), (Intervew with a Vampire),(fright Night). If you like any of them, then you will probably like Blade. A man who was born to a vampire is only half a vampire. He does not suffer from the weeknesses of a vampire, but he hates what he is. His mission in life is to use his own Vampire powers to destroy all vampires, but the vampires want his blood so they can be a day walker like he is. The fighting scenes are great, and the special effects are great. If you like vampires, check this one out.

Summary: Dull Blade
Review: This movie has it's moments, but not enough. Wesley Snipes is an actor of questionable acting skills. The character is someone you can't root for or even remotely like. This movie is way, way overrated. Stephen Dorff is a good actor, but he's an awful villain. Kris Kristofferson is a good guy too, but his character is as cliched as they come. Not a good movie at all.

Summary: The DVD? A frosty reception.
Review: The first ten minutes of this film are so visually striking that you know the climax won't outdo it so why go on watching? And thus it proves. The film starts off by risking your goodwill when a young buck is invited to a rave that uncomfortably borrows from a scene in 'Schindler's List'. Very distasteful, guys. This is an unusual rave, in any case. Ravers with a tab stuck in two fangs? Either way, the young buck has a lucky escape as the less than friendly ravers suffer a dehydration problem rarely seen at an all-nighter. Love the names in this flick. Krieger. Abraham Whistler. Dragonetti. Blade, also known as Eric *giggle*. Better than Fred, I suppose. Is this a Phillip Ridley film? Oh, I nearly forgot Deacon Frost. Mostly because he's hard to see without cricking your neck. He should be called Deacon Blue, he's a 'real gone kid'. In fact, he's positively dead. Deacon Frost, who fancies himself as 'the man', has trouble stamping authority on the proceedings due to his aforementioned lack of stature. I'm sorry to hark on about it, but it's the dominating distraction in the film. As I recall, Christopher Lee was a lot more impossing playing Dracula due to his height but Dorff reminds me of an anorexic Freddie Starr, although he won't be eating any hamsters. They're taller than he is. His dress sense doesn't do him any favours in the world domination stakes either, his natty seventies puce velvet suit and flares invokes pity rather than terror. Dorff's face betrays the fact that the material is beneath him and it's hard to imagine anything getting beneath this diminutive Nosferatu (I know the lingo!) Anyway, truculent and obviously suffering from an inferiority complex, he noticeably stays on his feet around a conference table of distinctly wishy-washy vampire mafiosi. Unfortunately, when he eventually sits down in a leather chair he practically disappears altogether. He needs to get out more, which being a vampire is hard. Or is it? in a very funny scene he gets to go out in broad daylight by wearing make up. What about his eyes and hair? Don't their clothes usually set fire anyway? perhaps he greased them up too. Hey, slimy guy, slimly suit. But to get back to Deacon's height problem which I'm trying not to do, but can't help it. I mean, forget Blade, they should have got Buffy the vampire slayer to tackle him, at least they'd be eyeball to eyeball. With Blade, Deacon Frost is eyeball to, well, modesty prevents me. Anyway, this means war, albeit from Lilliput. The world's too small for both of them, and Mr Frost is too small to even audition for a remake of 'The Incredible Shrinking Man' (why can't they make em like they use to?) But as I said before, I'll try not to mention it. You know, THE GLARING HEIGHT THING. There are more important considerations. Such as Wesley Snipes who plays Blade with the usual nonchalance we wearily expect from him. He is aided by a doctor played by N'Buste Wright in a performance so flat you could fax her to the set. Her indifference to the sudden knowledge of the existense of vampires could make her an early target for recruitment by the 'Utraviolet' vampire squad (based in the UK) who memorably acted as if they were working in a mundane capacity for the local council. Ms Wright has an archetyple James Bond moment when she is tossed into a cell to face something nasty but is blessed with possibly the biggest air vent in film history to crawl out of. Kris Kristofferson fairs better as a grizzled old vampire hunter and is rather fun. Since the advent of video games, Hollywood has felt an unnecessary need to compete with the former's kineticism with predictably silly and tedious results and the trend sadly shows little signs of abating. Vampiric.

Summary: Lots and lots and lots of blood
Review: Blade is a thrilling movie, with a good, exciting plot, sexy male and female characters, swearing and blood. Lots and lots and lots and lots of blood. Wesley Snipes is the best vampire slayer ever - Buffy, eat your heart out. My only criticism of the film is that there is just too much blood. It's obviously fake, and does tend to get a bit boring after a while. Best bits: 1, Frost exploding at the end, 2, The Vampire dico at the start, where all the blood comes out of the sprinklers and their fangs grow! Eugh!(Definitely not suitible for a teenager like myself, but just don't tell my mum...)
