Summary: good movie..poor quality
Review: I saw this movie a few years ago...and it is still one of my absolute favourites. Sean Connery and Lambert does a great performance. I started thinking i was watching a documentary of immortals or something...almost hiding behind the couch in order to not get my head cut off. The atmosphere of the movie is encredible. The only bad thing is the sound(horrible)...its better than vhs but not much. The people behind this dvd really messed the thransfer up. If u are a big fan of highlander then you will probably buy this anyway, but for the rest of us its not worth it. It contains the worst got damn sound Ive ever heard in a dvd. Rent the movie or record it from cable instead, dont buy this.

Review: This is a GREAT film, with a pathetic transfer. It's like they would have had to WORK to make it look as bad as it does. I have tried to contact THX and find out how this disc got their certificatioin, but they haven't responded. Simply put; this is the worst DVD I have ever seen. I love this movie, and what they did to it with the amazing level of grain on this disc is just plain wrong. I have an old video tape, recorded off cable, that is FAR superior to this cut. Don't buy this disc.

Summary: Okay, but pretty corny.
Review: The setting was very wired (New York? -- er...). It could havebeen much better if it had taken place through the centuries and spentmore detail on the emotional battles between the immortals. Oh, and also, the pathetic idea of the prize was maddening. Besides that, the villain was not fleshed out, but this was the 80s, so why should I expect character development in the 80s if we in the 90s have so little of it? I don't get the relationship between Ms. Phorensics and our enigmatic hero. One minute they are telling each other to go away and the next they are kissing. Did I miss something? Probably. Did the script writer miss something? Definitely.

Summary: ONE OF MY ALL-TIME FAVORITE MOVIES!
Review: After several years I've finally had the chance to see Highlander again and it still remains one of my all-time favorite movies. Sure, compared to what we're used to nowadays, it may be a bit cheesy. But for the 1980's, the storyline and the effects were great. The only problem with the VHS version, and the only reason it gets 4 stars instead of 5, was the missing World War II scene which introduces us to Rachel and to the beautiful phrase: "It's a kind of magic." which, in Europe, is included in all videos and not just in the Director's cut. And, in response to a viewer from Minnesota...Christopher Lambert's accent is French as he is a Frenchman who started off in movies in his homeland before hitting it big as Connor Mcleod from the clan Mcleod.

Summary: Judge for yourself
Review: I read most of the reviews of this DVD and it almost put me off buying it. Eventually I decided that I liked the film too much and went and bought it. What did I think? Well to be honest I can't see what all of the fuss is about. The DVD is not "unwatchable" as everyone suggests. Sure, it's not the kind of quality that we are used to being spoiled with and that's that problem...we're used to seeing DVD films with top-notch sound and picture quality. So when one comes along of a less than perfect standard, it jumps out in contrast and everyone totally assasinates it.

I agree that a re-transfer might be beneficial since this was a fairly early DVD and the encoding leaves much to be desired. I played it through some very high quality AV hardware with all sorts of noise reduction and sound/picture enhancements in place which no doubt helps a little.

In my opinion, if you like this film and you don't already own it, then buy it. If it does get re-transferred in the future then buy that as well.

Summary: A true cult-classic!!
Review: Before seeing this movie, I didn't know much about the highlander. But after seeing this picture, the Director's cut, I was hooked! I think the storyline is excellent, and the actors are great, especially Lambert. It definitely takes you to your imagination very well...the concept of immortals about us..wandering..never dying. Trying to survive to reach the gathering....IT'S INCREDIBLE!!!

Summary: The way it was ment to be done.
Review: I have video and LD versions of this movie, but they just didn't do it for me. In Australia I found that our version was cut different then the American, and this version is what we saw at the Movies here. The scene changes are great from past to now, and it helps the flow of the story. This is the version I love the one I saw at the cinema, and at last I have seen the trailers that I have not seen in such a long time. A definate buy for any Highlander fan.

Summary: I've Seen Home Videos With Better Picture Quality
Review: Now, don't get me wrong. The film is very good. It has a lot of action, humor, and some 80's cheese, but the DVD is almost unwatchable. The picture is more granier than the VHS version. This is, hands down, the worst DVD transfer I have ever seen. Please, do not waste your money on this DVD. The cover says that this DVD has THX certification!?!? Yeah, right, and so does the video that I filmed of my family opening Christmas presents last year.

Summary: Excellent!!!
Review: One of the greatest movies of all time, Russell Mulcahy is a great director, the storyline is one of those you don't see everyday, the music is great, the VHS version is one of the best formats ever.
