Summary: One of the greatest films of the 1990's
Review: With the likes of Pokemon and Digimon sweeping the world today I hear of people talk of how big these crazes are. But I was part of a craze the likes of which had never been seen before or since - Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a force that even Pikachu could not hope to crush. The first film was an excellent, darkly comic look at the four mutant heroes, their master splinter and evil nemesis shredder. Sadly however, even this classic could not escape the BBFC's hacksaw, sentenced to the censors chopping board were all Michaelangelo's fabulous nunchaku scenes and even the climactic ending. The result being a severely hacked up film with glaring gaps in it; having seen the full version early on it was then quite irritating to have to watch an incomplete version of the film time and time again. On DVD, this time honoured classic is immortalized in its true form, a film for both young and old, about heroism, sacrfice, good and evil. I never tire of this film and wouldn't hesitate to recommend this to anyone. The only downfalling of the series being the weaker sequels which seemed to have been conditioned to conform to the cartoon format of the early morning TV show, these films lost the dark edge and comic book roots which made this first film so good. Having just read that another director may try to breathe life into the turtles once again, it is hard to imagine that no matter how good a new film would be, it will be near impossible to get as good as the original.

Summary: Godfather? Step aside...
Review: If there ever was a movie to define early 90's Americana, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles would definelty be the prime choice. Almost 12 WHOLE YEARS after it's release date, a movie that was geared at kids is STILL entertaining! Can Power Rangers do that? NO! Can Pokemon do that? HECK NO! No one beats the Ninja Turtles. Ninja Turtles, the Original Movie is hands down the best of the trilogy (Who really care about #4 anyways?). The humor in here is great and even though you get such morbid visions as Shredder being crushed by a garbage truck, there is still an underlying message about "teamwork" and all that corny horse.... Raphael was awesome as the outcast who went against everyone else. Michaelangelo and Donatello provided the comic relief and Leonardo was the pretentious leader. All the characters in this movie are different and have their own personalities, which is something no. 3 was lacking. If you want some harmless, no-brainer fun, rent or BUY this movie now! Don't listen to Leonard Maltin, he's just too jaded to enjoy movies like this. "I made a funny!"

Summary: I Always Loved it
Review: I love this one man I like saw it when I was like 5 and I still love it and the whole turtles series. Now I can say from my point of view is they should bring the turtles back (both cartoon wise and movie wise) becuase my little brother is now into them (he just started watching old episodes I had on tape of the cartoon and the first movie) which tells me that this is a timless searies that should be taking back. The only reason why the cartoon died in its latter years was that the writting wasn't as good as the early one and didn't have the same formula. I just have to say this is actualy the best of the movie searies (my second favrite being the second movie and the third being my least faverite). So really this is a great movie so check it out.

Summary: Ahh...childhood flashbacks
Review: Please don't study this movie as a "film"....it did it's job perfectly, it brought the Turtles to life for a generation who loves them. If you were a turtle fan, you owe it to yourself to have this DVD on your rack. As a DVD...not so great, it could have been done much better. The film is in bad shape, (batmanish quality) and extras are just not there, and what is is a bunch of ads. (I HATE that!) I'm looking for a Turtles Special Edition at some point....?

Review: First off, let me start by stating that "Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The Original Movie" is, not only the best "comic book" movie I've ever seen, but also one of the greatest movies I've ever seen, period.

Summary: Still a cool movie when you're fourteen
Review: I honestly feel sorry for this generation of kids, cause they all turn up their noses at the really good kid's movies like this. Sure, so the idea of mutated pizza-loving reptiles who also have martial arts abilities seems stupid, but I'd say the plot has a lot more potential than all the fluff out there that is all parents consider appropriate anymore. I can't really describe what it is about this movie. It just has a certain mood that they don't quite capture in any of the sequels. And it actually does have drama in it, though you wouldn't THINK that a bunch of turtles and a rat could make you cry. One thing I love about this movie is that all of the turles have their own personality; in the sequels and the more recent cartoon version they all act exactly alike, and are all, well, STUPID. Probably my favorite scene is the long fight in April O' Neill's apartment; from the point where the enemies bust in through the ceiling to where the fire starts and then they all go to...well, maybe I shouldn't spoil anything. Just go out and rent this, watch it with the kids, see if they prefer it over their little Power Rangers and Dragonball Z.

Summary: STILL a great movie...
Review: Back in about 1988, a phenomenon erupted. Nobody knew exactly what was so cool about this phenomenon, but every kid in the country had to have the figures, video games, board games, Halloween costumes, etc. The Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles have unfortunately grown old, briefly resurrected by an unwelcome live-action Fox Kids television program a few years ago. But, oh, during the turtle hype... what a glorious time for kids it was. And when their first feature length film came out, kids dragged their parents to go see it. The kids (myself included) naturally loved the film. It was the hot topic during lunchtime in the school cafeteria. The Turtles were dominating EVERYTHING... Ten years later, for me at least, the film is still as entertaining as ever. When I first saw it, I couldn't have cared any less about the script or plot. I just wanted to see the four boys in action. Yet watching it now, I'm impressed at how well-made it actually is (the lighting, in particular). Is it technically five-star material? I think so. Some would disagree, but you simply can't down a franchise that you grew up with. And you can't expect a 40 year old movie critic to rave about the movie when he has no idea where it's derived from. What shocks me the most is how people talk about how bad the script is. I'm now 19 years old, and some parts of this movie had me cracking up. ("The only thing safe in the woods... would be the trees!") And it's not just the humor, either. The dramatic elements in the movie are much more tense and involving than they have any right to be. The bottom line is that this film is VASTLY underrated. And people shouldn't down it just because it was loved by millions of kids across the globe. If you ask me, children have the upper hand when it comes to watching a movie. They want nothing more than to be entertained, and are less demanding than adults are. Give the movie a shot and don't be such a prude. If you're expecting a "kiddie" movie sprinkled in abundance with watered-down action and stupid dialogue, then you're in for a big suprise. This is one of the moodiest PG movies I've ever seen. "I have always liked... 'Cowabunga.'"

Summary: Oh, Maltin, you wouldn't know a good movie if...
Review: This movie is a perfect example of why I can't stand movie critics, especially Maltin. The guy wouldn't know a good movie if one fell out of the sky and nailed him in the head. Just 'cause he doesn't "get" a film, it instantly gets relegated to the realm of crap. That's sad. Particularly because Maltin consistantly dogs good films and praises junk, and especially because Turtles I is a damn good film! It ain't Gone With the Wind by any means, but it's a fine family film with all the elements (action, drama, fine humor, and even a moral). My favorite reason for endorsing this film? It's EVERYTHING the '89 Keaton Batman film SHOULD have been...and WASN'T. Every so often you hear comic books fans throw around the names of "The Great Comic Book Adaptions" (meaning films adapted from comic books). You always hear Superman (deservedly so), Batman (ugh! I don't care what anybody says, they all sucked. "Mask of the Phantasm" was the ONLY great Batman film!), and X-Men. But right up there in the top 5 or so should be TMNT. Except for their ties to Marvel Comics' Daredevil (the Turtles were created as a parody of DD's origin), the movie follows the comics amazingly close and accurate without being "comic-booky" like the god-awful "Batman and Robin".
