Summary: THE SHORT STORY IS MUCH BETTER-BUT A GOOD MOVIE
Review: It's hard to believe that the Running Man is based on a Stephen King short story. I probably would have enjoyed the movie more not knowing this. Stephen King's short story is completely different than the movie and much better. As far as the movie itself, it is very fun and exciting to watch.A typical Arnold action flick. The characters (especially the stalkers) are very colorful and well cast. Schwarzenegger is the undisputed king of the fun to watch action flick. Check out Total Recall and Terminator 1&2 also. Great way to spend a Sunday afternoon when there is no football on TV!!!

Summary: an above-average sc-fi adventure made possible by Arnold
Review: (minus one star for the sound)I have seen this movie several times, mostly on television, and I have always found it to be a very exciting and watchable movie. Like other reviewers, my biggest problem with the movie is that it is the same scene over and over. But even so, when you throw in Arnold (i still cant spell his last name), you are guaranteed to taken for the ride of your life. while not an actor with much dramatic range, he still seems to be the only actor who can appear in a movie like this and make it seem like it was the role he was born to play. Dawson is terrific as the almost-likable villian Killian, and the girl in this goes perfectly with arnolds character. If you like action, blood, excitment, and more blood, then check this one out. It may not be the most intellegent movies to come out of the 80's, but it is one the most fun and exciting. Now, whay isn't there a dolby digital track on this disc? I thought the main point of owning dvds is the picture AND the sound. pro logic may cut on vhs, but not on dvd. I'm waiting to see if they'll rerelease it with dts or dd. good movie, cheap disc.

Review: Arnold has made a lot of 3 or 4 star outa 5 star movies in my opinion & he had to make this one. What for? This one has no good story and just isnt a very good sci fi film. The action was fairly poor I thought! Once the game starts,everything is way downhill from there. Normally in arnold movies, the plot isnt the best, but it still entertains you, which this one seizes to do. It seizes to entertain you.

Summary: Wasted Potential
Review: The only reason I'm giving this two stars instead of one is because the sound was pretty good, especially considering this is one of the first movies rushed out for DVD when the format was still very young.My memories of this movie were that it was fast-paced, well-acted, with kick-ass action sequences. Unfortunately, it's not. The acting is incredibly stiff, very little is left for the audience to figure out (in the first minute you know everything you need to know about Arnold's character), the "villains" are laughable, and there really isn't that much action other than ducking and hiding. I really never believe him as anything but Arnold sleep-walking through the part. People seem to not like more recent action movies (as a whole), claiming that they're not as good as they used to be. This movie is a prime example of one that was never as good as it used to be. Perhaps there was some energy or attitude around the time it was made, but viewed after seeing such films as Face/Off, The Fifth Element, or Tomorrow Never Dies, it just stinks from beginning to end. Not that the films mentioned are even the best of the genre, but it goes to show that even today's mediocre fare is much better than yesterday's top choices. But I'm not sure that's so true. Other actions flicks of the same period DO hold up. Movies like the original Terminator and Batman, not to mention oodles of Bond films, still hold up. So I think this was one movie that just capitalized on the rising power of Arnold, threw in a few tricks and stylistic choices that were in fashion, and left it at that. Sure, there are a few good one-liners ("I could snap your neck like a chicken!"), but they're peppered into a whole steaming heap of horrible ones. Too many one-liners ruin any effect the good ones may have had otherwise. The only interesting things about this movie is that the game show is only a few programming changes away from Who Wants To Be A Millionare (the US version), down to the stampeding claim of being a new style of game show, and the top draw ever. Richard Dawson even has a shiny shirt (and Reeg has those shiny ties). But aside from that and the laughable late-80's fashion (I guess it was retro in 2017?), there's not much to recommend this movie. If you have good memories of it, keep them that way.

Summary: A lot of fun.
Review: Yes, this movie follows all the cliches of 80's action films. But, how many of those 80's action were as fun and funny as The Running Man? This is one of my favorite Arnie movies, after the Terminator films. If you have read the Stephen King book but have not seen this movie and are planning too, I have one suggestion:forget the book. The movie has a higher entertainment value. When Arnie gets his revenge on the host of the show, you will feel like laughing and standing up and cheering. Jesse Ventura's appearance is absolutely hilarious and has an extremely high 'I don't blame for being angry one bit' factor. When you see the movie you will understand what I mean. Maria Conchita Alonso's character is also extremely likable. And Arnie is surprisingly fantastic.

Summary: Running Man Review
Review: Efficient action movie vehicle for Schwarzenegger, starring as a framed convicted killer who becomes one of the contestants in sick television game show. He's pursued across a devastated Los Angeles in the year 2019 by trained hitmen. Stephen King's novel with its echoes of The Most Dangerous Game, provides an effective framework for Arnie's tough-guy act, and director Glaser expertly orchestrates the state-of-the-art special effects, nasty violence and unpleasant humor. All I've forgotten is the Girl. All movies like this need a Girl, whose function is to be pulled helplessly behind the hero as he attempts his escape. By casting Maria Conchita Alonso in the role, the filmmakers got more than they bargained for; she remains one of Hollywood's undaunted high spirits, a nice comic counterfoil for Schwarzenegger. The movie's problem is that all of the action scenes are versions of the same scenario. TV host Dawson introduces a killer and his trademark weapons (electical shock, fire, chain saws, etc.) and then Schwarzenegger faces him in battle. The one element in the movie that is not standard and that does have some energy is the TV show itself, with Dawson's performance as the egotistical, sleaze-bag host. Playing a character who always seems three-quarters drunk, Dawson chain-smokes his way through backstage planning sessions and then pops up in front of the cameras as a cauldron of false jollity. Working the audience, milking the laughs and the tears, he is not really much different than most genuine game show hosts - and that's the movie's private joke.

Review: This movie looked like it fell out of a cereal box it was that tacky and dreadful. I am a Schwarzenegger fan and I have to say I was very disappointed in 'The Running Man'. The plot is surprisingly dull and unimiginative for a futuristic action flick and the adaption from S. King's original book is appallingly dissimilar. If you've seen the great Arnie action movies: Predator, The Terminator and T2 and Total Recall then expect a big drop in quality from these to 'The Running Man'. Only for a very rainy day, 1 star.

Summary: Starsky Directs Schwarzenegger
Review: Solid Ahnuld vehicle works best when it's satirizing TV game/"reality" shows, thanks to the (then) perfect casting of Richard Dawson, adequate in the shoot-em-up sequences. Steven DeSouza's one liners aren't quite up to the ones in the magnificent "Commando", but I enjoyed it.

Summary: GOod adventure, but not a faithful adaptation...
Review: The only good adaptations from a Stephen King book were, in my opinio: "Carrie", "Pet Cematery", "Act Pupil" and "The Green Mile". The rest, including this one, didn't work. But for someone who had not read the book, it's a good "future" adventure.

Review: Well there aint much to say about this film, except that its one of the best ever action films made. One of my fave films ever, prob along with total recall and the terminators. They certainly dont make em like this anymore....... heheh i sound like such an old git
