Summary: entertaining
Review: LXG isn't exactly like the comic book, but that's understandable. The comic book version is a game where readers try to spot hundreds of literary references. Many viewers couldn't grasp the far smaller number of literary references in the movie. A straight adaptation of the comic would have been even more confusing for those not "in the know". LXG has been called a bad comic book adaptation, but it isn't like other comic book movies. Comic book movies are adapted from comics. LXG is based on characters that were adapted into a comic book. The makers of the movie didn't just adapt the comic, but went back to the original books in some cases. Quatermain, for instance, isn't exactly like he is in the comic, but Moore's Quatermain wasn't like Haggard's creation. The movie version of Quatermain is closer to the literary character of Haggard. Connery's Quatermain is fantastic. Some say the film isn't as good as the comic, but the comic isn't as good as the books it's based on. Is Alan Moore the next H.G. Wells? No way. Moore's work can't be compared to the works it is based on. It has to be accepted for what it is. The same is true of the movie. The movie is an old-fashioned adventure, but the comic book is more about shoe-horning in hundreds of literary references than anything else. I liked the comic, but I enjoyed the movie too.

Review: Terrible movie when compared to the actually quite good comic. The idea is a fun one, and could have been done well, but unfortunately ends up dull and irritating. The Venice scenes alone are enough to ruin the movie- stick to the comics or better comic movies like Spiderman, Hellboy, X-Men, and so forth.

Review: LXG takes place in a world not unlike the Wold Newton Universe (look it up), but those who have given this movie bad reviews seem to be clueless of that. They say the the Fantom seems fake, but that's just the point. He seems like an evil dime novel character that's come to life. He's supposed to. The over-the-top moments are intentional. They say Mina can't go out in sunlight, but according to the novel she is based on she can. The makers of this film should be commended. They say it's a mistake for Mina to use a compact, but that's not a valid criticism either. She could use it to do what she does. More good thinking by the writers. They say the plot and action are "bad" because they seem like something from an old comic-strip, but that's the point. LXG, to give just one explanation, is like Classics Illustrated merged with the other comics of it's day. It's very Golden Age of comics in tone. They say that many of the scenes in this film are un-real, but that's on purpose. It's meant to be fanciful and over the top. LXG is in an un-real world. It's a world of fanciful inventions, characters, and cliches. Look up Wold Newton Universe on the net. This is a world where pop culture icons are placed in the same world. Now imagine various versions of that theme. Get it? LXG takes place in another world were fanciful fiction is truth. It's an impossible world filled with impossible things. Those "mistakes" in the movie aren't mistakes, but some just won't bother to understand. Read about the Wold Newton Universe and then read, read, read. Imagine. Dream. Let your mind put together a world where all those impossible things exist. That's the world of LXG.

Summary: cheesy, but I loved it
Review: LXG is good fun. I'm not sure that the critics on here have enjoyed the books this is based on. Twain had Tom Sawyer operating aircraft as a boy. Are the same reviewers that are complaining about the car scene in LXG going to put down Twain? Why does it work in Twain, but not in LXG? The critics won't say. Do they even know who Twain is? It's not clear. The reviews saying the CGI effects are poor miss the point too. It's true they are cheesy at times, but there are decades of great movies with cheesy effects. Look at anything with these characters in it. Some of the movies featuring these characters have had good effects for the time, but now the effects look cheesy. Some of those movies had cheesy effects when they were made. Saturday Matinee flicks were often cheesy even by the standards of their times. Cheesy effects can actually make it more fun, but these days everything has to look "real". That's why reality tv is so popular. I prefer great old books and movies. Take a look at LXG if you "get" cheesy effects, these great characters, and older fantastic films.

Review: Just because this is a "popcorn movie", it doesn't mean it has to be retarded. The Mr. Hyde fight at the end was probably the most unconvincing use of CG I've ever seen! Totally unbelievable.

Summary: Sorry Guys...
Review: This movie was a BIG letdown. I begged my parents to let me see it. I thought it was going to be one of those awesome can-I-please-watch-it-again movies. Nuh uh. I dunno, it just was cheesey in some places and just flat out dumb. Not to mention unrealistic. I know its a fantasy story but come on! There's no way Tom Sawyer, having never seen a car in his life, could just get in and cruise Venice, saving the world like he's a pro! It just didn't seem right. The Fantom was not a good villain, he looked and sounded fake and made you want to laugh. It was waaaayy too long (and that's saying something, since I'm a Lord of the Rings fan) and the dialog stunk. I feel sorry for Sean Connery. He's an awesome actor, but I don't know what he was thinking, agreeing to this!

Summary: watchable hokum
Review: I'm giving LXG four stars, but I'm making it clear that it's just watchable escapism. Older films with these characters should all give you an idea of what to expect from LXG. This ain't rocket science. It's an old fashioned saturday matinee styled flick. It's hokey fun and charming, but that's all. Don't expect it to change your life. It's just a hokey movie, but I like those. Good cast, fun effects, great characters, decent action. Not great art, but good fun.

Review: The special effects and the fight scenes were good,but the storyline and the acting was awful.This is also the worse movie I have seen Sean Connery in.He was good in The Hunt for Red October and James Bond.Even some of the characters sank the movie and that's just the beginning.Sean Connery is a very good actor and he is the best to play James Bond,but please give a good script next time.

Summary: books! who cares about books?
Review: Making a movie based on books was a dumb idea. The Matrix makes more sense because it's based on computers and everybody knows computers not books. The FX were OK and I liked the vampire and Mr Hyde so the movie get 2 and a half stars but next time these movie people need to make modern stuff.
