Rating: Summary: Great, mindless entertainment - a great Western in space Review: From a 41-year old professional: I went to this movie for a mindless escape and had a great time. Of course, you must suspend any understanding you have of physics...but, so what? It was a lot of fun to watch and held my interest all the way through. While my favorite movies do tend to be serious movies with extensive dialogue ("To Kill a Mockingbird" , "Guess Who's Coming to Dinner" and "Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf?" rank amongst my favorites), this movie was a pleasant surprise. In fact, I took two 15-year old girls and two 12-year old boys. The girls liked it better than Titanic and cried more at the end. And the boys both cried at the end as well. I find it amusing that people degrade this movie for being so unrealistic. It's pure entertainment and not meant to be taken seriously. It's dumb, funny, exciting, and grabs your emotions. I felt much more patronized by the much exalted "Titanic" with its inane and juvenile love story which was much less believable when you understand the historical and cultural context of the era. While not usually an action movie fan, I will gladly go couch potato to watch my copy of "Armageddon" to escape the rigors of everyday life.
Rating: Summary: It was a great movie, people don't see movies for realism. Review: Ya know, Anyone who goes to see a movie to make sure it is realistic is going to be disappointed 99% of the time. Movies are made to entertain, and Aramageddon certainly did that. It had all the action, all the drama, and of the special effects it takes to be a great movie. The acting wasn't bad, no matter how you look at it. For those people who watch movies to critisize its realism, get a life and watch a movie for what it is worth, as entertainment.
Rating: Summary: Great action pack-suspense film. Review: I think all the actors played a tremendous part in the action thriller that it became. Putting Bruce Willis in there was a great idea. If you ever decide to make another video like that you best be using Bruce Willis. Plus the soundtrack was the best soundtrack that I have heard since Men In Black or even Scream.
Rating: Summary: If it's good on tape, it has to be better on dvd Review: absolutly the best movie of all time. With great special effects and no stop action. Who wants to miss it?
Rating: Summary: Two thumbs up... Review: This movie kicked butt...definitely better than Deep Impact. It was one of my favorites this year. The special effects were great, despite technical discrepencies.
Rating: Summary: the best on earth or in space Review: This is by far the best movie I have ever seen. I have never been so toched by a movie befor in my life! The way the plot is done is unbeliveuble but leaves you seriously wondering. The film has everything to ask for in a film. Its got a wonderful love story, so much suspence that you wont be able to take your eyes off it for a second, and its so funny that you better not eat before you see it if you want to keep your food down. If you liked or hated Deep impact, I personally hated it, than either way you'll love this movie. If you think that your a big man and this is a little sissy movie be prepaired because as I watched Not only did my dad cry, my Grandpa cried, my brothers cried, and my uncle cried. This was the most helarious movie I have ever seen! Even if you dont like the scientific portion of the movie you are gaurinteed to laugh your butt off. If you havent seen it and you think you will hate it rent it any way!!!!You might just be suprised. This is a great movie to watch weither your a guy or a girl!!!!!!
Rating: Summary: Silly but still absolutely brilliant! Review: The cinematic equivalent of a rollercoaster ride! Of course it's an impossibility to train new astronauts in a week, and especially let them into space with the way they were behaving at NASA, but this is pure Hollywood hokum. And an asteroid heading for Earth can be detected a lot longer than a week away, as was portrayed in DEEP IMPACT. However, despite the dumbness of parts of the storyline, and a sometimes unintentionally hilarious script which resembles a trashy romance novel mixed with a Grade Z 1950s sci-fi movie, thie movie still deserves five stars and DELIVERS! The effects deserve an Oscar, most notably the meteor shower on New York at the start, Paris being levelled by an asteroid fragment(take that you EuroDisney hating Frogs! Ha ha!) and the AWESOME space scenes! The souped-up shuttle idea with additional boosters might be a feasible idea one day as well. But if one was faced with a similar situation - the threat of extinction - what would one do? A lively answer is provided, and this is definitely the 'action comedy' version of DEEP IMPACT. As for the cast, Steve Buscemi rates the funniest with his wisecracking, and Ben Affleck's theory on animal crackers during the love scene with Liv Tyler! The musical soundtrack is also highly rateable, especially the Aerosmith ballad which climbed high in the charts in the UK too. Altogether, if you want action, thrills, explosions, special effects, comedy, romance, and you loved effects-laden movies like INDEPENDENCE DAY and VOLCANO and ALIENS, then this is definitely for you! In my personal view, though, although myself and my wife enjoyed this one, on the whole, DEEP IMPACT is better for its realsitic portrayal of humanity in such a crisis.
Rating: Summary: Can you Love it AND Hate it? Review: This movie is so over-the-top and ridiculous, you really need to leave any sense of realism at the door. Every stereotypical, action-movie element, character and montage is here, complete with rock video editing and blaring guitars, women weeping for their men, tough guys with heart. On the other hand, you can't help but watch and then cheer when the good guys save the day, and our hero returns to the woman he loves. If you consider yourself a film critic, stay away, it's horrid (ack, that dialogue!) But if you're looking for a wild adventure in space, and you don't need to use your brain for 2 1/2 hours, take a seat and enjoy!
Rating: Summary: This is a fantastic movie. Review: This movie hits upon every major emotion. A must see. Bruce Willis and Ben Affleck are great.
Rating: Summary: The movie Armageddon is one of the best films around. Review: Although I will admit that I am not a SCI-FI fan, I thought that Armageddon was great. I know that some parts of it weren't technically correct and that some things seemed pretty unbelievable. In spite of that, it has extreme appeal to the emotions. One minute you are laughing and the next you are crying. I think that criticizing this movie for it's non-political-correctness is a bit over the edge. It is just a fun movie, not a political debate.
