Summary: You don't have to be a kid to still watch The Witches
Review: I saw this movie when I was about 7 or 8, and I received it as a gift only a couple years ago; I am 16 now and I still watch it. The movie makes you wonder if there really are witches all around the world. Every now and then, I look at anybodys eyes to see if they are purple!

Summary: Best witch film ever !!
Review: I think this is the best witch film ever !! The witches look preety scary, and it's not a really suitable for young kids, they will think that there're really witches in the world. anyway, it was a good film.

Summary: I'd give it a hundred stars if I could
Review: I'm not sure how long it's been since I first saw this movie...bu I know I've always lovd it so much. It's totaly magical and family friendly... No computer generated images. Very rare to find a good movie these days - but this one's definitly awesome!

Summary: Fantasy film at its best!
Review: If you are dazzled by Jim Henson's creativity, Roald Dahl's flair for story-telling, Anjelica Huston's diabolically wicked acting or any combination of these three you will LOVE "The Witches." A great family movie but also a superbly made film. I highly recommend it!

Summary: a big don't for pagans
Review: If you are pagan this movie is not for you. Yet again we are the bad guys and this movie is really scary if you are trying to raise pagan kids. It's truly a hideous amount of time you don't need to lose out of your life. This recommendation comes up if you order a lot of fantasy or pagan titles because of its theme.
Anjelica Huston even scared the pants of our coven on our movie watching night. Its very negative until the end and the good witch appears at the end and you almost miss the fact that she's supposed to be a good witch.

Summary: its a good movie

Summary: This isn't Elizabeth Montgomery type of witching
Review: Little boy and his grandmother who have had brushes with witches before end up staying at a hotel that just so happens to be hosting a convention of witches. The boy soon discovers their huge plot to rid the world of children slowly and is turned into a mouse. What shapes itself into a really interesting shocker becomes unoriginally formula oriented and wants to be reguarded as an adventure instead of a one and only. Huston is VERY good under the circumstances.

Summary: One of the best Fairy tales I've seen
Review: Loved the story, loved the actors. I bought this movie before DVDs were born, and when the DVD came out I bought it too. I keep watching out for a remastered version (like a lot of remade action movies) with DTS or Dolby Digital audio 5.1 but still no luck. Anjelica Huston is one of those rare American actors/actresses who can hold their own amid an all-English cast.

Summary: stunning!
Review: Luke's Norwegian grandmother loves to tell him scary stories about witches when he visits from America. She's not trying to frighten the little boy, she just wants to warn him of the real dangers that lurk out in the world. See, when she was a girl, she lost one of her good friends to the evil magic of a neighborhood witch. And, after hunting them down all her life in search of the Grand High Witch, she even lost part of a finger. Actually, against the witches in this film it's amazing that's all she lost! One fateful night, while Luke is in his grandmother's care as his parents enjoy an evening out, tragedy strikes! Luke's mom and dad are killed in a car accident. Now Luke is alone with his grandmother, and she is not in the best of health. When she has a diabetic attack on Luke's birthday (man, this kid has it rough!), the doctor decrees that they should take a short vacation. Off Luke and Grandmother go, to a grand, luxurious hotel in England. But the bad luck continues, as the Grand High Witch is holding her annual Witch Convention in the same hotel at the same time! Witches from all over the world are running about the hotel in disguise, and if you don't catch the purple glint in their eyes, you'll never know who they are.
Angelica Huston plays the Grand High Witch, who has an evil plot to change all the world's children into mice with tainted candy bars. With her suitcase full of money and her tiny bottles of potion, she will send each of her witches to a different city, where they'll each open up a candy store and let the horror begin! A tubby little boy named Bruno is also staying at the hotel and is the first victim of the evil trick, as The Grand High Witch uses him as a demonstration for the others. But Luke witnesses the whole thing, and so they immediately change him as well. Now it's up to these two little mice to stop the Witches from leaving the hotel and carrying on with their wicked plan! But being a mouse in a huge hotel full of people is hard enough without having to worry about The Witches!
The Witches is such a wonderful film for Halloween or anytime! The story is enchanting, and the whole portrayal of the witches was wonderful. This is the way I like to see Witches on film! Long noses, ugly faces, and pure evil! Like in Hocus Pocus and the Wizard of Oz! These are the scariest types of witches in my opinion, the way I always envisioned them as a kid, and I wish we'd get to see more films with witches like this! I wish they had made two versions of this movie. This one, which I loved, and a second one that would just be an out and out horror film. The first half had the makings of a great horror film in the tradition of great studios like Hammer and Amicus! Oh well, as I said, I love the film as it is, and it makes a great, scary, family film, something we could use more of! I would've LOVED to have seen some good sequels at least. The casting of Angelica Huston was perfect, the mood and atmosphere was brilliant, especially the opening back story, and Jim Henson's work was masterful as usual. Everyone should own a copy of this film, though be warned that it IS scary for little kids, but it also teaches some good lessons on avoiding strangers bearing gifts and candy.
Now, for some reason, Warner Bros. insists on releasing its family films in Full Screen only. This is evident with other titles such as Space Jam, which I do own, and the latest Willy Wonka DVD, which I have yet to purchase for that very reason. It's an annoyance, and the lack of any extras doesn't help, but I suppose it's still an upgrade from my old VHS, since it is DVD.

Summary: too scary for little kids!
Review: only watch this one with kids ages 5 and up.definetely not good for small children.i had nightmares from this movie when i was real little! other than that this is a very well made movie.should definetely win some awards.i didnt give it five because of a huge boring part that must have took up 20 minutes of the movie!the witch meeting or something.or maybe that was the book.....oh well.i dont remember if it was boring in the movie or the book.the book was more funnier because it had a lot of details about the witches.if you like Roald Dahl books, you'll LOVE this movie
